What lure caught your biggest bass in 2017 ?
My largest bass for 2017 was caught on a redeye shad, but it was only 14 . . . . . . . . . INCHES (LOL). I don't have much spare time to go fishing these days.

Enormous size differences.
@WRB, I read somewhere that the DVL FLMB were from Lake Hodges. Is that true? I thought that most of the stockings of FLMB in CA came from the FLMB in Upper Otay lake.

Best wood for neutral buoyancy
@RyanDR, A listing of wood densities can be found at https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/wood-density-d_40.html note also that water density changes with temperature, with highest density at 4 deg C. Good Luck with your project.

Caught bass at Castaic Lake in need of identification
@TnRiver46, I have a book "Inland Fishes of California" (2002) that states "Northern largemouth bass were brought into California from Illinois in 1891". The Sacramento Perch is the only member of family Centrarchidae native to California. Everything else (smallmouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, crappie, etc.) was introduced.

Caught bass at Castaic Lake in need of identification
No, we didn't get FLM until 1959, when they were planted in San Diego County. I live in "Northern California" and some lakes have FLM and others just northern LM. The lakes nearest to where I live only have northern LM.

San Diego Area Fishing
One plus about Dixon Lake is a California fishing license is not required: "Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Therefore, anglers are not required to have a California fishing license while fishing at Dixon Lake. However, all anglers 8 years and older must purchase a daily lake fishing permit (Adults - $7.00, Youth ages 8-15 and Seniors 60 and better $5.00). A second rod permit can be purchased for an additional $2.00. Fishing permits are available for purchase at the concession stand near the Ranger Station. You must have a valid fishing permit with you prior to starting to fish. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect and will be enforced by Park Rangers." from https://www.escondido.org/Dixon-Lake-fish-report.aspx

Does anyone make small ball head or shad dart hair jigs?
I've bought larger size non-lead jigs from leadfreejigheads.com. They have smaller size jig heads and list the brand of hook.

Son in Cali. needs advice.
@crypt, I go to San Diego to fish once per year. I have only been to Miramar once, so I don't have any advice about fishing there. However, he should check out the San Diego fishing website sdfish.com. He can signup for a logon id and then check the freshwater reports section. If he doesn't have a boat, he might want to check out Santee Lakes (basically big ponds).

It looks like a lure @Baitmaker created!- Fish ID
Here's a website I found on crucian carp. http://www.crucians.org/html/identification.php- Glenn's Best Interview in the History of the World
What's Facebook?- Going through tackle my dad gave me. I have questions!
I remember seeing adds for the Mann's hardworm and Poe's RC1 so they can't be that old (from my point-of-view LOL). They probably are from the 1980's?- spinner bait vibration/feel
If you drill extra holes in your spinner blade, the vibrations will be different depending on which hole you connect. I'm not sure if it helps any, I've only been doing this the last couple of years (but not all the time).- Going through tackle my dad gave me. I have questions!
6th photo down. Upper right, Mann's hardworm. Left, second from bottom, Poe's RC1. It's always interesting looking at lures people have accumulated. Thanks for sharing.- Going on my first real fishing trip...
