  1. Yes but personally I don't think it's ideal. I have tried using a MH Fast/Mod and M Mod and both seemed odd when trying to work the bait. I tend to like a M or MH fast that 6'6'' or 6'8'' in length with stiff feeling at the reel seat and soft tip.
  2. Here are my general guidelines for jerkbaits and it's worked great so far...... Equipment> 6'6'' or 6'8" M or MH fast with a soft tip. Preferably.... St. Croix Legend Tournament LBC68MF Reel> 7.X to 1 Baits> Lucky Craft 100SP or DD, Megabass Vision 110. Color is up to you but anything two toned and shiny has worked for me. Line> Seaguar Invisx 12lb The colder the water, the longer I pause. A cast can last up to 2 minutes. If i had to pick one to start with LC in American Shad...... Good luck
  3. I looked at this pack recently and found a few images and reviews with all the same issues. I decided to go a different direction.
  4. I have a few different colors of the LC 1.5 Silent and have caught fish on all but for whatever reason, the old ones were better.
  5. Final report before battle.....
  6. I have the Gen 4 Winch and it will handle small baits just fine. It's breaking is a little weird to get use to at first but once you get a bait dialed in, it's awesome. It's smooth and the larger handle makes cranking easy, especially for deep cranks. I also like it's overall power and slower speed. The only down side is that the body feels a little cheap compared to the Curado but the parts are top notch. Also, believe it or not, they feel about the same size in hand and the weight is also about the same. On the other side of things, I have never seen a Curado, when set up properly, that was not capable of handling smaller cranks.
  7. I never get tired of this.....
  8. Wow. Hope you're out and about soon.
  9. No cold weather yet but one of my favorites from last year. He loves the snow.
  10. Sounds like he needs to be home more often.....
  11. Looking for some advice a new tackle bag. I have a back pack set up now and I am looking to switch it up. Maybe get things more organized. I have looked at the 3700 size Plano bags and I am sort of leaning that way but thought I would get some opinions on what you guys are using. Thanks for any advice.....
  12. Awesome set up. I would love to pull the trigger on the same combo. Enjoy
  13. 6'6'' Fenwick HMG Med. Fast. It has a soft enough tip to work great for jerkbaits, especially the lighter ones like the Shad Raps.
  14. CXX P-line 12lb for casting reels and 6lb CX for spinning reels. ?
  15. I like 6' for rod for fishing in tight places and fishing from the bank. 6'6'' is great for jerk baits and dragging stuff along the bottom when I am standing up in a boat. 7' and longer for long casts and quick hook sets (sort of).
  16. I will try to contact them sometime in the future.
  17. I would say the Fenwick HMG 6'9'' ML for 1000 sized reel. You might even look at a light rod. Personally when I think of a 1000 sized reel, I am using it for panfish, crappie and small bass. For me the 2500 fits a more general purpose reel than a 1000.
  18. Those are some great reels and could last a lifetime. Congrats.
  19. I just purchased a new St. Croix Avid 7' MH Fast. I had purchased the old one about 12 years ago. The old feels very stiff and the hump is more pronounced by the reel seat, two things I did not like about the rod, but the new one is different in both aspects. The rod is not as stiff, it casts somewhat better, and the hump is slightly smaller. Other than that, its pretty much the same. My question is.... Did St.Croix update/change this rod somewhere along the way?
  20. I have been using a Shimano Symetre 2500FJ and a Fenwick Elite Tech 7'2'' ML Extra Fast with 6lb Trilene XL FC. It has worked great so far.
  21. In cold weather, I go with the usual suspects in this order> jerkbait (Lucky Craft 100 SP), jigs, and ribbon tail worms. All are fished slow with long pauses anywhere from *** minutes a cast. Fish tend to slurp up the bait this time of year rather than strike at it. Slow and patient pays off. Going out tomorrow. I will see how things go.
  22. Bait Monkey got me today....... I picked up another St. Croix Avid 7' MH Fast, 4 packs of soft plastic, a white Wopper Plopper, a spinner bait I lost, hooks for the year, some P-Line CXX 12lb, and 8 tungsten bullet weights. All for under $200. I can't say where just yet but another tackle shop is biting the dust.
  23. I have a machine fead spooler (old Gander Mountain store pick up) and a Berkley line spooler. Out of the two, I like the Berkley spooler better. Easy to use, control, and set up and I don't have to worry about, well, a lot of things going wrong.
  24. I am not a big fan of Lews Reels. Not because of how they are made or how they perform, it's just a personal preference. With that said, I know a lot of guys that love their Lews reels and I would not hesitate to recommend you get another one. Since you are having issues with the drag maybe this will help......
  25. For me I, if I am fishing from the bank I like a 6'6'' or 6'8'' rod x-fast MH with 12-15lb FC line. I like the Terminator Pro series and of course Sieberts.
