Favorite reaction strike retrieves or odd-ball retrieves that produce
There are two reaction retrieves that seem to work for me. 1) When cranking a chatterbait, spinnerbait, lipless crank, or buzzbait letting it "flutter" for a second by the target will sometimes result in hard strikes. Big fish and non-aggressive fish seem to like this and will key in at times. 2) When fishing a jig, any of the above mentioned baits, or even a popper as I come past the target I will actually burn the bait a little back towards my boat. This will entice aggressive fish to strike in an attempt to not to allow the bait to get away. I always share my secrets because I wanna see everyone catch fish, but #2 is deadly when flipping a laydown tree or bush. Flip the jig or plastic into the tree and when you work it back up to the surface don't ever just lift the bait out of the water back to the boat. ALWAYS swim it back. Many times fish will key in on the bait and not commit but as they see the bait attempting to swim away they will ambush it by not allowing it to get away. Bass will never pass up an easy meal.

Z man soft plastic issues
I had bought some zman crawdadz at Bass pro. I left a brand new bag in my boat storage while I was staying at my camp for a week. Went to get one three days later and noticed they melted away into a liquid. I'll stick to Rage Craw, Gene Larew, and Biospawn.....

When Nature calls
I usually just go off the side of the boat if the urge arises. Holding urine is one of the worst things you can do for your heart. My Dad had a Dr tell him if he had to stop in a wide spot on the side of the road to do so and if that police ever said a word he would get him out of it. If anyone is up close and personal nearby and I cannot wait I simply turn my back to them. As far as the other.. if it’s just me I go to shore, hit up a porta john, bath house, or the woods with bio degratable wipes. Thank goodness “it” has never hit me during a tournament yet. I think it’s just because we’re mentally in tune to that we don’t think about it. I have gotten quite embarrassed on a couple of occasions though. I took a leak once beside my truck and trailer one evening. There were several cars parked nearby but all had been parked there all day so I assumed the coast was clear. Soon as I pulled around towards the ramp a car started up and drove by. A woman and her teenage daughter drove by. I was mortified. There was no way I didn’t give them a show by mistake. Another time I was the only person at the ramp. No cars anywhere in site and the gravel road was silent. I decided to take a quick leak when this girl around 20 came walking by on her horse. She had her phone out and was in plain view before I saw her there. She glanced right as I tried to turn the other way. She ignored me and I ignored her. From that point on I have been very careful about when and where I go around my vehicle and such in public. Off topic but funny story. One local lake has a single out house with no doors near the ramp. One for men and one for women. My buddy had to go once before launching his boat by himself one summer day around 5am. A turkey hen came marching in there while he was sitting in the pitch dark. Scared the living you know what out of him until he realized what it was.

Triton 179 trx
Anyone purchased this boat with the 115 Pro XS Command Thrust this year? What are your thoughts on it? Must say I thought the 179 stood for 17’9” but I was fooled. It’s an 18’6” boat with a 91 inch beam. The 18 trx, 18 tx, and the Nitro z18 is only 2 inches longer and 3 inches wider. The 179 runs about $5,000 cheaper than the 18 trx and $7,000 under the 18 tx too. For someone with a good size boat but doesn’t need a huge motor the 179 trx looks like a steal.

V- Wake a spinnerbait
Isn’t that the same thing as just burning it below the surface?

Dark Sleeper
I saw Edwin Evers talking this bait up on the Bass Pros a couple of weeks ago. He was hopping it along the bottom.

Ranger Z175 or Nitro Z18
I've been looking at the Ranger z518 vs a Nitro z18 myself. My biggest difference is this Ranger - High Quality - basic electronics - no power poles - basic trolling motor - 150 Pro XS Nitro - Lower Quality - upgrade electronics - power poles - Ultrex with IP - 175 Pro XS I can get both for roughly the same price give or take a couple thousand... My biggest questions is do I want the quality and settle for basic necessities or go Nitro and load it out.....It's a tough decision.....

Spinnerbait trailers
I throw a trailer probably 95% of the time..

Frogs on mh rods
Try a copolymer like P-Line..

Ranger z185 or Triton 18 trx
The z518 has the new comanche console and a lot more cosmetic details as opposed to the z185. It also has a step and lock box in between the two bench seats as opposed to it being a bare bench which nothing there. The z518 has fenders added on the trailer too where the z185 does not.

Top water.......choices, choices
Personally I approach Top Water Fishing based on how aggressive the fish are being. I ask myself Do they want something moving fast, moving medium, or moving slow? Fast = A buzzbait Medium = A Walking Bait Slow = A popper This only applies to open water topwater fishing. I consider frog fishing over grass a little different. I throw all three past my intended target of cover and let all three die to near the cover before resuming the retrieve.

Why pick the Rage Chunk over Rage Craw?
When Jacob Wheeler uses a chunk trailer he always feeds a worm or something on the bare hook shank of the jig down to the chunk. It keeps the chunk from moving and adds a little bulk under the skirt.

Spinner bait size recommendation?
I fish a 3/8 most of the time because I usually fish a Spinnerbait in shallow water up to 10ft. I can burn it high or slow roll it depending on how the bass want it. Sometimes I will downside to a small 1/4 oz with smaller blades if I want to match the hatch, but that’s rare. On average, the 3/8 with a big swimbait trailer catches bigger fish.

What setups are you pitching 3/4 ounce jigs with?
7’4 Heavy/Fast Carbonlight 2.0 Rod with Lew’s Super Duty 8.3:1 Reel and either 20lb Flouro or 65lb Braid depending on the situation.
