  1. Couple years ago, I was at a shopping mall near here and saw a teenager with the baggy pants half way hanging off his arse trip and fall into one of his friends. It was funny, but what was even funnier was his friend also had low slung pants and his pants fell down to his ankles when the other guy fell into him. One face planted into the floor and bloodied his nose and the other guy landed kind of on top of him. A lot of people chuckled and kept walking, but I had to stop and sit down because I was laughing so hard and loud it was almost embarrassing... almost. The kids got ticked because I was laughing at them but I didn't care... Still brings a smile to my face every time I see a kid with his pants like that.
  2. The Federal hydroshock is great in 45. I really like Speer Gold Dot 230gr HP. Hard to find but it's a nasty round.
  3. I love my glock19 and compete with it in IDPA. It's easy and cheap to change out the connector and springs to light up and smooth out the trigger. A lot cheaper than buying an aftermarket kit. The Glock19 is the do it all pistol. Can't go wrong.
  4. I'm fairly new to bass fishing and I bank fish a lot of retention ponds around the Indy area and was wondering what strategies, baits, and techniques you guys use. The problem I face is that none of these ponds have any cover, no grass, usually have V-shaped bottoms, and are open to the sun with very little shade. The ponds have some good fish but they can be tough to figure out since I can't really use a strategy most fisherman use on larger lakes to predict fish location. I've had hit and miss luck with crank baits, spinner baits, and Texas rigged soft plastics. No luck at all with jigs. Planning to try drop shot and or Carolina rig next.
  5. Early April this year, Patoka Lake, Indiana. Froze our butts off and caught 2 undersize fish in the last hour of the tournament as co-angler. The boater got skunked, but we had a great time anyway.
  6. I've done 2 tournaments with the club I recently joined with the 3rd one coming up next weekend. As a co-angler I always think of myself as a guest and try to help with whatever I can and promote the team mentality. In our club, we have a set amount of money that the co-angler pays the boat owner (to help cover gas/oil, ramp fees, etc...) and I always try to pay him right away so he never feels like he needs to ask for it. Also, I don't want to be one of those co-anglers that just looks out for himself and only uses the boater for his boat & equipment. I want boat owners to be happy when they draw my name for co-angler.
  7. How many different species have you caught while fishing for bass? I caught these two almost back to back a couple days ago. They had high hopes to say the least! I thought it was ironic to catch a bluegill on a bluegill crank bait...
  8. +1 for the KVD 1.5 and Shad Raps I like the KVD 1.5 a little better
  9. Bluegill patterns seem to work best around here. I've been killing them on KVD 1.5 in Bluegill and Rapala shallow diver in bluegill for the past week or two.
  10. I fish the Swing Impact Fat quite a bit and love it. I've had my best luck (bank fishing) with using screw lock hook weightless. Swims very natural and swims downward when it sinks. Every effective bait. Bass around here love the Bluegill Flash color.
  11. I just started using a bait caster a couple months ago. I chose a Lews Laser MG speed spool About $80 and very good for the money. Easy to use and adjust. I've had a few back lashes but nothing I couldn't undo and continue on. Can't say for sure I wouldn't have done as well with another brand, but the Lews Laser MG is a good one.
  12. I have a Lew's Laser MG speed spool (my first bait caster) and love it. Great choice for a first BC I also have an Abu Garcia that was around the same price and it's nice, but not as smooth as the Lew's
  13. Waters around me are usually stained/murky for the most part so I go w/o a leader.
  14. I've watched a couple videos about it. Looks incredible! Will definitely get down there this summer
  15. I bank fish a lot and one big no no is wearing bright clothing. Bass can see the shore line and can get spooked and move off if you really stand out, so leave the hunter orange at home when fishing. Also, tread lightly when approaching the bank. Bass can detect vibration and heavy foot falls near the water especially if they are shallow and near the edges - like now Often, I will make my first few casts about 10 feet away from shore. Works
  16. I'm a big fan of Cold Steel Knives. This is a good bang for the buck... http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/80PGTK/G_I_TANTO_W_SECURE-EX_SHEATH.aspx
  17. Very instructive. I noticed a lot of his faster reeling was just getting the bait back to the boat after it leaves the strike zone so he can cast it again.
  18. I joined Johnson County Christian Bass Masters this year and have been to 1 meeting and fished 2 tournaments. Great group of guys and you don't have to have your own boat. Very well organized and you can win a little money. $25/year to join and they have a tournament every 2-4 weeks from April to September in different lake every time, then have a classic and an invitational in October.
  19. about a 1.5lb Caught it on a greenpumpkin power bait worm. I had watched a youtube video the day before on how to Texas rig, got the right hooks and bait, and after 4-5 casts BAM!... caught my first LMB. memorable moment to say the least
  20. Hello everyone! I'm from Fishers, IN and have been bass fishing for about a year now. I've been fishing since I was a kid, but not focused on any particular species, just what ever would bite a worm on a hook. I don't have a boat so I have to bank fish. Even bank fishing, I have had a great amount of success. 4.5lb is my best so far. Learning about all the different lures and techniques is great and I've absorbed a good amount of info over the past year. Recently I joined a club in my area (Johnson County Christian Bass Masters) and have fished 2 tournaments as a co-angler so far. It's great to be on here and I'm looking forward to digging through the discussion boards and increasing my knowledge and skills.
