  1. I keep a whopper plopper 90 tied on my top water rod at all times. I caught three or four on it this week. One of my favorite lures.
  2. As already mentioned there is the Zillons that are on sale over at TW... Ive got three Revo Rockets. I LOVE them...
  3. I have a Dobyns champion 7MH F that I fish top water, spinner baits, jerk baits and cranks on 30lb braid. I actually prefer it due to zero line stretch.
  4. Having owned and loved both I would choose a SOT. I love having my little Old Town Vapor angler for ponds, but a SOT boat is far better for what I do.
  5. I have 4 or 5 Ducket micro magic rods, and a few of them have Quantum reels on them. Ive used them for texas rigs, cranks, spinner baits, top water, jigs, and pretty much every style of fishing I can think of. I think you have a great set up! Drop shot you might want to get a different rod, but there is nothing wrong with what you have for bass fishing.
  6. Online tackle company has a pretty good deal on them...Interested in the 9.1 gear ratio bait caster... I love my Abu Revo rockets, wondering if anyone owns one of these and how it compares? Thanks.
  7. Yup. Ive got two of them. I use them as loaners. Great reels although I do feel them grind..
  8. Yup agreed, On all my bait casters, I either run a mono backer, tape, or I can tie it through a spool hole...
  9. My ATAK is my main boat. I fish at least twice a week and owned mine since march 2015. I really can't say enough about it. Stable, easy to customize, and ultra comfortable. I just walked in from a 8 hour fishing day, and its no different than sitting on my couch. After all the boats Ive owned I can honestly say its the best yak Ive come in contact with.
  10. I fish out of a kayak. I take my wife sometimes, and I also take a friend out here or there as well, but I find that I prefer to fish by myself for the most part. That way Im not a guide, or a tackle loaner, Im just out there to catch fish...
  11. I had a friend last year who bought the same yak as a back up. Its a barge, can't stand in it, but its a pretty good little boat! Trick would be to go through it and inspect the seams. In that boat they had a little bit of a quality control issue..If there is an issue you can seal them up yourself and you should have a perfect starter boat! Be safe, have fun!
  12. Old heavy bass taste like a shoe. No thanks. When in the mood to have fish for dinner, I go twenty minutes from my house to fish for high elevation native trout... Thats good eating!
  13. For me, I fish topwater before the sun comes up, then I fish flukes or wacky senkos on a 3/16 weighted swimbait hook. That usually progresses to Texas rigs and Jigs as the season starts to see more and more 80+ days.
  14. Braid is the way for me. I just went to a Revo Rocket with 9.0.1 gearing on a Dobyns 7ft rod with 30lb braid... Love being able to have my whopper Ploppers create their own rooster tail!
  15. I fish out of a kayak, so my reels get dunked a lot. Never had to clean it over freshwater outside of my yearly maintenance.
  16. Yup another 30lb braid user on spinning reels here as well.
  17. I eat native trout from the high streams but Ive always caught and released bass. Its part of keeping the sport alive. But in the end thats me, what others like your dad do is up to them as long as its legal... I do get bothered by the "stringer idiots" that I see at the launch... Yesterday I saw a guy with a handful of nice pregnant bass on his stringer all proud of his daily haul.... But I won't lie, I often see these people, then tell them how great my luck was that day using a lure that I know isn't working...
  18. Ive got one. Ive actually got 3 different quantum bait casters the EXO being the best.. They are back ups and loaners for me but they aren't bad. For that cost it will definitely be worth your money.. I think they get a bad rap when in the end, they are tough and take a beating.
  19. Same here. For my style, straight braid works best for me... I see no reason in my waters to tie on something that weakens my line. I don't need the transparency. Funny thing is, Ive been drop shotting with ten pound braid lately even, catching more than ever....
  20. I use one all the time during topwater season....
  21. NICE! Ive heard great things about Eddyline boats. Enjoy!
  22. I retired one of my work trucks, a 90's chevy z71 4x4 to be my "fishing truck" so my kayak stays in the bed loaded and ready to go at a moments notice. I use the T-bone tail gate extender as well so I can just pull it up in place somewhat easy.
  23. Kayak hands down. I started in a canoe. I still own two canoes, and use them on trips with the kids and wife all the time. But for me, we used canoes to fish out of back in the day because we couldn't use our bass boats on certain lakes, or didn't want to pay for a full size boat. Thats why angling SOT kayaks were invented, to combat all the issues canoes have for fisherman. If I was going to rig a canoe with pontoons, trolling motor, fish finder, multiple batteries, a wooden board across the boat to hold tools, a lawn chair, 20 rods, lunch, and all my tackle, it would be in a boat that I don't have to lift. To me, it defeats the purpose on why these boats were made. I guess being a utilitarian has something to do with it. I want to be able to get in or out of the water fast, hunt down fish in high winds or rain, Have the stability to stand, and have the boat be ready to mount state of the art electronics, be self bailing, and unsinkable. Canoes just don't do that for me.
  24. Bluegill colors... War eagle are my favorite...
