  1. It doesn't mater to me eva or cork. On split grips just make the grip longer. Loomis can? Powel can? Why cant st Croix or shimano or a host of others cant? This has influenced what rods I buy. Either full grip or on split grips that are longer.
  2. I would look at the loomis 813 spinner bait rod. It is a bit more stout. The 812 I don't believe is rated for more then 3/8 ounce?
  3. I have never fished an Avid. I do own a few ltb,s and and some glx,s and gl3;s. The ltb mh feels closer to a 4 series loomis slightly less power but close.. The 5 series you mentioned would be way more power. Check out the gl3;s I believe best bang for buck in loomis line.
  4. I was invited to fish a private lake this weekend. Very clear catch and release only. Started with a spinnerbait to locate fish. Caught about ten but noticed lite hits, nips ,short strikes and many just followed my bait to shore. Tied on a squarebill. With only about ten casts I snagged three fair sized bass. One in the back, one in the gill and one in the side. I was sick and removed the crank bait at once. I was there to catch fish not kill fish. Over the years I have snagged fish but nothing like this. Are they just bumping it to defend territory . Water was higher then normal?
  5. Might be longer then you wanted but my suggestion is. The Gander mountain advantage pro steelhead 10'6" 2-8lb/ 1/16 to 3/8 oz. Bought mine a couple of years back for about forty dollars. My go to trout rod. Flicks lite lures very well. Has also pulled in many bluegill, crappie, bass and a catfish. It is a lite action rod.
  6. Little jake spoons .The clearer the water the better the hits. Use gold , silver and black. Seems like the fish that hit on these tend to get more airborne then some other lures. They seem to hit on the drop so I make pauses on my retrieve. They are my favorite trout lure now.
  7. Can.t say about the buzzbaits but I own two 3700,s and one 3600,s and they work. Only problem was with a local produced spinner bait . Wire to stiff? Holds all my others great . Had the first about four years now. Maybe not perfect but what is? Very satisfied.
  8. Sorry they. Type faster then brain functions.
  9. Try Mustad w37754r. I use the 1/0 size and weaken the wire weed guard. If a fish picks it up just pull and reel. Hooked through the top of the mouth 90% of the time. I bought these hooks because thy were highly recommended on this website by others and work well.
  10. They are wrong handed ?
  11. Have I missed something? I started fishing left handed baitcasters about thirty years ago with my 251 bantam mag and pistol grip rods. I don't believe I have ever used more then my right hand to cast freshwater. Then again the highest weight I ever use is about one ounce freshwater.
  12. I think I would dry it and use pvc cement [plumbing glue] should hold.
  13. Another fan of McCoy copoly. Only bad thing to say about it that I have to order it.
  14. The tackle store just north of Davidson is it still around
