  1. Good luck, FrogTog. It's just going to be too nasty to be out tomorrow. Hope you catch a bunch - you deserve it being out in this. Eddie
  2. Very cool. Really liked the video.
  3. Very nice fish.
  4. Great story and GREAT fish. Thanks for taking the time to write that out in detail. Great read. Way to hang in there. I agree, got to take everything in and pay attention to what's going on in the water. Eddie
  5. If it were me, Apple Mac if you are not attached to windows. Dell otherwise.
  6. I use the same setup for jerkbaits as for cranks: moderate action with medium power. Works well for me for treble hook applications.
  7. I do shore/bank fishing and here is what I use a lot. 4 Crankbaits Shallow to Medium Rapala Rattle trap - baby bass (one of my go to baits) Rapala Fat Rap - silver, Perch & Firetiger 4 Spinnerbaits Booyah or Strike King - Shad like color, Black, white, and Chartruese 4 Topwater Zara spook - Black Shiner, baby bass Rapala SKitter Pop - Silver Booyah buzz - white 4 Jerkbaits Rapala x-rap - silver, gold, perch, ghost, Yes, I love Rapala.
  8. Try to match water like other were saying but also the forage. Baby bass Bluegill Shad Chatruese Firetiger
  9. Very cool. That's what makes ponds so much fun. Just never know.... Nice healthy looking fish. Eddie
  10. So how did it go? I hit picking the grass and nasties out of my lures so I would be throwing spinners, rattles, cranks, etc. to keep them off the bottom.
  11. Now there is some perspective - driving rain but the good part is that it was 55 degrees. Of course when the water has been iced over guess 55 feels significantly warmer. Hooked up on 8 total does sound like a pretty good day though. I am like you - just good to be out and on the water. Eddie
  12. Sounds like a good trip. Those are some nice fish.
  13. Sounds like you guys were busy - 43 fish. Very cool 8-).
  14. Good story. Glad you didn't lose that LC! Eddie
  15. See you are in NC, so we are close geography wise. I am in Chapel Hill. I was out on my pond yesterday and it looks like the males are moving up right now - feeding and getting the beds ready. I was catching yesterday on small slow moving cranks and swimbaits around structure and grass in 3 to 4 feet of water. Eddie
  16. Good information provided already, but I read something a while back that made a lot of sense - too me anyway - in regards to the full moon. That was that during a full moon, there is (obviously) more light. So nocturnal creatures get more active as they can see better during this period - leading up to the full moon and after. This leads to more things - insects, birds, rodents, etc. - falling into and going into the water more often. Being that there is more light on the surface, bass and other predatory fish, can make out images quicker and easier and are more likely to attack than just on sound alonse. With more activity on the surface, they go on a feeding frenzy and get use to the heightened activity and feed much more aggressively. Eddie
  17. No. No ipod, music or anything. All I want to hear is nature. Also, if something is hitting the surface behind me, I want to be able to hear it and cast to it. Eddie
  18. yes, those days are very, very frustrating. IMHO, very few things are worse (fishing related) than seeing the fish and can't get it to bite. Just want to reach out there and choke the you-know-what out of it. Hopefully the next outing will be better. Eddie
  19. Anyone familiar with Gold Mine (http://www.goldminecamp.com/) in North East Minnesota? Its on the Vermilion River near Orr, Minnesota. Some guys here at work (North Carolina) are planning a trip there in August. Thinking about going and just curious if anyone is familiar and fished this. Appears to be a good smallie fishery. Just curious about tackle, presentation, applications, etc. Never fished north of Virginia and don't do river fishing. Thanks, Eddie
  20. Was beautiful day in Chapel Hill, NC yesterday. Very light wind, mid-80's, full sun and heading into a full moon. Left work a little early and headed down to the pond when I got home. Wanted to try and throw a new sexy shad had picked up over the weekend at BPS. As I tried to quietly approach the pond, keeping my eyes on the shore, I saw several swirls as I got to the edge so I knew they were up and probably feeding. We have had several nice warm days. Started throwing the sexy shad and was just beginning to think I should swap it out when I got my first hit. Reeled it in and was about a pound and a half. Went to the lures I had brought, which wasn't many, to see what else I could try. Didn't really see anything I liked but tied on a yo-zuri floating minnow and headed to the other side of the pond. As I was walking saw a large swirl at the edge of some weeds. For grins I started pitching, due to the trees and branches, the minnow and slowly twitching it back. Third pitch I got it. Nice 2, maybe 2 1/2 lbr. That one felt nice to me as I love sight fishing. Not much luck on the other side of the pond. As I headed back I stopped at the dock and from the shore started throwing out past it retrieving back along the edge. Knew there had to be some under there and didn't want to step out on the dock. The lure was running to the right so I was casting on the left side letting the lure go under the dock - was fun to play with that. On about the fifth cast I missed one but it really attacked it. Couple more casts and got it that time - or at least one of them at a couple of pounds. Was good to try some different techniques and applications and actually have them work. Didn't catch anything really big, most were on the smallish side, but three fish in less than an hour and a beautiful day to be on the water can't be beat. I am definitely ready for spring now! Eddie
  21. 2x. Another option could use Titebond III. Pull off the piece and/or slop the the glue all over the hole and the piece and put back together. Wipe off the excess then wrap with wax paper and tape up to hold in place. Eddie
  22. IF you want to save some $$$ on the reel, give the Cabela's Salt Striker Metals a look. Hard to beat for $49 to $69. I have three and put them through quite a bit last fall and they are great. Buddy of mine knows a guide down at the coast and all he uses are the Salt Strikers. For the $$$, IMHO, can't be beat. Very tough. Eddie
  23. Exactly. Not to mention that when you are out of the strike zone, the fast retrieve helps get it back faster for the next cast. Eddie
