  1. Me and my friend had that problem and it took over 20 minutes to strieghten everything out. Luckily the bass survived and the lure was retrieved.
  2. Anyone know of a site or (free) download that you can put pictures and video footage together and use your own music for background? (like right from your Itunes library?) Thanks Matt
  3. I think it depends more on what lure you are using than the water clarity. Slow moving baits that the bass follow for a time should be used with a leader, where fast-retrieved baits and topwater should be used without. But the most inportant thing to remember is that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so make sure your leader is tied on right and is high enough test. Just my .02
  4. So true. Usualy several bottle rockets fired at the oncoming offenders takes care of things. But nothing beats steady long-range 1 ounce jighead fire.
  5. Great job! PBs are always lots of fun. A few days ago I caught a 23" (spawned out: 2lbs 8oz) pickerel on a X-rap. They are one of the best jerkbaits I've ever used and nicely priced too.
  6. I saw the Powell Max Casting rod on TW and fell in love with it. I decided instead of getting two cheap rods I would get one nice one. And if I'm going to get such a nice rod, I got to get a good reel for it, right? (one of the baitmonky's oldest tricks) So I'm looking at a Pflueger Summit to put on it. Anyone used the Powell rods? The whole grip thing looks soooo sweet, and I want a reel without a forgrip. I'm looking at a 6'8" Med-Hvy. I know there are plenty of Summit fans out there, so whats y'alls opinoin? Thanks in advance Matt
  7. 1. Go to the moon. (Thats got to be awsome, looking at the moon from earth and being able to say, "Been there, done that." LOL) 2. Catch the NJ State Record LMB 3. Catch a 26"+ Pickerel 4. 5lb LMB on the flyrod 5. 20lb+ Peacock bass 6. Grizzly bear hunt 7. Elk hunt 8. Skydiving 9. Beat sean_e_bus_21 and my sister's boyfriend in wrestling. 10. Water Buffalo hunt (I'm not picky on the order, exept I'll make sure the Water Buffalo hunt comes last becuase I'll probaly die )
  8. Great fish! 3 for 27lbs! If fishchris doesnt inspire me to move to Cali then I dont know what will, lol.

Yeah it was 95* here today and the bite was really slow. Hopfuly it will cool down a little later this week, becuase next week I start working and I wont have as many care free hours. :-/ I rather have it above 100 than below 40 though. Just be glad it isnt winter and there isnt 4ft a snow to shovel.
  10. OOOHH DENIED! Yup, Dad kicked our butts pretty good huh? I hate when that happens! Ronnie Yeah I really ticks me off when he goes on his anual fishing trip, does everything wrong, and catches more bass than me. : ;D
  11. Yup, me and my dad had a great time. You guys already know this: Ronnie is one great guy! It was warm and toasty and the bite was slow but, quote: "Its better to play and lose than to not play at all." I threw the whole kitten kabootle but to no avail. I had some topwater action early and was getting pick ups on a T-rigged lizard in the later mourning but didn't manage to hook any. Once the lake heated up like a oven our pattern was a downward spiral. However, I wasnt the only one who got skunked. Ron's fly-caught panfish dont count. ROFL ;D We got to go again, and this time, we wont go easy on the poor bass. Thanks Aplster! Matt
  12. Turtles are NOT a threat to humans or bass. If you dont know how to handle somthing that can bite your hand off, then dont do it. Check out this 35lb common snapping turtle that me and my friend cought. http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=turtle1.jpg A turtle like this is one of the best things you can have in your pond, period. They will not attack humans or pets in the water, and are only agressive out of the water. Unlike other turtles which sun bask reguraly, snappers only leave the water to feed on somthing dead on the bank or to lay eggs. You will never get bit by a snapper if you just leave them alone. In this case the snapper was tangled in fishing line from a dock and we cut the lines, netted him, brought him to land, weighed him, photographed him, and released him. If you handle them right you are safe as could be, and its alot more fun than bass fishing. They have laws about mindless turtle shooting for a reason. Get your facts right before you go around shooting birdshot.
  13. How are snapping turtles good for bass, if you say they never eat any smaller bass or baitfish? The only way I could see snapping turtles being good for bass is if they ate some of the smaller bass, therefore reducing the overall population and making the remaining bass larger. However, you say they don't do that though... :-? Snapping turtles are the vultures of the underwater world. They feed mainly on dead things. Large snapping turtles (ten times the size of the one you shot) prey on the sickly fish, birds and what not. They prevent these sicknesses from spreading. Snapping turtles with bass is like vultures with deer.
  14. Yikes when i saw the title I thought it was a largemouth and I almost threw up a part of the cheesesteak I had for dinner. Thats a hog just the same though. I'm happy with a LM half that size.
  15. Snapping turtles hardly ever eat bass or even bait fish. They (the small ones) only eat dead things. Once they get 40lb+ then they will prey on small ducks. Baitfish/bass are too fast for them to catch. Snapping turtles are good for the bass population, and for the intire pond itself. Killing them and letting them rot is not only wastleful, but it is bad for the inviroment.

  17. Well I'm back off to training camp so I guess I'll miss it. All the best to BR and Glenn!
  18. Looks like we will reach it tonight! I think the closest guess award will go to Squid!
  19. Just 7 minutes later..... 13
  20. Quote from NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife website: "New Jersey State records are determined by weight alone. There are no line classes." Go big or go home.
  21. My work requires a week of training so I'll be away intill saterday. I dont know what I'll do without fishing for a whole 7 days. The worst part is that, against my will, I might miss out on the 10,000 member mark. Dont catch anything too big intill I get back Matt
  22. Er, dontcha mean 296? No one hits 400 yd drives. Nope. It really was 396. A real missle. How'd I miss that? Yikes, it would take me three bad shots to hit it that far! It would take me three shots and half-a-dozen mulligans! ;D
