  1. That's mostly them there southern boys, winter to them is like fall to us just 5 deg further N lat. Although we're too far south to ice up, winter fishing is cold and slow for the most part. There are exceptions...
  2. Welcome to bass resource! Looking forward to your report tomorrow, and more pics...
  3. IMO confident fishing results from applying proven techniques with proven lures in areas that have the right characteristics (structure, cover) so that the anticipation of catching a fish remains very high from cast to cast. Many times, unsuccessful techniques, presentations, lure selection, or other factors will cause you to loose some of your confidence. That's about the time I change some aspect that renews my confidence, and revives my anticipation of getting bit. Fishing with confidence is a whole different world than those who let unsuccessful periods affect their attitude adversely resulting in giving up. This applies not only to fishing...
  4. I use a MH Veritas 2.0 Frog Rod. IMO a decent rod at a decent price point. Could be a little better, but then $100 doesn't buy you top of the line either.
  5. Welcome TXguy! I cannot really say which the best all around setup would be. I have and use both types (spinning and casting). I'd say casting is more versatile but then some are not able (for whatever reason) to use casting gear effectively and become frustrated enough to give up. Spinning gear is definitely easier to learn on but has its limitations also. Whatever you decide on, I'm sure you'll be catching bass soon and we're looking forward to you sharing your experience
  6. When fly fishing, I use the nail knot all the time to secure my tippet to the fly line but I don't really understand the nail knot to nail knot concept
  7. In my experience, the Walleye takes the crown for weakest. Many times I thought they must have pulled off for some reason, then as my hook nears the boat, the fish is still on there.
  8. Tyler, Welcome to Bass Resource - Enjoy!
  9. president spinning or casting?
  10. IMO, there's no BEST well rounded line for both spinning and casting applications. A lot of my setups have mono-backed braid connected to a hybrid floro nylon leader but I also have a lot of specialized setups
  11. Welcome!! I can second Glenn's statement. He and his crew do an outstanding job of moderating. I don't believe you'll find anyone blasting you for your thoughts or opinions, not for long anyway . You may find that through some tips or advice given on this site, your chances of beating 11 year old you have increased dramatically! Contribute, share, ENJOY!
  12. To my knowledge, the talapia spawn during late May to early June down in the TX lakes. Check local regulations because in TX they are considered an invasive species and you can't keep any unless you rip their gill structure out. You won't have any luck fishing for them with rod and reel, bow fishing is the preferred method.
  13. The OP inquired about the St. Croix panfish series for crappie and panfish. Personally, I feel it doesn't matter much when you are talking about those two species. For bass, the Premier series is a poor indicator of SC performance. I have a Rage (spinning) and 2 Avids, completely satisfied with all 3 although the Rage requires some adjustment for the grip, but I like it now.
  14. What is the difference between the pre 2016 Ci4+ and the new Ci4+? Not being a smart A, it's a legit question. I have read nothing to say the the Ci4+ has changed.
  15. Use braid to YZ all the time...haven't had a problem
  16. The blue Bassmasters Tackle bag does a great job. Not sure how may bags it holds, but I'm pretty sure it's enough for 1 day of fishing. 50 bags may be pushing it but I'm sure the boater you're paired up with will appreciate your effort to consolidate your plastics into 1 small bag.
  17. I've fished for tilapia down in the power generation lakes in TX, and these look very similar to those. Are the tilapia in this lake? BTW - Bow fishing for tilapia is great fun, and highly productive.
  18. I can't remember, I got 1 of here for 160 and there wasn't a mark on it, they can be had if you have patience I bought a Tournament ZX crankbait rod last year. Not that sensitivity is all important in a crankbait rod, next to a Veracity, the stick has no life, nada, none!
  19. Wally Corder had 1 for sale ($150) in the flea market here back on July 8th
  20. And the rest of us will puke. IDK but I'd guess not too many bass fishermen are Pokemon aficionados
  21. Welcome! Don't have any experience fishing the opposite corner of the state. There a a few on here from your neck of the woods, I'm sure they'll chime in sooner or later.
  22. Sweet! but aren't you going to post some size info Wt, length, girth, anything at all? Pictures can be deceiving but it sure looks FAT. Congrats on the new PB
  23. The whole Pokemon BS is ridiculous IMO, but I'm not very tolerant of stupidity BTW - The only reason I clicked on the thread was the OP is part of Raider Nation
  24. Is there anyway to prove it's yours? Do you have serial #, any distinguishing marks, receipts, anything?
