Rod or reel more important for frog setup.
I have to agree the rod is more important in this case and some line that floats.

Old Bass Pro line of rods, underrated?
A buddy of mine use to use the Tourney Special Rods and he loved them. I was not a big fan but for the money they got the job done.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Stopped at Dicks today and was looking for pretty much nothing and found some Seaguar Kanzen braid for $5. I bought 4 spools (40lb, 50lb and 60lb). I am not a big fan of braid, but for $5, I think I can give it a try again.

Abu Garcia Fantasista Regista Rods
Finally got this thing today. I ordered the 7' M casting. It is simply amazing. Not only is super sensitive and it just flat out looks cool. I would say it is just slightly more sensitive than my G. Loomis 803c GLX and is more fun to fish. The micro guides are a bit weird though. If I can get a few bucks together I am going to try pick up another one.

Thoughts on the Revo Winch Gen 4
I tried one of these out for about 30min last weekend and really liked it. I have been kind of unimpressed with most of the previous Revos I have tried/owned but not this one. It was smooth, powerful and cast a mile. It may a bit big but it felt good in hand. Does anybody have one of these and have an opinion? I may pick one up in the future.

Is it normal for Shimano reels to eventually become slighty geary?
I have had several Shimanos over the years and none of them have been geary. This doesn't mean that I have not had parts wear out or go bad. If I did experience any thing like that, it may have been after a lot of abuse and a general lack of care and cleaning.

At Dicks Sporting Goods
I use them and that is a good deal. Usually they are about $5 a pack. The regular worm hooks are sharp and pretty good but I like the Wide Gap Plus 4/0. It is an awesome hook and it's pretty thick and heavy.

Shimano curado 200g6

Thoughts on Tokyo rig?
I will stick with a drop shot or spin shot rig.

Decision made! Which baitcaster?
After trying one out for the first, I am also going with the Curado K. But if you are planning on going big and slow, I like the new Revo Winch.

Berkley Fireline Ultra 8 Review ~ (video)
Thanks for the review. Good info. In general, I have never been a fan of Fireline and have not used it in years. The original was not bad but it seems each rendition has been hit or miss, I will stick with Power Pro or Suffix 832.

Line spooling devices?
Berkley line station works best for me.

Schooling Smallmouth
Gary Yamamoto Fat Ika rigged backwards with a 4/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus hook. Smallmouth love these things.

Only one to choose? Feedback please
I have a Shimano Core and a G. Loomis 6'6'' 783C GLX that I use for general purpose. This is not a great setup from an economical set up but this rod and reel combo will do just about anything. The other setup I use from the bank is a St. Croix Avid 6' ML Fast with a Shimano Stradic. This set up works well but it just isn't ideal for all situations.

Magnetic (Daiwa Tatula SV TWS) vs centrifugal (Shimano Curado 200K) brakes
I own and fish both. My personal preference is Shimano. I know it seems easier to fix the magnetic breaks on the outside of a Daiwa but I think the system is more finicky. With most of the Shimano I own, I set the breaks with two or three on, and that's it. With Daiwas, I can be fine for about 10-15 casts then I get a cast, for no apart reason, that backlashes. Now with that said, I still think most Daiwas are great and would love a new Zillion. Two things I do think about when this discussion comes up in my head.... 1. Will the magnets on my Daiwa reels wear out it in time (loose their magnetism)? 2. When Shimano breaks wear out they can be replaced and they are a pain to replace.

Quantum?
This would have saved one of reels. I guess if I would have looked, it would have been an easy fix. I had this happen just after one year of use.

Abu Garcia Fantasista Regista Rods
I had to order it. It's going to be a week before it arrives. I was hoping it was going to be in for me to have in hand last Friday but it did not work out.

Brand?
Pradco covers everything but Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits might be close for me.

Issues with new Curado K
I have the Curado 201G Left and when I got it at Dick's I had them spool it. I spooled it the second time around and it spooled heavy on the right side. I tried spooling it multiple times and I thought Dick's had messed it up but I actually had the drag tight and the spool tension way loose. This some how caused it to get in a bind which pulled the line to one side (or at least that is what I think happened). I can't say this is what is going on with your reel but I have since kept both drag and spool tension tightened in middle and I make sure I start the line out by tying it to one of the holes in the middle. I have since had no issues.

Quantum?
I had the older energy PT spinning and a energy PT casting reels, both looked awesome but fell apart after a year of fishing. Quantum at the time seemed one of the great marketing and innovative companies in the fishing world. After their quality issues started to become known, they just sorted fell out of the mainstream market. All of the ones I had ended up in the dumpster. It was a shame, they were pretty cool.

Yamamoto Fishing Line
I tried the 12lb about 5-6 years ago. I recall it was extremely expensive and just OK. It kind of reminded me of copolymer Pline C21 and CXX, sort stiff but stretchy (I know that sounds backwards). There are several other lines I like way better than this one (Invizx, Tatsu, Sunline Shooter and Trielene FC).

Okuma Helios Air
Ok so the trick with my new reel was a good cleaning and re-lubing. It seems much smoother and cast like a dream. The breaks are also working better. I did notice that in the box was an inspection tag from 2015. I think that with most reels this would not be an issue but whatever they used to lube this one may not last very long.
