  1. @cgolf, It's more like a newspaper than a magazine. The longest articles are about a page long. There's some fishing information, info about tournaments, and a bunch of small articles about various fishing related topics. And of course, there are a bunch of ads (I'm kind of weird, and I like reading fishing related ads ). I often find myself with only little bits of free time, so it's something to read during those times.
  2. @Oregon Native, You might able to find your fish at this site. Looks like it has a long dorsal fin. I'm assuming your fish was native and not introduced. http://gallery.nanfa.org/v/members/ssminnow/Sucker+Family+-+Catostomidae/?g2_page=1
  3. @cgolf, I just started getting it. Be aware that it is approximately 10 1/2" x 13 3/4"! I received my first issue last month and I thought, what is that huge thing in my mailbox?
  4. An option is to fish at Dixon Lake. A California fishing license is not required for Dixon Lake: "Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Therefore, anglers are not required to have a California fishing license while fishing at Dixon Lake. However, all anglers 8 years and older must purchase a daily lake fishing permit (Adults - $7.00, Youth ages 8-15 and Seniors 60 and better $5.00). A second rod permit can be purchased for an additional $2.00. Fishing permits are available for purchase at the concession stand near the Ranger Station. You must have a valid fishing permit with you prior to starting to fish. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect and will be enforced by Park Rangers." from https://www.escondido.org/Dixon-Lake-fish-report.aspx
  5. Now everyone is going to want a WV lure!
  6. They both are the same weight. Although the package on one has 5/8 and the other has 1/2, they are the same. I weighed two straight from the packages, and both were 17 grams (approximately .6 ounces)
  7. Interesting. I wonder what the "V" notch (on the elliptical one) does where the jig is connected? I'd be interested in knowing if it affects the action.
  8. American Eels are an East Coast species. Your hypothesis does not apply to the West Coast.
  9. disregard this entry. The link to another site wouldn't work.
  10. disregard. The link I inserted didn't work
  11. I think Burke made different types of flex plugs. The bottom one (red/white) might be one of those. Good luck with your search.
  12. I often look at a forum for San Diego just to see what's happening down there. I just saw this: Santee Lakes had their final trout plant of the season this week. Rangers reported on Saturday that fishing had been great for trout and bass. Sally Roberts (pictured) made a huge splash with her catch of a 9 lb 15 oz largemouth bass that she caught while trout fishing. She was fishing PowerBait on a rod and reel combo she got at Walmart for $5, with 4 lb test line, and a #18 treble hook. Bass are catch and release only at Santee Lakes. I guess I'm using the wrong stuff when I visit San Diego!
  13. I'm not sure if this has been reported on BR already: I found this on another site. 15.48 pound bass caught in Lake Fork.
  14. @shadking79, You mean there's more?
  15. @IsaiahH, I'm confused. What are you asking? Are you asking how to get new line put on the reel? Or is the reel broken and you want to get it fixed? Or are you asking if we think your grandfather's rod is a fake? Your photos at that drive.google.com site you listed show a spincast reel (Zebco 404) attached to the rod. Also, the photo shows the rod has a trigger so it is not a spinning rod. If you just need new line, do what @fishnkamp suggested. If you are worried your grandfather's rod is a fake, who cares, just take him fishing and enjoy your time with him! (and hopefully catch some fish.)
  16. Amazing! When I was a kid, my friend had one in his aquarium, but it was only about 2 1/2 inches. I didn't know they grew that big. Thanks for sharing.
  17. @Bluebasser86, Not to get off topic, but in several forums you've stated you don't like using crankbaits. How is it that you can identify all these lures? Do you have a bunch but just don't like using them, do you collect them, or what?
  18. Are these all at the same scale? It looks like all of the hooks are sharper than the taper point suture (surgical) needle. The next time I need surgery, I'll bring some hooks they can use to sew up the cut.
  19. @N Florida Mike, I've heard that Bluefish have some good teeth on them. Any special advice the OP might need for handling Bluefish?
  20. @FishOnLMB, Good luck. I used to go trout fishing there with my Dad.
  21. You might try to find out information about Lake Berryessa. I haven't been there in a long time so I don't known about the current conditions or where to launch a Kayak.
  22. @Florida Cracker2, I didn't know what a sunshine bass was so I Googled it. This is what it said on Wikipedia: A hybrid striped bass, also known as a wiper or whiterock bass, is a hybrid between the striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and the white bass (M. chrysops). Hybrid striped bass are produced two different ways. Some of these fish are produced by fertilizing eggs from white bass with sperm from striped bass; the resulting fish are also called "sunshine bass" or "Cherokee bass". Others are produced by fertilizing eggs from striped bass with sperm from white bass; the resulting fish is called a "palmetto bass". I learn a bunch of stuff reading through these BR forums. Thanks.
  23. I think I've read Hawaii has largemouth, spots, smallies, and peacocks. Not sure if they're all on the same island or spread out though. @bigbassin' The OP mentioned Irma and Sunrise. There is a city in Florida named Sunrise, and a Hurricane Irma hit Florida last year. Therefore I think the OP is from Florida. But as @Drew03cmc mentioned. I don't think there are smallmouth bass in Florida (unless they are in an aquarium). But didn't Florida just have a really cold spell? That may have reduced the snakehead population (and a bunch of other animals (and unfortunately oranges?))
