  1. Glad you are alright. That could have been bad. Eddie
  2. OK, so it wasn't just me. That was pretty bad. Agree, the last few UFC's have not been that good. Silva looked like he was doing just enough, and no more, to get a decision. He said in the interview that Laettes wouldn't challenge him so he couldn't fight. Pfffft. Get in there and go after him! I love TUF and enjoying the start of this season with USA vs. the Brits. Love Bisping and Henderson and think the USA better come ready. The Brits are looking for a fight. But, the rest of the UFC, well.... :-/ I have gotten to where I really enjoy the WEC matches. These guys come prepared to challenge and win. Trying to make a name for themselves and they go all out. Some really good matches and appears to be a little better parity. Eddie
  3. The best match was the first with Cane vs. Cantwell. Wimen vs. Stout was a decent match. Silva vs. Laettes is putting me to sleep. There are some good exchanges but 90% of the match is them bouncing around the ring or Silva staring at Laettes on his back. Most boring main event title match ever. I always DVR these and watch them a couple more times - the good fights anyway - just deleted this one. What a waste.
  4. That is very. very nice! You both should be proud. Eddie
  5. Good thought - but keep in mind there is more to a high end reel than just bearings - bearings are only part of the equation. Mechanically, as previously mentioned, plastic vs. metal parts and also aluminum/metal frames vs. graphite. Tighter tolerances are a key factor in the "smoothness" of the reel as opposed to the "geared feel". The spool, mainly free spin has a lot to do with the quality as well. Specifically, machined/drilled holes to reduce the weight. Then, there is cast control and drag - better components cost more $$$. Can't say it can't be done, but agree with Bass-Brat: A cheap real with hi-quality bearings is still a cheap reel (with good bearings). With that said though, upgrade of components will in almost cases improve performance. But, I just do not think you take a lower end reel and make it the same caliber as that of a top end - ie, Quantum code upgraded to match the performance of the Quantum Tour Edition. Upgrades will make the Code better than what came from the factory but I just can't see it ever matching the TE. High end reels cost as much as they do because there is more to it than just good bearings. Eddie
  6. Good choice going for 7:1. You really can't go wrong with any of your choices. I am partial to Quantum, been using for many years and like. If you don't have to have the latest and greatest you can pick up last year's TE for less than $150 on ebay. Once again though, all good choices. Let us know how it goes. Eddie
  7. That's cool. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Glad I am wasn't the only one looking. Yes, I saw the swirls as well. Was a great tournament. The playoff was great. Was really hoping Perry would win it. Would have been great to see him at the derby in a few weeks wearing a green jacket. Got to go the practice rounds and Par 3 tournament a few years ago. Most amazing thing ever seen. First pro I saw tee off was John Daly. Amazing. On the was down a buddy of mine who had been before told us in the car that he would give each of us a dollar for every weed we found on the course. We looked and didn't find a thing. Anywhere. Most incredible patch of earth I have ever seen. OleBiker, sounds like a great day for you. Recliner, Masters and a baby in the arms. Very happy for you. Eddie
  9. What ernel said..... As long as the resin doesn't freeze it will last a long, long time. I use Flexcoat lite and hi build depending upon the application. Can't compare to anything else as Flexcoat was the first I ever used and have not found a reason to change. I warm it up, and mix in a PacBay mixer for 4 mins. Finish always turns out nice. Eddie
  10. Hey, Chuck that is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Way to make those memories. Eddie
  11. Congratulations to my beloved 'heels! They won with class and dignity. Great win for a bunch of great guys. Another championship for one of the best coaches in the game today!
  12. Yes, and Tyler's 15 flops will put him in fifth place for NCAA flops and move JJ Redick to sixth. If he reaches 28 flops he will tie Bobby Hurley for fourth place behind Chris Laetner, Shane Battier and the leader Greg Paulus. ;D
  13. Is your web site hosted? There might be some frontpage extensions that need to be loaded on the web server. I had a similar problem and turned out that I had to get my host (godaddy) to load a couple of modules to get it to work. Eddie
  14. Congratulations! Good job on the scholarships. That's awesome.
  15. Missed you, man. Glad to hear you are doing well. Only fishing twice this year? You need to go fishing more! Eddie
  16. He recently discovered Metalica and is currently engrossed in studying the drumming techniques (:)of Lars. Much love, Dom. Miss you and hope all is well. Eddie
  17. Like others said, get out of there. Also, don't forget that graphite rods will conduct electricity. Eddie
  18. Thanks, dick. Appreciate that. I still have a lot of work to do on this. Its very much in the beginning stages. But, got interrupted with cleaning some reels....... Going to black out the ends and ramp along with some gold trim bands then finish the whole thing. Then going to finish rounding out the cork grips down to the finish. I am just a firm believer in adding finish to the blank when this procedure is done. Just get concerned with all the sanding and cutting that something has been weakened. That's the beauty of tigerwraps and marbling - gives it a little bling, adds to the structure of the blank and (for me) covers up those stubborn glue spots that I just can't get off. There are some examples on here where folks have done a lot better, IMHO, but I sure do enjoy doing this. Eddie
  19. Yes! Need a good spinning rod to cover some of the light tackle applications. If I had to chose one (6'6" vs. 6) I would go with the 7' - can make shorter casts if needed and longer casts for the search techniques with the 7'. Agree with others - a nice 7' or 7'6" heavy for flipping, pitching, etc. with a fast tip. Could also double for a long swimbait and topwater (buzz, spooks, etc.) rod as well although might get a little tiresome after while. Finally, if it were me, I would have a nice MH moderate action for cranks and rattletraps (my favorite) in a 7' length. Let us know what you come up with. Eddie
  20. Natural and forage matching cranks (and rattletraps) will catch in clear water. I have also caught on lighter and silver colored cranks (only) as well. Have caught most near the surface. Eddie
  21. Sounds good. If you were out in all that rain Saturday, man, you are dedicated. Eddie
  22. Don't know about trying something different - caught five. That's pretty good. . I heard one of the pros talking about fishing in cold water. Don't remember who it was but he said if you think you are fishing lures fast in cold water, you probably are and need to slow it down - then slow it down some more. Point being that you can't go too slow in cold water . Eddie
  23. Agree with dick. One slip - and all it takes is one minor slip especially with a dremel - and the rod will be ruined. I have done this modification and it takes time and going slow. There are several other folks who have done this. Can do a search and see how they did it. Other ways to accomplish, but this is how I have done a couple. Usually start about 1/4" to 1/2" beyond where I want the end to be. This leaves some material to work with for squaring up the ends and provides some room in case messed up. I cut into the cork, around the circumference of the handle, as far as I can with a very sharp razor. I then make other "radial" cuts along the section that will be coming out and score it with lateral cuts. I then start cutting away and "re-cutting" the radial cuts when I reach depth. When near the blank go extra slow. I get as much cork and glue high spots as possible. I then use 320 sandpaper to knock off the high spots in the glue and sand smooth working my up to 600 grit. I put a couple wraps of tape on the blank and use a file and sharp razor to square up the ends. After complete I will finish to protect blank: add some pigment to some finish and coat, marble or thread wrap. Attaching a picture of one I am working on now where marbling. This helps protect the blank and mask any glue that won't come off - the manufacturers use good glue and LOTS of it. At least the ones I have done. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Eddie
  24. Welcome from Chapel Hill. Congratulations on the baby. Eddie
