  1. I think it is relative to the water that a person normally fishes. I would consider anything over 20' to be deep water. The deepest water on my "home" lake is 35' - 40'. In the streams and small rivers that I find my smallmouth bass 8'-10' is considered deep.
  2. I agree with Aint Texan about location. I fish from shore all year, and the places that I catch most of my fish sound exactly like the spot that he just described. When it comes to baits, I believe that I would have to know more about the types of small fish and forage that exist in the area. (size, color, profile, etc.) Though I think Mepps in line spinners would be a great place to start. Welcome aboard!!!
  3. Once again Muddy's crackin' me up ;D Raul is right. It does move side to side as if it is darting around. Almost like no one really knows which way it may go next. I have found it easier to do when wading. I think being closer to the water helps the action. That's why the guys in the boats will be dropping the rod tip when the do it. Keep "just enough" slack in the line to Jerk the little bait from side to side. I will warn you that it takes a lot of practice and not all baits, lines etc. work the same. Just keep trying you'll get the "feel" sooner than you may think. It's a finesse thing.
  4. I can't help but agree with Indiana Kid. They are, pound for pound, the best fighting fish of the two. I love to catch the "smallies".
  5. I think you've got it right LBH. Corn is not well digestable. Take it from an Iowa boy... "you don't buy corn.. you just rent it for a while." ;D ;D
  6. Picking up trash is a thing we as "outdoors men" must always try and do. What I would like to do is catch the litering blankatyblanks in action. Nip it in the bud so to speak. Get this... My fine State of Iowa, a fiew years ago, decided that it would be much more cost effective to put up signs at the entrance of our state parks that say "There are no trash cans provided here... please carry out your own trash" or something like that. "carry in, carry out" I think was the slogan. They thought they could save money by not having to maintain trash cans. Imagine what this brought on. Shortly after this went into effect the amount of trash found in public areas was atrocious. I'm sure the state saved a bit on the budget, but there are just too many people who can't (or WON'T) take care of them selves. It's amazing. Have YOU guys seen legislation like this in your states? When I was young, I can remember getting chewed out for throwing a gum wrapper out of the car window. Believe me, I will never forget the speach I got about that. It has stuck with me and I think we need to teach our kids to have the same respect for the outdoors.
  7. OK Muddy, go ahead and cuss.......... YankeesWin ;D
  8. : Muddy... PLEASE don't swear in the same sentence when you mention Mr. Jeter.... PLEASE
  9. WOW :o I think he got ya there Muddy I'll let the wrestling comment go. 8-)
  10. Phili-WHO??? :
  11. MUDDY, Thanks for starting this "crazy" thread!! I love to talk baseball, but when you mentioned College Wrestling :o Maybe we can start a thread about that later. Being an Iowa boy, I grew up with a mat in my basement and had my first pair of wrestling shoes when I was 5-6. I don't dare step on the mat these days (I'd break something for sure) but I still have a great passion for the sport. OOOHHHH YEAH!! "Let's go Yankees... Let's go Yankees... Let's go Yankees"
  12. "Fishie, Fishie, in the brook... come and bite on (insert your name here)'s hook" My Ma used to bring that one out in the boat when things got a little slow. You might be surprised how many times it seemed to work. She's a saint!!!
  13. Thanx for showing up riskkid!! Becarefull inviting those guys in without a down payment!! We have a team to pay for you know. As for the Bosox.... They will take care of them selves. muddy, I wouldn't mind seeing Detroit get their chance. They deserve respect and Lord knows the whole city could use a boost, but "for me and my house... we will cheer the YANKEES"
  14. I think the Yankees record (especially in the post season) speakes for it self!!
  15. :-[ :-[ :-[ I forgot to say... CONGRATS NICK!!!!!
  16. pinkfloyd, What are you shooting for?? Success is all in the eyes of the beholder you know. We all get frustrated sometimes. Fishing calls for a bit of patience and persistance. Perhaps a helping of both would help. I wonder if your "new found techniques" are being waisted in the wrong water. You need to keep trying your "stuff" 'cause you never know when or where you may come across what your looking for. 3 years isn't a life time... I think most of the guys here will tell you to stick with the basics and move up from there. Too much too fast isn't good either. Good things come to those who wait! (my Dad always said) Your time will come.
  17. Here's where I spend most of my fishing hours, and I don't care if you all know where it is. It sets in a State Park and gets plenty of traffic. What's a few more?? http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=11&Z=15&X=1500&Y=11875&W=1&qs=%7cfayette%7cia%7c
  18. Read this from a week or so ago it might help. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1155061609
  19. LBH, That sounds alot like the waters I fish here in the Mid-West. 3-4 pounders will let you know you've got something to deal with. Any thing after that is just a BLAST!!
  20. My DAD!! He would take the whole family (6 kids and MA too) to a lake "up north". What a bunch of fond memories we all have to this day. When back at home... my older brothers would take me to the local fishing holes just to make sure that I still had the "bug". I thank God that they took the time. Catch fish or not we all learned and had a blast fishin' TOGETHER!!! ;D
  21. Can't say it any better than that. Wind sucks... or no... it Blows thats it!
  22. Take him to Fly Fishing Retailer in Denver, CO. next week!! Maybe he can win something at the show in the casting ponds.
  23. Lately with me I've been having all my luck with anything that rattles. Crank baits, lipless crank baits, top water baits, it doesn't seem to matter as long as it rattles. I really haven't been able to figure out why.
  24. WAY TO GO JOE!!! Welcome to the site.
  25. And that is precisely why the Cubs will never make it to the top. The fan base is just to loyal.
