Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
Lol I have tried that. The problem is, is that in most ponds, the weed growth is extraordinary. Any type of treble hooked lure will immediately get caught in the weeds.

Cork Or Eva Foam Grips
Lol neither. I love to use carboncone grips. The only rod that I know of that has these grips is the Okuma C3-40x. The grip only gets better when they are wet.

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
I personally have no preference on the tail style. It is all up to you. But for riggin flukes, you should use a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook with or without weights. I like weights because it makes sure that the fluke always stays upright.

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
4-5inch flukes, in pearl white like ABW mentioned. Are you sure that this pond is full of smallmouth bass? Because in a weedy, shallow pond, it is essentially nearly impossible for smallmouth bass to survive. (unless he restocks them everywhere). Also, once the water starts getting warmer, bring out the topwaters. I love topwaters in ponds because they usually never get weeded up. Good options would be charteuse buzzbaits and dark green frogs. Good luck and show us some of the pictures of the fish you have caught in there.

Sick Fish..
I have a pack of these, haven't fished them yet. They look like they should either be rigged with a 5/0 EWG or treble hooks line through.

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
I have a pond that has almost the same conditions except that it is stocked with largemouth. Pretty much, the only way to catch fish is to use a t rig weightless worm. It is too weedy for crankbaits and for some reason, even jig heads get weeded up. I live in jersey, so the water is pretty cold as of now. I would estimate 40 degrees or so. I have been using flukes with great success. You just have to use a EWG hook, and slowly drag, swim, or hop the fluke. I promise you, when the t rig worms don't work, the flukes should.

Big Soft Plastics : Best Time Of Year ?
When the bass start bedding. Also, the summer is also a pretty good time.

How's This Fair?
LOL... I don't give any money to the state. I'm barely under 16, so I still don't have to buy my license or trout stamps.

River Monsters
The majority of the time he throws live bait. But I have also seen him throw some EXTREMLY old style rapala jerkbaits. He also mainly uses spinning reels and round baitcasting reels.

How's This Fair?
Ummmm.... but New Jersey's trout stocking isn't smart at all. They end up stocking tiny ponds that reach 80 degrees in water temperature during the summer. Check the New Jersey Trout Stocking Locations. Even though they no that the trout have no chance of surviving beyond spring, they still do it just for the people who "keep and eat" all the stocked trout in the first month. If New Jersey actually did some quality research in stocking trout, then I wouldn't be knocking their program. But the fact that they stock tiny ponds where the water depth is 10ft max and the water temp. reaches 80 degrees just isn't right.

How's This Fair?
LOL I have a lake here in Central NJ that is pretty much the same as you're talking about. It's called Lake Manaplan and the state stocks trout in it too. When you think about it, stocking trout in small lakes and ponds is a extremely boneheaded idea. The majority of the time, the trout get caught within the first week of stocking, and the state ends up wasting thousands of dollars. Also, this negatively effects the fishing as the people who keep the trout usually also inadvertednly end up keeping the bass.

Spool Tension Knob
Well after testing my reel extensively, I think I have found the answer to my questions. When turning on the Centrifugual braking to 4, and throwing a 3/8 ounce jig, the spool tension really doesn't matter. I get no backlash even if I turn the spool tension all the way down. I will continue experimenting with the baitcaster and see how other brake settings affect the backlashes and casting distance.

Fishing A Jig Without A Weedguard Is Rough....
The jig that I was fishing with never came with a weedguard. With the majority of my jigs I usually just trim a tiny bit.

Fishing A Jig Without A Weedguard Is Rough....
I decided to try a weedguard-less jig today. And lets just say it wasn't pretty. I was fishing in pretty clear water, and it seemed as if every cast, I had to stop and remove all the gunk and weeds from my hook. I would want to fish a jig without a bulky weedguard, but the current weedguard-less jigs seem as if they are only good for fishing extremely clear and weedless waters. Anybody else also experience this?

Spool Tension Knob
So for my reel, I have found that I have to set the spool tension on near maximum in order for the line to slowly drop. My friend told me that setting the spool tension high actually slowly weakens the gears. Is there any truth to the fact that setting spool tension high is a negative for a baitcasting reel?

Which Is More Important
It all depends on the application. For motion baits like cranks and traps, I would want a better reel. But likewise, on jigs and senisitivy baits, I would want a good, sensitive rod.
