  1. Thanks meeting up sounds great. The cr721c looks like a really nice option. I wish it was 25% off like the rest of the models! Going to keep my eyes peeled for a sale or used option. I am starting to find a few other rods that are moderate fast that have my desired lure range. Having never fished a mod fast I am curious, but concerned they won’t be great for light jigs but probably excel for treble lures.
  2. Yeah, they are mostly topwaters. I really enjoy throwing topwaters for river smallmouth. Some of them are pretty heavy like the heddon one knocker, sammy 115, and a 1/2 oz. spinner bait with a trailer. I have had better success with the larger topwaters. Now that I look, none of them are 1oz. So I may have stated that wrong in the original post. My concern was “casting off” some of the heavier lures as I have done that in my earlier days using a baitcaster.
  3. I am not sure it is that tall of an order. My 1/4–3/4oz rod is really close, but doesn’t load up on the ned or small paddle tails on a 1/16oz jig head. I am thinking the Okuma rods may work, but not sure if the action is too slow. I can still throw the light stuff but am not accurate. I am being more picky than anything
  4. I don’t want to carry around the extra tip while wading. Forgot to mention the rod has to be 7’1” or less due to my storage situation. I am fine with multi piece rods. I just saw that Okuma has a few rods rated 1/8–3/4oz that are moderate fast. Think I would prefer fast or extra fast though.
  5. Is there any casting rods that are ~$150 or less that will load with a ned rig on 1/16th oz jig head and still be able to handle a 3/4oz or even 1 oz lure? I know of a couple more expensive rods that have a 1/8–1oz lure rating, but the best I see for budget options is 1/4–3/4oz. Looking for a rod that I can take to the river and throw almost all of my lures. I currently do this pretty well with a medium rod, but it doesn’t load well with ned rigs, grubs, and small paddle tails. I am not crazy about bringing two rods when wading.
  6. Is there an active $5 off coupon at TW?
  7. Oh man you could have saved ~$120.00 if you waited until tomorrow. I think that is when their July 4th sale starts.
  8. I cancelled my 30lb braid order haha. Think I am going to try 20lb.
  9. This is kind of related – I read once that the bull shad was so “unrefined” looking because it attracts more fish that way. Something about the rough finished made the prey seem more susceptible. Maybe it is the same with other lures.
  10. I am going to try 30lb instead.
  11. Thanks guys. I have always read that smaller diameter braid causes issues with bait casters. Is that a thing of the past or only applicable to cheap reels without tight tolerances?
  12. I always get hung up on fishing line questions. Did some research, but I see answers all over the place so I am probably over thinking it. Is there any disadvantage to using 50lb braid (12lb mono equivalent) on a casting reel that is used for a variety of applications? (Lures from 1/8–1oz.) Will this line be overkill with finesse jigs and grubs that weigh around 1/4oz. including a trailer? What if I adjust the leader per application? I bought a Tatula SV and 50lb braid and am having second thoughts with whether I bought the wrong line size. My thought was braid equivalent to 12lb mono diameter would be manageable, but I picked this reel for more finesse applications. Thanks!
  13. Curious how long it took them to cash your checks? It has been ~25 days and counting for me.
  14. I waded the Upper Potomac for about three hours this morning. It took me awhile to find a decent spot. Ended up catching two smallmouth and missed two fish. I am not sure how I missed either fish, but wonder if the hook I was using was not sharp enough. Caught the two on a ned trd and missed two on a paddle tail.
  15. Anyone happen to know how the Potomac (upper or lower) looks after the recent heavy rains? The gauges seem pretty low, but was wondering about the color. Trying to decide where to fish this weekend. Thanks!
  16. I received the offer too. I think it was a one day only customer appreciation sale. I debated whether to pick up a baitcaster combo but decided to pass. To me the spinning reel looks like a Daiwa Crossfire. At least thats what was pictured on their website.
  17. Anyone know which Daiwa reels come on these?
  18. What is the difference between the JDM Bantam and the US model?
  19. It’ not shady they are a real company. Here is a tackletour review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewarkrodssnp70mxc.html I have never used one myself.
  20. Do you know where to see this info in the iOS app? I don’t recall ever seeing eBay bucks advertised on it. Edit: never mind. Just saw that you have to enroll
  21. You can get a 6’ 2 piece Daiwa Procyon mf for around $40. I have one that I keep in my car. I actually like it a lot.
  22. Haha, I don’t mind catching them on lures. It beats raw chicken livers or stink-bait.
  23. These are my last two fish. I somehow never caught catfish in moving lures until fishing the lower Potomac.
  24. I bought a few different kinds of chatterbaits during TW’s Memorial Day sale and received them yesterday. Went out this evening after work for an hour or so excited to use them. Thought I had a pig on, but instead I had my first blue catfish haha. Still fun.
  25. What shape of jig head do you guys prefer?
