So just today, I tried to go ice fishing with my friend at a pond next to his house. We brought shovels, pickaxes, and still couldn't cut through the 4-5 inches of ice. Are there any ways to cut through the ice without buying a auger?

20 LB Braid with a fluoro leader. Fishing around heavier cover, you want a line that has more abrasision resistance which is why most people use a fluorocarbon leader.

Since I am looking to get into Fluke Fishing, I want to know everybody's opinion on fishing different types of flukes. Do you prefer paddle tail styles ( Yum Houdini Shad) or split tail styles (Zoom Super Fluke)? Also, what size do you like them in? And what type of colors do you prefer? Natural colors, like silver, or colors that stand out such as firetiger?

I agree with Fisher-O-Men and Red Earth. You should be able to keep fish, but please don't keep the bigger fish. That lessens the chance of catching a trophy catch in the future, and also causes the sunfish population to start exploding.
