South Jersey Bass Fishing
No tourney this weekend so I hit a local pond mid Saturday morning after a front passed through. I only fished for 3 hrs because of the strong wind. Had three hits, all on a 5"wacky Senkos. One was a solid near 5lb chain pickerel and 3+lb largie.

My brother has been killing them on Union Lake. Live golden shiner is his go to bait.

Zoom Lures
Love the brush hogs. They make a great variety of plastics.

Favorite bass crankbait!
Redeye lipless and the Rapala DT's, mostly 4,6, and 10. I always have a few rods rigged ready to go, no matter what time of year.

View on Rapala DT Series Crankbaits?
Love the DT 4 and 6. I use them frequently. The breaking lip is my only complaint. I probably went through a half dozen in the past few years although I do fish them around wood/ lay downs so the bill does get abused a bit. Overall its one of my favorite crankbait series.

Jig fishing in ponds?
You do get way more bites on a smaller profile jig that's why I don't use them. I'm looking for the better fish.

Jigs will work everywhere. Heck it doesn't even matter how you fish them!!! Key is to STICK with it. I use 3/8-1/2 oz usually with a chunk trailer. A 7'6" broomstick with 50lb braid works for those killer hooksets.- Manasquan Reservoir, NJ

You are going to be limited in what you can use. All the bodies of water you mention are shallow and getting really weedy/grassy...Newton is the best for quality bass but it gets pounded regularly by club tournaments. Hammonton use to be good way back. Septic overflow from surrounding houses caused major issues.....the lake was drained and cleaned up. The existing bass population is weak, lots of small fish. Oak has small bass, same thing with Maple which I fished for many years. Buzzbaits and other topwater lures early morning can be very good for catching bigger fish. Throw it when its choppy too. Chatterbaits and lipless cranks are really productive when the bite is on. Soft plastics rule here in South Jersey during Summer months when most bodies of water are grassing up. A wacky or texas rigged Senko is a great choice. The Dropshot is also productive. Make sure you try Bargaintown Lake in Egg Harbor Township(Atlantic County). Its loaded with stumps/wood. Plenty of big bass for you. Wacky rig Senkos!!!!!!- South Jersey Bass Fishing

The club had pretty good results at Assunpink. Only 8 teams participated on a foggy, wet morning. This was a 6 fish limit, 15" minimum. Winner had 3 for 9+lbs. Top 3 had 9+. We finished 3rd. I caught all four of my teams fish. Power fishing a wacky Senko with an 1/8 oz weight. All fish hit on the drop. I was focused on getting as many casts as possible. Swim jigs and shakey heads were also used by teams. I will post full results and pics when I get them.- South Jersey Bass Fishing
Hit the Pink this morning. Very tough bite. Caught one keeper on a wacky rig Senko. Had a handful of shorts and one pickerel. Hopefully tomorrow's SJ Hawg Hunters club tourney goes a little better.- South Jersey Bass Fishing
Hit Rainbow yesterday. Had poor results, mostly small non-keeper bass on a wacky rig. Today I hit Cedarville. Bite was slow but I had four small keeper bass on the wacky rig. Lost a 3lber on a jump. No biggie, it happens. About an hour later I hooked into a slob, about ten feet from shore. This thing took a wild jump about 6 feet from me and of course shot the hook out. Would have been my best at this lake. An easy 6-7lb largie. I battled on. Got another big strike on the wacky rig, This time it was a solid channel cat 5-6lbs. I also caught a handful of yellow perch and pickerel.- South Jersey Bass Fishing
Hit Cedarville this morning. Caught some pickerel, yellow perch and 14 largies. Many of the bass went in the 1 1/2 -2lb range. They all fought hard and most jumped out of the water. Lost a solid fish on a jump. A 5" wacky rigged Senko was the producer. I worked the jig hard around pads and wood but could not get a bite. No action on topwater either.- South Jersey Bass Fishing
Took the day off and decided to fish Rainbow this morning around 6:30AM. It was tough finding fish at first. Nothing on beds. Finally locked in on an area full of lilly pads. A wacky rigged 5" senko was all I needed. Pulled out 8 largies and probably had another half dozen strikes without a hookup. Best at 3lbs. Most in the 2-2 1/2lb range.- Big Girl at the New Honey Hole
Nice catch!!!!!!!- How often do you spin vs baitcast?
I would say 60/40 with casting being numero uno. I use spinning gear for soft plastics, mainly Senkos and other brand worms/lizards. Jerkbaits are also used on spinning setup. All other hard and moving baits go on my casting gear. - Jig fishing in ponds?
