  1. Ok the first thing I going to say is this: Berkley Powerbait is simply and without doubt one of the best fishing lures in existance. That being said, This afternoon I cought 18lbs of bass in only a couple hours, inculding my new personal best! I got to the lake and 2nd cast I cought a 2.5lber on a 10" Powerworm Texas-rigged with a 1/8 egg sinker. Not a bad start at all. Next cast I get a hit but miss him, and 15 minutes later I got another 2lberish on but he spit the hook. After about a hour I switch to a 6" Powerbait Lizzard in Black/blue on the same rig. Im walking along the bank, minding my own self when I see this fallen tree that is surrounded with panfish. I walk out onto it and there are panfish everywhere, hundreds of them. Every couple minutes I'd see panfish running for their lives and alot of surface action. I had high hopes because It looked like I found where the fish where. I cast out along the log I'm standing on and the instant my lure hits the water a 2.5lber hits it. A few cast later in the same spot and I got a missed hit, then next cast cought 1lber. I started casting around for a few minutes then came back to that spot and cought another 2.5lber. I'm pumped becuase I havn't done this well in a very long time. I cast along the other side of the log. My lure sinks, I give a twitch, hop and a jump and let it sit. As I'm watching my line I see the slightist twich, so I wait a instant and set the hook. I feel dead weight, then my drag starts screeming. I had my drag set tight and I almost fell off the narrow log. I think to myself "Sweet, another nice one." She surfaced and I saw that she was a hawg. I almost pooped myself. Well, it didnt take long for her to run under a bunch of branches about 10ft from where I was on the log. I started praying my 20lb powerpro would hold. After a half minute I got her out and she started running for deep water. This was the first time I've ever had a bass pull out alot of line with a well set drag. She ran about 10 yards then I brought her back, and she went right under the log again. I was surprised my line didnt snap. After a minute or so, I got her out again. She headed for the bank but she was worn out. She jumped, then gave up. I reeled her in and with shaky knees pulled her out. I got my scale out and she went 5 7/8 (5.875) lbs and 22 inches. Over a half pound heavier than my previus PB. Video of release: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=58488133.pbr Now that aint a monster bass in most parts of the world, but in this neck of the woods it is a real sow. And the ironic thing is, this is the exact spot on the bank where I lost my swimbait rod the other week. I guess that makes me even with myself. : I stopped home becuase I had to tighten somthing on my reel and made this post, but I'm going out again intill dark. I'll let you know if my succsess continues. BTW I whistled the whole way home. Matt
  2. Yeah bottled water is crazy expensive. I heard once that it was more expensive than gas or oil. Besides, tap water isn't all filtered out so you build a amune system. When I drink out of lakes people think I'm going to grow a extra arm, but during the winter time I get hardly any colds while everyone else in my family is sick.
  3. Yo that is some crazy stuff. I just died at question 19 for the last time lol. I'll have to try again tomorrow. PS I cant get number 12.... It seems inpossible so I just skip it. Anyone else have this problem?

Wave has two stick baits. The Tiki Stick and the Bam Boo Stick. I've used the Tiki Stick alot and just recently got a pack of the Bam Boo version. They work great, you'll be glad you bought them.
  5. I've heard that there is a time in the early summer where bass feed on dragonflies alot. I'd try a dragonfly-looking fly on the fly rod and see what happens.
  6. Cant go wrong with a 7" Powerworm in Red Shad or Melon/Chart. If you want to use a lizard then try Manns Hardnose 6" in any color. Its the best lizard out there that I've used.
  7. Thats a keeper! Oh yeah, nice fish too.
  8. I'll have to try them. I'm also a powerbait fan and I want to try out "shaky heading" Yet another thing for the Bait Monky's long list....

The exact same thing happend to me today, exept it was using soft plastics alot and was fishing from the bank. When people ask how it went I say "The fishing was bad, the catching was bad and the weather was bad. But I got one hit, and I wouldn't have if I was sitting at home drinking coffee."
  10. I'd get four 100 packs of Berkly Powerworms in Red Shad, Melon/Chart, Black and Watermelon. 400 Powerworms will last quite a while. If you use 4 each trip (thats alot) it will last you 100 trips. (thats alot!)
  11. I do one sit up each day. 8-) I get out of bed in the mournig. Thats half. I lay down in bed at night. Thats the other half.
  12. I tried fishing but it was too darn cold, so I spent the rainy afternoon surfing ***.com and I came acrossed these: http://www.***.com/descpageCANPLASTUB-CPTT.html I think they look great. Check out the Rainbow Trout color. (looks like baby bass to me ) I messured the tube's length in the picture and its exactly 7 inches, so that picture gives you their acual size. I've done well with 4" tubes and with the "bigger bait bigger fish" thoery in mind I dont see why these wouldn't work well also. I bet if you fished them T-rigged weightless they would really produce. I'm going to order some ASAP. Any idea what size hook to use? Anyone else ever fished this bait? Whats everyone's thoughts on this? Tight lines Matt
  13. Fenwick Eagle GT. Great rod for the price IMHO.
  14. I ordered a pack of these from *** in chartruse and they are sweet! They are much thinker than the normal Tiki Stick. They fall a little faster and have a better side-to-side and throb action. Also the thinkness helps them last longer. I cought two bass and had some others on this bait today, while my friend was fishing different colored Tiki Sticks with no hits at all. The faster fall lets you cover more water in less time, and I'm pretty sure the added thickness helps thin out the dinks. I was fishing them T-rigged and the action was better than any senko style bait I've used. (Including GYCB Senko and BPS Stik-O) If you like the "senko" style baits you should check these out.
  15. I spooled with plenty of line tension. I don't think that has anything to do with it.
  16. Check out Mattlures. www.mattlures.com They have some killer stuff, and you can throw the baby bass on a MH rod.
  17. My Okuma Stingson 40 holds 190 yards of 10lb Trilene. (Im %100 sure) Yesterday I filled it up with 20lb PowerPro, and my spool was completely full at 150 yards. 20lb Power Pro is suposed to be 6lb dia. in mono. But how come my spool holds 320 yards of 6lb Trilene and only 150 of "6lb dia" PowerPro? :-? It seems to me that PowerPro has their facts screwed up. If you do the math 20lb PowerPro is the same diamater of 12lb Trilene! Theres a mighty big difference between 6lb diamater and 12lb. Anyone else notice this?
  18. I never use a leader for bass and havn't had my line snapped in ages. The key is to have a good knot, good line, and a well set drag. If you have these three right you can land 20lb fish on 6lb test line. Leaders are not needed unless you are fishing for pickerel too. I use a double loop clinch knot (with 7 twists) for mono line and it has never, never failed me. For braid I use a double loop Uni knot. For mono I use 8 or 10lb Trilene XL and I highly recomend it. So far this year it hasn't snapped at all, not even once. For braid I use 20lb PowerPro. Set your drag to 1/3 of your lines pound test, keep your line in good condition, and your lure flying days will be over! Tight lines Matt
  19. They usualy just kill them and dont eat them. That is not right IMHO. Shooting carp (or any fish) and eating them is another matter.
  20. Snapping turtle gets my vote.
  21. Normal hooks always worked fine for me. I dont like red ones becuase their paint comes off and they rust. JMHO
  22. Wait a sec, I just thought of somthing. Exxon: Sells no gas, lowers prices Other Gas Co.: Sells tons of gas, lowers prices to stay in compition with exxon. If Exxon sells no gas, so there is no compition. Thus there is no need to lower prices to stay in compition with Exxon! So its more like this: Exxon: Sells no gas, closes down Other Gas Co.: Sells tons of gas, raises prices like crazy because they have control of the market Just a theory... Matt
  23. MH can toss a Baby Bass easily, my Medium can. I havn't tried but you can probaly cast a Bluegill on the MH too. As for selection, the Baby Bass seems to be the best selling mattlures, so I would go with that.
  24. Watermelon, black and junebug are my faverites. Out of all the "senko" style baits, the Gary Senko and Wave Tiki Stick are my faverite. Check out this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1178990861/20#20
