  1. After spray painting the seams they don't look near as good. Oh well. Now I know. Those will be the first in the takle box I suppose. Going to paint it first then apply decals on the next one to see if they look good. May have to get a cheap airbrush.
  2. Still need to paint the seams, add eyes and epoxy. Going to rattle can paint and hopefully won't screw it up. I used decal paper and it was pretty easy. So far I like the look of them. Will look better once I add epoxy. Never painted a lure. Hope to catch a few on on these.
  3. I was a lego "investor" for a while. Made enough money to buy a boat only using storage space and luck on which sets would appreciate. I still have enough sets put back for an upgraded boat but am holding off for now. My wife and I also have a LEGO winter village that we add to every year. It's addicting.
  4. Welcome. I'm originally from Bloomfield and transplanted to OH. Fished Wappapello in May and caught a few a well as some small creeks. Definitely miss that area.
  5. Backed mine up thos weekend for the second time solo. I was all over the place and had to straigten it up plenty. Had a nice audience too but nobody waiting in line. Unloading was okay. The wind and wake kept pushing boat back on the trailer. Backing up without the boat sucked. I think i'm going to add a guide post on my trailer. You'll get used to it. I didn't care so much what people thought. Good luck!
  6. First ever and the year. 2.25lbs on a SK bitsy tube in watermelon chartreuse.
  7. I just started fishing again after about 10 years off. I picked up a vortex spinning combo at gander mtn. Set me back $55. I can throw 1/16oz lures a long way with ease. I love it and recommend it to others.
  8. Welcome. I live in Miamisburg so I fish the same areas most likely. I just got back into it this year too.
  9. There may be a sticky for this so I aplogize if there is. As someone who also started fresh this year it would be awesome to have a guide that shows all the popular baits and the recommended hook size and type. I would keep hook brands out as everyone has their preference. Something like: 5" Stick bait (senko/yum dinger) - 3/0-4/0 EWG Super Fluke - 4/0 EWG Finesse worm - you get the point My sizes are just examples and I know everyone's preference is different. That might be why there isn't something like this already. Just seeing if anyone knows of a post that has all this info. Thanks
  10. Use a BPS hook guard if you want to go weedless.
  11. Here's my beast. Big enough for me and goes as fast as I want to go. Storage sucks though. 15 1/2ft 1989 Sea Nymph with a 25hp. Huge livewell which is wasted since I don't keep fish. Need to turn it into storage. My first boat and a great starter.
  12. I use the $5 off coupons as my "free shipping" i get them in my LTB or you can google it an find the code.
  13. I went out this morning with a goal. I wanted to catch my first smallmouth bass. I headed out to Twin Creek and found a spot that looked good. My first cast and the smallie in the pic below was ready and waiting. I caught her on a BPS bitsy tube in watermelon/chartruese. She came in at 1.91lbs. Of course the next cast I lost the tube and like a dummy I didn't bring that color with me. I tried other things and nothing else worked. I ended up finding some BPS double dipped tubes in green pumpkin red flake. I caught another 1lb smallie and some rock bass. I had a blast and only fished in one spot. I look forward to walking the bank and pulling in aome more, and bigger, smallies..
  14. I have been using the 1/16 (i think) in green pumpkin. The zman brand. I have the 1/6 oz but it is too heavy. I got mine from bass pro and it was the lightest and heaviest weights available that I chose. The lighter the better after using them for a while. It has been THE confidence bait for me since getting back into fishing.
  15. Unfotunately with some recent expenses needed after taking the boat out for the first time, I will be returning the lowrance. Hopefully I will upgrade someday.
  16. Finally got my boat out. This is the first time I have ever taken a boat out and I was solo. Backing up sucked. I found out a couple things. The battery I thought needed replaced needs replaced. I had to move the motor over to the trolling motor. Running on one battery sucked so I didn't get to enjoy fishing out of fear of running the battery down. I backlashed one reel and didn't catch anything while on the boat. I also found that the boat runs much better when the trolling motor is up when at speed... Like I said, this is my first ever boat. I did fish off the bank and caught this little guy and a dink off the ned rig. I will hopefully get used to the boat and enjoy fishing out of it.
  17. Likely tubes would be your best bet.
  18. I was ready to take the boat on it's maiden voyage today only to find the lake shut down for boat races. I will be out next Saturday and will try tubes along with everything else I have been buying. Going to be a great weekend next weekend.
  19. I got mine last weekend. Now I need to find the time to install it. I am installing it at the helm since I want something bigger at the bow.
  20. 16 bags of roboworms in various colors and sizes for less than $2 each. Guess I will be fishing worms for a while.
  21. Hit up gander mtn and picked up some zman chatterbaits at 20% off and some roboworms an dropshot sinkers. Never tried either so I am adding them to the stack of lures to try. Didn't know the senkos were buy 1 get 1 50% off or I would have stocked up.
  22. I am still learning (again) about all the tackle I have bought over the months. I have been out of the game for 10+ years. Today was a great day to get out and try it all. 77*, sunny, no breeze. A perfect day I threw just about everything I had including cranks, spinners, hula grubs, senkos, fat ikas, flukes, worms, spooks and so on. I only caught one fish in the 3 hours out but had a blast trying everthing out. I was fishing my bankbeater setup which includes a zebco rhino spinning on a 6' gx2 ugly stick with 12lb trilene xt and a diawa minicast40 baitcaster on a 4' 10" bps microglass with some cheap 6lb mono. Both cast far and reel easy so I didn't see a need to upgrade. I ended up catching a 2.25lb largemouth on my favorite rig....the ned rig. Green pumpkin jig head on a junebug zman trd. I gill hooked this one and didn't notice the blood till after the weight and pic were taken. It swam off in a hurry so hopefully it's alright. I can't wait to take my boat out and use my nicer setups. Anyone else fish this lake?
  23. Looks like it is. From the Lowrance site: Highly accurate, built-in GPS antenna plus a detailed U.S. map featuring more than 3,000 lakes and rivers and coastal contours to 1,000 feet.
  24. I have a new to me boat (1989 Sea Nymph) that has yet to see the water. It's my first boat. While it sits in the driveway that dang bait monkey has been whispering in my ear. The boat has two older Eagle brand I think depth/fish finders on the front and at the steering. Both appear to work and both are well past their prime. I don't need to upgrade but I came across a deal and may upgrade 1 now. I am on a tight budget. Field & Stream has a deal on their Lowrance Elite-4 HDI, cover, and Lake Insight all for $199. Seems like a good deal but I was wondering what others thought about the setup. Is the size an issue? Are the features good for the price? Any cons to this setup? Also where which would be the ideal depthfinder to upgrade first (near the steering or in the front?) I appreciate all your help.
  25. Ned Rig. 15" bass and the first bass I have caught in over 10 years. Good to be back.
