a good one man watercraft?
I have a one person creekboat.com for the website that i use in ponds and had built a frame like a basshunter has with a folding seat and mounted a cuda242 depthfinder powered by a small 12v battery that works well for me,also got a kayak cart to load it on and i can push it anywhere like a wheel barrel!I have had three canoes and one inflatable pontoon that the wind played havoc on.

Decisions on pond/small lake boat.
It depends on cost, how are you going to carry it,etc.I have had three canoes and that would be my last choice. The bass hunter is around 350.00,i had a gentleman win a creekboat.com at a du banquet and gave it to me i then bought a canoe cart, depthfinder and had a sheet metal man make a seat frame like the bass hunter and put a seat on mine,it is good on ponds with little wind,i would not use it on lakes. If you watch craigslist you can purchased a used jon boat cheaper than the bass hunter and have more room.

pulling a bass boat
I just bought a subaro forester in 5 spd that claims towing 2400 lbs,my boat weighs 790 lbs(xpress sv17)320 for the trailer,189 for the 50 yammie,at most 96 lbs of gas 8lbs per gallon x 12,105 for two 24 group batteries, trolling motor and extras around 1600 and i hope it will pull it.The main concern is not pulling so much on the highway but pulling a boat out a steep ramp on wet surfaces,i'm hoping the allwheel drive will be a benefit for me.You know a toyotas reliability will be much greater then the colorados will? :

Reel Rebates at Cabelas
I just bought a 100 citica from delos for 100.00 free shipped then send in the 30.00 rebate which brings it to 70.00 which will go on a falcon cara on sale from bps for 79.00 in medium action, when i have someone that wants to go fishing but never has! ::)I'll just crank the cast control to keep backlashes to a minimum! ;D

Any G3 opinions?
I have owned three aluminums,a smaller war eagle,a weld-craft,and my current and hopefully last a xpress sv17.I looked at the g3's but thought why would a top company still use wood for the decks and transom instead of aluminum which will not rot.One other boat that is widely overlooked is a alumacraft which makes a excellant boat for the money. If i got the g3 i would make sure the decks were ok before buying it. Ps on the note by someone else in the replys my boat alone weighs 790 lbs, show me another 17' in fiberglass that weighs that? :-?

Opinions on a new vehicle to tow a 1500lb boat
I called my credit union today and asked them a value for our 05 camry with 111,000 miles on it so i know what i am dealing with now.I have searched the highlander by toyota i had one before my fourrunners and on the four cyl i got 26-27 on the highway as a daily driver and with a weight of 4000 lbs it shouldn't be a problem pulling 1500 lbs out of most ramps, there are several in the 06-07 range with less than 30,000 miles on them as we speak.

Opinions on a new vehicle to tow a 1500lb boat
I don't expect that kind of gas milege while towing the boat but i do need a vehicle that will get better than 25 highway miles per gallon as a daily driver with the occational use to tow the boat that is why i am looking at the ford escape, subaru legacy allwheel drive, that size vehicle.

Opinions on a new vehicle to tow a 1500lb boat
Well i will be in the market for a new vehicle very shortly that will be able to tow a 1500 lb xpress bassboat but still get decent(25 mpg at least) on the highway but not smoke tires on a boat ramp trying to pull it out.We are going to sell our 05 camry with 110,00+ miles and i have looked at a few options.I looked at the subaru legacy allwheel drive that claimed 27 highway mpg but the reviews aren't that good,i looked at several small suv's,mazda tribute-cloan ford escape but don't know of there reliability,i like toyotas but the rav 4 is just too small and i had a highlander but it's price has skyrocketed, don't know about the jeep patriot or the other small one they make and it's reliability?I have to have good gas milege though we drive 100 miles plus a day and with gas the way it is this is a must, what do ya'll think? :-/

Another G Loomis post...
I recently went through a similiar decision,i was looking at a falcon expert kistler magnesium and a loomis imx in a 6'6" med-hvy action,i went with the imx even over the glx because it will be used for small plastic worms, jigs and for hopkins spoons in the event i run over some stripers and need to knock them over the head.I had read where the model of kistler were having breakage problems and the falcon i was not familiar with.I did know and have two glx's and felt the imx was a little tougher for hard hooksets using worms.

Stratos 186xt
Olebiker, yea ,i could read his lips cussing about spending 5000+ more and being passed by a mean looking tin boat!!! :
-
Stratos 186xt
On a note about the stratos i outran a 176 with the 70 yamaha on it with my xpress sv17 with a 50 yammie, might be the extra 500 lbs of fiberglass holding it back verses my aluminum hull. ;D

Technique Specific Rods
Let me comment on these "technique series" of rods currently being sold. When i first started using loomis rods years ago when they first came out with glx graphite first used in flyrods(have two)there was no such thing as technique rods,if you knew what you were doing you'd pick the action and power to what bait you used.I believe these rods are made to catch the fisherman not nearly as much as the fish. I have yet and will not buy one of these type rods,i will stick to the norm in actions so long as they are made, now to help a little. In my lineup i rarely use baits over 1/2oz,most are 1/4-3/8 oz spinnerbaits,6' plastic worms,3/8 oz jigs,3/8 oz cranks, the medium action baitcasters i use in imx or glx i use for spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, they have enough balls in the butt section to pull fish from cover but not be too stiff to allow good casting.I try and use a med-hvy action for worms and jigs to help penatrate the hook in a bass' jaw hence the stronger action,i also use it with smaller hopkins spoons for jigging deep structure, the light actions i mostly use when downsizing to inline spinners, small crankbaits and minnow type baits like rapalas or yo-zuri minnows, they are also used for my main small jig bait a blakemore roadrunner, hope this helps. 8-)

Thinking of buying this boat, what do you think?
I agree with jig man, look at the front deck are those batteries just sitting there in no tray and why are they up front,to distribute weight from a stern heavy 70 horse engine on it?With out a prop a lake run is out so you don't know if it leaks, etc.I think 1500 would be more than enough for that boat.

boat and tightness of winch strap?
The boat is a new xpress sv17 on a backtrack trailer with drive on bunks that are carpeted. The side rails as i call them are under water when you back the trailer in so it's hard to see them if you drove the boat onto the trailer. When loaded only a inch or two at the most extends past the back of the bunks and as the boat loosens it slides forward which loosens the winch strap and i have to retighten. The rear of the boat will then be dead even with the back of the bunk.of on the water level notice i am in NC which is drying up!

boat and tightness of winch strap?
I have noticed something that concerns me after i have loaded my boat, when i take out i am still using the trolling motor to guide it on and hooking the strap and winching it on,still leary of driving it on even with a drive on trailer.I pull the bow up to the roller, pull the truck, boat out and get everything ready to leave(put transom saver on,hook both back straps, etc)After going a mile or so i notice the front bow of the boat bouncing in my rearview mirror.I stop get out and the winch strap is a little loose and i can literally lift the front of the boat right off the roller,so i'll winch it tight which i also must go to the back and retighten the back buckle straps and off i go.Is it that i am not driving the boat on the drive-on trailer and letting the bow front strike the front roller?

Jon boat for bass boat conversion?
Blackbass i will give you my take and story on this one.I too looked for a smaller jon to use as a bass boat,i went with a war eagle 1436 with a low front deck and .080 gauge welded aluminum and placed a 15 merc on it.Was good if you stayed lowwww, rocked side to side too much.Sold that one for 3000 less than paid in one year so -3000.00.Bought a weld-craft 1544 bassboat with a yammie 40,boat did not lean near as bad but with the weight of the engine and batteries and gas tank sat down in the back(bad weight dispursement)sold and lost another 3000.00-6000.00 in hole now.Went and bought a xpress sv17 with a 50 yammie 17'56" wide is very stable, open, handles water well, wish i had bought this to begin with and saved the 6000.00 lost in the other two.So where does this go :-?,in my opinion do not buy anything with less than a 48" width bottom so you can comfortably walk around in and not bump into one another and prefer a solid floor, yes it will cost more up front but better than selling like i did and lose each time... 8-)

Life Span of a Trolling Motor
I have a tear in my beer! :'(;D ;D ;D My only comment to this is buy what you want don't settle on price.I looked a 12v motorguide with the older gator mount(like the tours have)and finally found one in mass. The dealer had bought up a bunch before they went to that 360 mount,i'm happy with mine!

what kind of electronics on your boat
I recently bought a new xpress that has a lowrance x51 flush mounted in the dash which only has room for one that size or something like a x68 color but still the small 4" screen,i do wish they would widen the hole size and place a 5" screen if they intend to install indash units, nothing up front as of now. :-/
