  1. Interesting, I have spent a lot of time using SG to degrease steel and Al pre-welding and it isn't very strong, even undiluted. I might pick some Perfect Solution up then.
  2. Well, then you are set, assuming the river level plays nice.
  3. I use a lot of the Booyah Pond Magic spinner baits for pickerel, they do get damaged but if you hunt around ebay it's pretty easy to find them for pretty cheap if you buy like a half dozen. Those Stanley's look great though, I am going to give them a try when my Pond Magic stash starts running low.
  4. This stuff sounds a lot like Simple Green, anyone know what it actually is?
  5. The parking area I use is on the Maryland side, but it is extremely limited and has a very narrow pull off on the side of a very narrow road that goes along the canal. I have read that one can park along Keep Tryst Road access the river from there, but I have never personally done it.
  6. The original bag for bulk storage, but will build little kits around a particular lure or presentation in Plano boxes so I can just grab them and go.
  7. I have never been to Urieville, but was thinking of Unicorn and Trap Pond.
  8. Well, there are always Raaco boxes, but you might want to sit down before you look at the prices. https://www.raaco.com/Home-1114.aspx
  9. I feel like the smaller 3500 planos are much stronger then the larger ones, but that might just be the result of not being able to cram as much stuff into them.
  10. Harpers Ferry is a very popular wading spot. There used to be a USGS gauge right there, but it seems to be offline at the moment; https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/inventory/?site_no=01620000 There is one a few miles upriver at Shepherdstown WV; https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?01618000 It looks like the National Weather Service has a gauge there, but I am less familiar with their site; http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lwx&gage=HFEW2
  11. Yea, I find it far easier to skip with my sv105 vs other reels I have tried. I am still awful at it, but with the Alphas I get a bunch of loose coils, with my other reels I get a proper backlash. I also found that a slightly "softer then Fast" rod was really helpful as well, in my case a Regular-Fast jdm rod.
  12. I have thought about horizontal storage for some of my less-used rods, but have yet to do it. I am getting to the point where I can accept that collecting rods and reels is a reasonable accessory hobby to actual fishing, so I need to work out better storage in my tiny little house.
  13. I have one for the same reason, to keep Zman stuff in the bags and to have some room for terminal tackle. I keep my Ned stuff in small flyfishing boxes, so this one holds the larger plastics I use for shakyhead or t-rigs. I like it, but it never really leaves the car as it's too bulky to carry with me. I think next season I am going to re-stock it for kayak use as then then bulk will matter a lot less.
  14. A good solution to "I want longer rods but my ceilings are too low".
  15. From what I jsut read, you pay shipping both ways and they put a $500 hold on your card until the reels makes it back.
  16. Man, I always forget that they offer that. I think once we thaw out I am going to take one for a spin. I would love love love to be able to demo rods for a few days, but I can see how that would be unworkable. There are so many rods that I am super curious about, but really don't need to buy.
  17. A month with no new posts, winter is a jerk. I was out glumly hiking around a frozen pond yesterday and noticed something odd in the ice; Found maybe 2-3 dozen sunfish frozen in the ice. They were all within 3-4' of the bank and the ice was still crazy thick, I took my jack handle and chipped at it for a bit, made it like 3" down before I gave up. This is a really really small pond, I am a little worried about fish-kills now.
  18. Well geez, what's the point then I would love to try one, but don't want to blind-buy reels anymore, I guess I need to track one down to demo.
  19. Are DC reels really "backlash proof" or just really "backlash resistant"? Like can one slam a lure into a dock piling 10' into the cast and be fine?
  20. I have mostly 1/4 and a few 1/2 ones. I went lighter on them so I could throw them on lighter tackle, but didn't realize how much resistance the blade caused, the head weight barely matters. When I run out I think I am going to go all 1/2. I did impulse buy a 2oz chatterbait the other day, I sometimes bank fish a reservoir with really steep drops, I figured I would try bombing it out and slowly working it back up the bottom.
  21. What hooks are you using for those plastics? I just won an eBay auction for about a half dozen packs of weighted Beast hooks in 4/0 and 8/0 and want to find some plastics to use them with.
  22. If you're fishing the Eastern Shore ponds I think you're talking about, you are going to confront the ever present pickerel menace. I am going to start with soft swimbaits like the Trashfish, Big Dipper, and Big Ez/Gz in heavy pickerel areas before I throw a hudd in there.
  23. I am thinking of Rocky Gorge as my "big bass and maybe stripers" spot this year. But I am pretty pumped to try them in smaller ponds, more so than bigger water. Thanks for this, I had never heard of this guy but from what little I watched it looks like it will be very helpful.
  24. You were nice enough to make me up some swimjigs to match the "KVD Magic" color paddle tails, I was very pleased how they came out.
  25. I am a big believer in the KVD Line and Lure, but I don't find it helps much in weather this cold. I was up at the Patapsco today and it is de-iced but I am not hopeful about ponds and such anytime soon.
