  1. i love 1/8oz rattle traps for crappie. also small crank baits. they tear em up.
  2. Does anybody throw grubs anymore....ha ha ha. ;D I'm definitely going to order some Fat Ika's, and have tons of Senkos already. Anything else? Also RW, is spinning tackle just a preference for you or does it seem to make a difference when it comes to fishing these baits? Also, with the Ika, what is your preference for moving the bait? Lifting, dragging, etc? Thanks for all the help. Jason

  4. Hey guys, i'll be heading to Colorado the 16th of next month for my first try at smallies. Wife and i going to visit friends and my buddy and i are going to sneak away. He doesn't fish for smallmouth, so i turn to you guys for help. I want to try throwing some grubs, as i never have before. What kind of jighead and size are you using on 3" and 4" grubs? We'll be fishing from the bank at a reservoir that he says has 3' visibility. Also, from the bank, what other types of baits do you guys suggest? Thanks for all your help. Jason
  5. Awesome man, congragts!! 8-) I'll be heading to Colorado next month to go for my first smallie. Jason
  6. Hit the pond at sun-up again this morning. Topwater bite was nowhere to be found. So i switched straight to soft plastics. Caught this 1 lb'er on a Watermelon Seed Super Fluke 1lb-11oz on a 5" Black/Blue YUM Dinger Ended up with 2 more dinks on the Fluke, and lost 2 more 1lb'ers at the bank in the weeds. Also caught 2 nice crappie on a small rattle trap. Jason
  7. I always try to throw a number of different baits each time i go. If i'm just going for a short outing, i'll take my small bag with a couple small boxes of lures. Each time, i will take something different than i took the time before. I feel it helps keep me well rounded in all aspects. If i'm in the boat, and have my big tackle bag with all my tackle, i'll throw many different types of baits, just because i like to catch bass on different things. Jason
  8. you're going to want to get right into the heaviest cover you can find, or go deep, along ledges and creek channels. Sometimes though, it seems no matter what you do, you just can't get a bite. We all deal with it. Jason
  9. nice lookin bass! awesome 8-) Jason
  10. From one Husker to another....Great Bass!!! What lake did you go to? Jason
  11. Congrats!! I became a first time daddy about 3 1/2 months ago. Greatest thing to ever happen in my life!! Jason
  12. usually happens on poor hooksets, but that doesn't mean it won't happen on good hooksets. It's basically the bass getting the right amount of leverage to send your bait back to you. Best bet is to keep tension at all times, and as you feel the bass coming to the surface, lower your rod tip down and keep the tension. This will many times help to keep them from jumping in the first place. Good luck. Jason
  13. I agree. I use 4/0 Superline EWG Gamakatsu hooks. Great action, easy hooksets. Killer. Jason
  14. i absolutely love the Red Eye Shad. I use it as a search bait, and it works awesome!! I love to burn them across the top of grass growing up from the bottom. I also throw them along side brush piles, although i don't recommend unless you like losing a few...ha ha. ;D Jason
  15. WOW!! That's just absolutely awesome!! Congrats and get em next week! Jason
  16. you bet it is! main stay in many anglers tackle boxes. Jason
  17. Hit the farm pond at sunup yesterday morning, as i knew it was suppose to get hot in the middle of the day. Didn't have my truck to haul the boat so i just hit the bank. Got there at 5:30am, and first fish hooked up at 5:45. 1lb on a Bluegill pattern Rapala Skitter Walk Next was a dink on a Rebel Pop-R Caught 1 more dink on the Pop-R, 1 on a Rapala Original Floater twitched just under the surface like a jerkbait, and 1 on a Watermelon Super Fluke. Was a day of dinks, but seeing as how i hadn't been out for 2 weeks, it was nice to have something tugging back at me on the end of my line. Was 75 when i got there and 90 when i left at 10am. Jason
  18. i always T-rig with a weight if i want to fish the bottom. I also rig them weightless and use them like a top water snake. I don't see why a guy couldn't use one on a jighead also though. Jason
  19. WELCOME!!! I would agree that alot of the bites you were feeling are probably small fish like bluegills, etc. Just stick with it, you'll get em sooner or later. Jason
