  1. I found this on another website: " After many months of testing, Longas Baits is proud to present their new PDL Rig. This innovative new rig features a 5" swimbait with two smaller 2" swimbaits attached via clear flexible fluorocarbon wires to give the realistic impression of schooling minnows. "
  2. I thought XCalibur was discontinued?

I have a BPS 1982 catalog. It is listed as a "Grass King". The spoon by itself was called a "Timber King". There are also a "Buzz Spoon" (buzzbait with a spoon body), a "Timber Buzz" (in-line counter rotating 2-blades connected to spoon), and a "Timber Spin" (in-line spinner connected to spoon). I was in college at the time so could only afford the "Timber King" ($1.74). The "Grass King" was too expensive a whopping $1.87! How times have changed.
  4. "Are the Bass getting smaller?" Only the ones I catch!
  5. Thanks for the answers. I will try again next weekend with your suggestions (the serious suggestions). I was just trying to follow directions since I've never used a Ned rig.
  6. I bought some ZinkerZs to try the "Ned rig". The January/February Bassmaster stated that Ned stretches the lures and soaks in hot water to remove the salt. So I did that to one and this is what happened (See attached). Did I stretch it too much? Should I have cut it in half first? The other half is still OK. Maybe I was overenthusiastic doing the stretching? What's the best method to remove the salt?
  7. I received a Cabela's catalog in the mail today. They have "Strike King Unpainted Clear Hardbaits" for those who want to paint them. Not sure if any one is interested
  8. Hope your thumb's ok. I got one stuck underneath my right index fingernail when unhooking a fish. Fortunately the fish flopped around and the hole in my finger got big enough to pull the hook out. People probably thought the blood all over my shirt was from the fish! That's the reason I smash down the barbs on the treble hooks on my lures now.
  9. Google Brad's fishing gear. Go to Wigglers and they show a bunch of colors/patterns.
  10. I agree that the spinner blade is the trailer. But, if you feel the need to add a plastic trailer, maybe you can use a HitchHiker. You attach it to the hook bend, then twist the plastic on the coil.
  11. MDRookie, I agree that there's a relationship between body weight and blade size and type. My suggestion is to buy some "quick change" type clevises. You can make your spinner with the "quick change" clevis, then you can take your spinner to the lake with a bunch of different blade types & styles and see what works best for you. Make sure your clevis allows enough space for the blades to spin. You might want to buy a scale so you can determine the weight of the body you create. Also, you might want to record weights and blade size & type for the "store bought" spinners you already have. That might give you some information to start. Good luck.

There doesn't seem to be as much stuff in the San Jose store as one of the other BPS stores I've visited (even the fish in the tank are smaller!). The last time I was there, I walked out with a bunch of candy, no fishing stuff.
  13. I must not buy enough stuff from BPS. I have to pay for my BASSMASTER!
  14. Got my January/February 2017 issue of BASSMASTER magazine today. There's an article "Introduction to the Ned Rig" in it.
  15. Looks like a Cotton Cordell Super Spot to me.

My Dad would use either a brass or silver #3 Aglia blade with squirrel tail for largemouth.
  17. Back to the original question, there's an article in the Fall 2016 Bass Angler Magazine regarding the possibility of "manufacturing" a world record Bass using eggs treated to be "triploid". They give as an example that the current world record rainbow trout (48 lbs) was triploid. They also state the last wild freshwater rainbow trout was 37 lbs. They also speculate that bass could be genetically modified to grow to record size. I hope neither of these possibilities happen.
  18. I've been using Norman Speed clips on my valuable lures, and duolock snaps on my less valuable lures. I remove the split rings but I don't know if that actually makes any difference. Someone should do a scientific test. And yes, I do retie but probably not often enough. Valuable lures = 1) Expensive lures, 2) Lures that have a good history of catching fish, or 3) Lures that you can't buy anymore I have some Mustad Fastach snaps that I willl try out next year.
  19. I just bought a Rage Blade Blaster and can't wait to use it. It is nothing like anything I own or have seen. I thought it was something totally new . . . then, when I was looking around at old lure websites I found something similar called the Walker Special. Has anybody ever fished the Walker Special? If so, have you also fished the Rage Blade Blaster? How do they compare? The website that showed the Walker Special stated it was patented in 1960 (so it's before my time).
  20. After joining Bass Resource I realize I haven't been bass fishing - I've just been pretending!
  21. The Lurenet site does not list the Mudbug. They do list the Lazy Ike, but I think the reference in the other posts was to the Natural Ike which is no longer made. It was made from some sort of new (at the time) plastic that was supposed to be more durable (unless you lose it!) Yes, I liked the Heddon Sonic too. I forgot about that one.
  22. That's what I need to work on too! Also, finding the time to fish more (I say that every year).
  23. Rapala Fat Rap FR-7, Rebel Deep Wee R, Cotton Cordell Spot (the previous shape, before they put BBs in them).
  24. tcbass, Sorry, I've been offline for a while. Anyway, the tubing is just to keep the swivel & blade from flying off. So you can do it either way that bchase44 or scaleface showed. I started using a piece cut from those rubber tube-like things that are used to attach screen to screen doors (someone's suggestion). The attached picture is of a spinnerbait that was in my nearest tacklebox. I was experimenting using a snap swivel to allow changing the blade, but the hook sometimes snags the snap. It's probably better to use a swivel with split rings.
  25. Thanks. I guess it's time to order from TW! Thanks, but I am looking for something easily replaceable (like at my local tackle store) Or TW
