  1. Welcome from Chapel Hill. Eddie
  2. Welcome! Nothing wrong with Crappie and Bluegill. Bluegills are scrappy fighters and fun to fish. I was born at Ft. Monroe. Lived in Yorktown until the family moved back "home" - mountains here in NC. Eddie

  6. When Roadwarrior posted his 20,000th post I went to check and see what my count was. Noticed I nearing a 1,000 on posts and 1,000 days as well. Thought it might be interesting to hit the 1,000 mark simultaneously for both. So here we are. Hard to believe I have been on this site now for 1,000 days - almost 3 years. Love this site and am on here often most days. I have learned so much that I can't begin to describe - just wish it would stick and could remember when on the water. The knowledge that is shared and everyone's willingness to help is just amazing - and we have a lot of fun. Have made and met a lot friends through bassresource.com and look forward to meeting more. Hope to get to wet a hook with a lot of folks here at some point. Not to mention this site has led me into the addiction of rod building that I love and allows me to share the fishing experience with others - thanks Flechero, Alpster and Reel Mech. My thanks to Glenn and all the mods for making this the best fishing web site on the 'net! Amazing job they do keeping all of us in line AND still keep the site useful. Well, better get busy, at my current rate will take me 52 years to catch up to RoadWarrior. Eddie
  7. I fish mainly shore and have had the most luck retrieving slowly with occasional pauses along the shore. Always seem to get hit during the pause or immediately after restarting. Eddie
  8. 'nuff sed...... I'd give him $50 for it - throw away the seat, cut the saucer away, remove the battery and might make a decent trolling motor.
  9. That's pretty amazing. I use to have that same car - LOVED IT - that I would haul my upright bass in. But, that guy wins. Appears to be fastened on pretty good. Do what you gotta do I guess.
  10. Thanks for posting the review. Those new Energys sure do look nice. Thanks, Eddie
  11. THAAAAT is nice! Congratulations. Eddie
  12. If you are looking for a kit - with everything included take a look at these: http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Complete-Rod-Kits/Mud-Hole-Value-Casting-Rod-Kits Blank, guides, cork, etc. all included. I highly recommend, in addition to what flechero and BowTech have said, is that you start relatively inexpensive. Your first, no matter how much time and effort you will put into it, will be far from perfect. Your second will be 10x better. Practice on the first one. Save the GOOD components for the second or third rod. Eddie
  13. Yes. He's the real deal. Just sorry we couldn't get the fish to bite. He's coming back in May, so hopefully they will be biting then. Eddie
  14. Had the privilege of fishing with memo43 yesterday (03-23-09). The odds were stacked against us recent hard rains had the water waay up in the pond and cold, another cold front blowing through and we hit the water late in the afternoon. We threw all kinds of stuff at them, but their jaws were welded shut. Was still a great day for me. Got to hang out with a new friend from BR and enjoy some time on the water. Was fun to talk about fishing, rod building, techniques and his service to our country. My daughter got to meet a real marine who was gracious enough to bring her a real USMC medal. Looking forward for the return visit in May. Hopefully then we can have a better report and some pics of decent fish for everyone. Eddie
  15. That is a nice fish! What lake/water were you on and what did you use? Just curious what is working these days. :-?
  16. Thatis awesome! Congratulations.
  17. To get the good skipping action a fast tip would be best. Spinning is probably the easiest to learn and use being less problematic than a baitcaster. See folks using about 10 lb test or going heavier with braid and fluoro leader of about 18". Definitely want to have at least Medium Heavy power for hook setting and keeping the fish from wrapping around pilings.
  18. Those look good - good job.
  19. No. Now, I am happy with what I have, but, always looking for more. Too many nice upgrades and new "toys" but not enough $$$$.
  20. Those are very nice. Very good mods you are doing on those. I would like to see a bigger picture as well and maybe some detail pics.
  21. Excellent post hawgchaser - very informative. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Take care of yourself. Praying for your safe return. Thank you for your service to our country. Eddie
  23. EJ, they haven't disintegrated yet? ;D LOL - no. they are still hanging in there. When they do fall apart though I am only out $40. They are the Cabela's Salt Strikers. Not a bad deal, IMHO. Given that I am in the surf a dozen times a year though I expect them to last another season or two..... Truthfully though, they have really held up well. With my gear I am pretty gentle and use utmost care. However, when it comes to the surf, I am pretty rough. I am the one you see out there up to my waist/chest heaving out to the breaks - when I am casting only and not casting and watching a bottom rigged pole in a sand spike as well. Needless to say, when I come back after casting in the surf the reels are nasty. Wash them off real well, put a little hot sauce/lube on them and good as new. Highly recommend. I have been using one of the 3000's on a spinning rod and is doing well. Eddie
  24. Those are great. Thanks for your service, God bless and stay safe. Eddie
