  1. Great Accomplishment. Congrats!!!
  2. That depends on who is asking and since I have no personal relationship with anyone here, I respectfully exercize my constitutional right given to me by the 5th ammendment
  3. Welcome Jordan, enjoy the forums! Looks like you fish some small waters like I do frequently. I've found that casting weightless flukes (slugos as we used to call them) and then swimming them very slowly while giving them a pop or two to make them dart up off the bottom will frequently cause a strike. After that pop, ensure you let that fluke settle to the bottom. Make sure to rig that weedless as it looks like you have a fair amount of moss or vegetation in the lakes. This technique can be effective with flukes, senkos, creatures, etc. Have fun, enjoy!
  4. Wow!! Helluva story, I could not imagine...
  5. Getting bit but skunked?? Seems to me you need some work on the post front hookset j/k there Keep after 'em
  6. Welcome boardusmcer! Retired vet myself, enjoy the forums.
  7. Welcome to the forums! Moving from SW OK to the Edmond area, guess I'll be learning some new waters
  8. Correction!! Now the number is 25290529053
  9. Navionics web app isn't even close to being accurate on the lake I frequent. Can't comment on it about the accuracy for other bodies of water. I would imagine that all depth contours are obtained via sonar but after becoming intimately familiar with the structure on home water, Nav web app is off as much as 20' more in some spots, others seem to be more accurate given water fluctuations.
  10. Now this one looks deformed! Much more than the OPs pic. Evidently it doesn't handicap them too bad because they still manage to evade prey and catch food. Interesting, I can't say I'd throw it in the ice chest, looks like some nuclear experiment gone awry
  11. Nice quality bass there!I have no idea as it's been a loong time since my last smallmouth. Sure looks like a LMB above but in the provided link, looks more like a smallmouth. I'd guess in the 3lb range but could be way off, makes a difference if you're a thick 5'6 or a 6'8" behemoth...
  12. Welcome aboard pondbassin101! Lots of great info on BR, ENJOY!!
  13. Most here in Oklahoma use corn, seems they can't hunt without it. I'd rather hunt somewhere where it's illegal but then it does have a purpose, it concentrates all the hunters who shouldn't be in the woods with a loaded gun. Easier to avoid them that way...
  14. IMO, a heavy action short rod is not ideal to throw anything light as you will find difficulty getting the rod to load properly. Try to stick to heavier baits or use it for flipping into heavy cover. Welcome to the forums!
  15. Haven't had an Ugly in my hands since my catfishing days as an adolescent. I have no idea if the combo will balance well but usually you should decide on your rod, then match the reel to the rod. Proper balance should be placing the stem of the reel between your ring and little finger or your ring and middle finger (whichever you prefer) and then letting go of the grip to see if it balances properly for the position that your index finger rests. Adjust accordingly, rod tip raises, get a lighter reel. Rod tip lowers, get a heavier reel. Some have other methods but I read this in a book many moons ago and it has served me well.
  16. The 145yd - 6lb test is model 6930. It's a great option and so is the 6935. The President is 3x the reel of a Cardinal IMO. I believe it's the best value in a spinning reel...bar none! Even better if you can find it on sale. This spring WM had them on sale for $45.
  17. Suncloud can be had at REI. Have had a couple of pair over the years, decent polarized glasses, fairly cheap price
  18. My son has that same rod, I've fished it a couple of times....he has a hard time prying it from my hands!!
  19. Never been in a boat going 90 to tell you the truth, but then - never wanted to either! I'm never in that big of a hurry on the water...
  20. I'm no expert but for the most part, I have very little luck with topwater in the middle of the day. Very early and late in the day outproduce midday topwater 10 to 1 for me. Also, 20 casts and give up?? Sounds to me like your're fishing the same water, the same way, and expecting different results. Cover some water!! If you are looking to catch those little ones hitting bugs on the surface, fly fish with a little popper or drag a popper behind a float that can be partially filled with water to add some weight for casting. If you're not interested in the panfish, try the topwater bite early and late as stated before.
  21. Which specific model of Rigid box do you have? My wife bought me a bait coffin and I love it but would like something similar but the price is too steep.
  22. Nice! Especially from the bank for that time of day. Must have been up under the top water cover catching some shade?
  23. Ethanol attracts water. Ethanol in any internal combustion system that does not have fuel system that is sealed off from the atmosphere = problems. Modern autos usually have a sealed system, most small engines including most marine engines, are not sealed.
  24. I can't speak for anyone else, but the U.S. made vs. Mexico (or anywhere else) is an economic issue at the very least. Economics aside, Americans like to believe that goods made or manufactured in the U.S. are of better quality than Mexico, or some other third world country. As manufacturing processes and quality tooling along with the raw materials became available globally, many third world countries are now capable of producing quality goods. I for one would rather buy something U.S. made because it provides income for American workers who spend their income on food and other necessities which provide income for U.S. workers in other industries. The whole global economy is rapidly changing, but if we keep buying foreign, we will soon realize that our manufacturing base has eroded and you will no longer have a choice of "American made". Our economy exploded during the industrial revolution largely due to the manufacturing of high quality goods and provided income for U.S. families to purchase housing, autos, electronics, etc. etc. The more jobs that go to foreign workers, the more American cash goes outside the U.S., the more manufacturing that moves outside of our borders - the more America becomes a society of consumers without an industrial base to support our relatively high standard of living. SO WHY DOES IT MATTER EXACTLY? SEE ABOVE
