How to pick out a braided line HELP!!!!!!
I again agree with dodgeguy. I have 40# Sufix on everything. Love everything about it. Also, you will find that baitcasting with braid is MUCH easier than with mono.

Welcome. Your knowledge will grow exponentially.

Oh yeah WELCOME by the way. By the looks of that avatar, you are my kinda guy. "in a strictly heterosexual kind of way of course"

Walking the dog....
Agreed, a hollow body frog is not the easiest to walk the dog with. Most topwater lures whether hard plastic or wood can be "walked" even if they are poppers. It's all about cadence, slack line, and reel/line management. Try a Spook, Skitter walk, whatever Lucky Craft's offering is, and see if you don't do better.

Setting the drag part II
Agree with all of the above posts. I would never use a mathematical formula or a percentage of failure to set a drag. Do it by feel and use what feels right. As far as your drag "slipping" off of it's setting. This is common for my Daiwa reels. The procaster does not have ratchet indents to set by. My Japanese Capricorn, and my TD SOL both slip frequently. It's just something that you will have to adapt to while fishing. I must add that my relatively new Quantum Energy PT stays locked on my drag setting perfectly. The indents are solid, and there is a lot of room between indents. Good luck, and have FUN catching fish, not worrying about your drag.

Daiwa Zillion or Shimano 51MG
Congrats on the reel. You must have found a new job quickly. If youd a read the thread youd know where its coming from, you and fourbizzle need to get off my back all you guys do is spam threads I make and/or reply to trying to act like you know just so much about me when you know not a thing, for the last time grow up.. go learn how to fish or something and stop instigating with me. Sometimes a person has to deal with the consequences of being less than truthfull. In my estimation you have gotten off easy on these boards, and are continuing along unabated as if nothing has happened. I will continue to gently remind readers of your posts, that you are less than honest. As far as learning how to fish is concerned... You are right, I don't have nearly the accumen that you do when it comes to speaking intelligently about various lure manufacturers, model numbers, material specifics etc. I don't quote company add copy when talking about lures either. What I DO, however, is share dozens of pictures of bass with the members when I have a reason or opportunity to post one.

casting a rat l trap
Although I agree with everyone else's estimation that it doesn't really matter, if you are using baitcast equipment, you can practice feathering the spool right before lure contact to vary your entry greatly.

I need line help....
RW touts the hell out of that line, so give it a shot. As far as braid, if you used spiderwire as your only foray into braided lines, you chose the appropriate place for it........the TRASH CAN. If you can pick up just one more spool, try Sufix for your baitcasters.

I need line help....
How long ago did you try braid? Braided line has come a long way in the last couple of years.
-
what type of Braid??
I have sufix 40# on everything I own. Doesn't dig in as much as others, holds it's color fairly well, sounds less like a tow truck winch cable, and has virtually eliminated backlashes. I've used them all and will remain faithful to sufix.

Nice fish AGAIN. As AVID stated, great photos too.

What is up with BASS?
Why does BASS get blamed for what ESPN airs? Charlie Moore sells his taped shows to ESPN, Jerry McKinnis sell his old reel to reels to ESPN and BASS gets blamed. Since when does a kid aspiring to be a pro fishermen hurt anything. False hope??? Thats a stretch, thats like saying POP WARNER football gives kids false hope to become a pro football player, less than a percent will ever play pro. Lots of people doomed the ELITE series before it got off the ground, and what we saw this year was some good fishing, records being broken, and go back and look at past tournament threads on here, and see just how many guys started FLW threads during the tourneys. I believe BASS dominated all threads, and should be given credit for lots of other topics. Ish's Tora Tora tubes. Swim baits on tour. Every time BASS aired, numerous topic arose from BASS event and hardly any FLW topic came from the other "guys". Actions speak louder than words, and BASS is still our topic of choice over FLW. Whats up with BASS? I'd say they still got everyones attention. I'd say that most are reading the magazine, other wise, how do you base your decision that the magazine is a rag today if you haven't looked at one or two to base your opinions on. Someone must be getting the Magazines for you to look at to base it on. Thats just funny, either you read it and spoke up, or you spoke up and don't have a clue. Matt. Another good post MATTFLY. However the Pop Warner Football statement is a very poor analogy. I don't know of any kid who became obsessed with professional sports by playing little league as a youngster. What draws inner city kids to believe that they can become pro basketball players? Rap Music, and flashy, media savvy players who tout the enormous amounts of money they earn. Professional bass fishing is slowly doing the same for caucasion suburban kids. Do you really believe that the large number of kids that post on this site about how to become sponsored or believe that they will turn pro obtained this obsession from fishing a few times a week? Or did they get it from the pyrotechnics at the televised weigh-ins, the fast boats with the flashy wraps, and the shirts emblazoned with sponsor adds? It's simple, and easy to see from a sociological standpoint.....Mike Iaconelli is to white country kids, what Allen Iverson is to black city kids.

LH or RH?
Similiar to paparock.... I am one of very few I'm sure to have never used a spinning reel. If I tried to left hand retrieve a baitcaster I'd probably fall down.

BEST REELS
I'm gonna have to go with deuce on this one. I've always been a Daiwa guy, but couldn't help myself and bought a technicolor dreamcoat energy pt two months ago or so. It is by far my favorite reel. Not quite sure why Quantum isn't more popular.

Squeel-R
Thats a strange website. It's descriptions and phrasing seem like they are from the far east........"but we have found the best way to catch the biggest fish..use slow retrieves or fast retrieves." But apparently it's a father son team from Ohio and the lures are manufactured here. Doesn't sound like USA add copy to me.

hard to post this here
You know I am not a fan of your previous postings. However, I would not wish anyone to be in your situation and I hope all comes out o.k. Please think before you make any rash decisions. I don't think moving "sight unseen" to another state with your family is a good idea, unless you have SOLID pre-existing jobs and housing waiting for you. Also, do you think working in a bait and tackle shop is the route to go with a wife and kid? Go to snag a job .com enter your abilities and qualifications. It's free and potential employers contact YOU. You don't have to keep checking back. You are 23 or something right? You need to do some serious thinking and planning for the future. Take these guy's advice. Advance your education=advance your earning power. Working in a tackle shop as a profession will not cut it.

What is up with BASS?
Good post mattfly. I think there are too many aspects of BASS for everyone to be on the same page as far as a thread goes. The tour, The pros, the federation, the magazine, the website, the T.V. shows, the sponsors. I don't tourney fish, nor do I belong to any local clubs, so I can't speak to the BFL, FLW, or ABA. The magazine and membership benefits sucked in 91 and they suck now. Unless you are a teenager or pre-teen, I'm not sure what demographic the television shows are aimed at. MUDDY was right when he posted about the WWE. There is a suspicious WWE aspect sneaking into the BASS associated shows. It won't be long before the pyrotechnics are bigger, and the angler in the hot seat delivers a fake slap-blow to the upper chest of whoever takes his weight. Then a crowd of pro anglers can gather on either side and pretend to hold the two combatants back. Then the weigh in microphone can be stolen by an angler with a low weight and he can use his best cookie monster inspired voice and "call out" the winner for the next tournament. I for one think the only thing that BASS has done is give a false sense of hope to thousands of kids who think they are going to be pro anglers. Just browse the "resume" section of this board for a few minutes... pathetic.

What is up with BASS?
Bassmaster was as full of useless information in 1991 as it is today.

What is up with BASS?
I quit BASS in the 90's, didn't like it then. Besides the conservation and minor lobbying issues, with websites like this available, there should be no reason for anyone to feel the need to subscribe to Bassmaster. I think some anglers seek a membership simply for it's association with "pro" anglers and tournaments. And a cool sticker and two patches to make you feel like a pro.

Frog recommendation
I have stuck with the old school Snag Proof Original Casting Frog over the years. Hook-up ratio is not very good, the legs are stiff and hardly move at all, and the very light weight makes it difficult to cast with b/c gear in the wind, but I have caught many fish on them. After reading my review I'm not sure why I use them!

Will people ever learn ???
I can't really believe this, but I think we may have another one folks. Above you state your digital Camera took a crap because it got wet. Yesterday you said that your sister took your digitial camera to college. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1161307454 Another one what? I bought a chepo at the mall for like 60.00 to take on a trip with my uncle and it got wet from the rain of all things! The wifes camera is the one that to go on a field trip to Penn State! LOL I think I'm pretty much Cut-Off with the family's cameras. Ya know what? I just read through this post.. Why are you guys so apt to judge every one? Are you insecure or was you abused as a child, whats the problem? I'm not sure either, but if you are interested in talking about fishing to a good christian man than I'm right here but if all your gonna do is cause trouble and bellyache over a few words then GO GET A LIFE! I like to expose liars, it's a hobby of mine. I also like to discuss fishing. Whether or not it is with a "good christian man" is of no consequence to me. As someone stated in an earlier thread.."all we have is our credibility on a message board." You are pretty bad at getting your stories straight. IN THE SAME QUOTE/POST mind you. In the quote box you say it's a 300.00 digital that got wet. In your reply you say it's a 60.00 cheapo that got wet. I think you may be pulling some legs around here.
