Underspin
What am I missing in the cost of making an underspin? Most smaller tackle manufacturers price an underspin and a jig about the same and from some admittedly fast searching, it seems like a skirt and weedguard costs more than a swivel and a blade. Also I feel like building a jig would take a bit more time as well. Am I crazy? I fish a ton of 3.8 FI's on swimbait hooks and just started using them on swimjigs this spring. I want to give underspins a go but some weird sense of cheapness has kept me from buying any.

Maryland's Who's who!
Ah, now that had not occurred to me. That little marsh right above it would be great habitat for them. It's only really fishable via kayak or canoe too I think, might have to give it an afternoon this summer.

I am googling like mad but am coming up with nothing. I suppose there isnt a brand name on it somewhere?

Maryland's Who's who!
Mostly guys there are going for white perch or catfish it seems. No one ever really talks about bass in the Pax, but honestly I have never really tried. Have you been there before? The pier is tiny and any bank access requires walking under the bridge and along the usually-muddy shoreline. The water in front of the pier is like the snaggyest spot in the world I think. If I ever get into casting jigs I am gonna take a snaghook tied to like 1/4" amsteel and drag out a lifetime supply of lead bank sinkers.

Three lure choices
I would go Spinnerbait and Ned Rig to complement the senkos.

Owner Twistlock hooks
I use the Twistlocks in almost every situation where I would have before used a EWG. For reasons I cannot articulate, I hate the weighted ones though, and use the Moaner Hooks ones for that.

Where to buy bulk Senkos and how long will they last sealed?
Do you know when they started this policy? A local-ish store has a few hundred packs last time I was there, but the place isnt very old.

Who's selling the Whopper Plopper 110?
Ebay's dispute/complaint system is very very weighted in favor of the buyer, to the point where a lot of smaller "professional" sellers have left the site. I am more confident buying there then most any other site these days.

When is Enough, Enough?
Lately I have been selling the guns to buy tackle. I hit a similar point a month or so ago. I went through all my gear and anything that I had never fished or caught on got moved to a box. Every quarter I am gonna do the same thing, cull out what I have not used or caught on and put it in the box. I have grand plans to donate the entire box next December, but we shall see. But even just having my tackle area less cluttered has been great and really helps me focus on fishing what I already have. I still buy new stuff, but it only a little here or there. I have managed to resist the last two sale holidays, so it must be working at least a little.

Maryland's Who's who!
There are no "good" commutes around here, better to live somewhere you like and get some books on tape for the drive.

Maryland's Who's who!
I have never seen the Little Pax at flood levels, the falls above the dam are pretty low. No idea how strong a swimmer snakeheads are. Weekday fishing is the best, but working most weekends/frequenst travel makes it hard to see friends and family. I think throughout my 30's I managed to attend only a single friend's wedding out of a dozen I was invited too.

Maryland's Who's who!
The Savage Mill snakeheads have been there for awhile, I saw one and I think posted about it last spring. No idea if they can make it upriver past the falls.

Beginner fisherman, own two spinners, looking for advice on next purchase
OP, look around the Internet for information about the "Midwest finesse" style of bass fishing. It is a system/philosophy of fishing that involves "numbers fishing" with inexpensive spinning gear and lures, with a heavy emphasis on frugality in general. Also search for "slider fishing", which is another low-cost finesse system with a reputation for being very effective for numbers.

I am almost on board..........almost
I almost exclusively fish soft plastics have somehow never managed to get a 5 inch senko to work that well for me. I'm going to start forcing myself to give them a good try and start going out some days with nothing else in my tackle bag.

Fishing Shoes
I do a lot of hiking and tare through about a pair of boots every two years, so for general bank fishing I just wear my "second best" pair of hiking boots. "Third best" live in my car as emergency boots, and whoever gets bumped back to fourth place finally gets thrown away. If you have a common foot size and don't mind garish neon colors, there are a bunch of Internet deal-sites that focus on hiking equipment and it's pretty easy to find hugely discounted, high-quality waterproof shoes and boots. The catch is very limited sizing and usually the worst looking the color, the greater the discount.

Can anyone point me to a video in how to change gears in my Daiwa Alphas?
I recently did a full detail strip of one of my reels and had a lot of difficulty getting it back together. Fortunately the Internet is full of people who know what they're doing and are nice enough to help walked me through getting it back together. At least for the reel I was working on, a Zillon SV, the exploded diagram has some ambiguity in terms of the exact orientation at some parts, so taking pictures would've been tremendously helpful for me. But now that I've done it once I'm far more confident about taking them apart and will not make any of my more idiotic mistakes the second time.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Try Shimreels on ebay, I wanna say that they do "free shipping" by just bundling it into the cost of the rod. I am intrestind in tying an XF ultralight rod, so if you do end up buying one please post your thoughts.

So when did the pound get decimalized?
The shooting sports still use "grains" for powder and bullet weights, a unit of measurement last popular when eye of newt was still a common cold remedy. Not even getting into the madness that is land vs groove measuremnts. I had hoped that fishing would be a little more reasonable, but then discovered how line strength is rated and how a 1/2oz jig might end up weighing 5/8oz or more.

Kayak making noise on top of car
I switched to rope for the bow/stern tie-downs and found it really cuts the noise down. I have some cheap cam-locks but a trucker's hitch would work just as well.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Great thanks! I was hoping that is what they were. I think I have now caught every species of sunfish we have around here. The Warmouth has been eluding me for a year or two now. Such a great name too!

Fishing Spots: Washington DC, following up the Potomac
Wow, lucky guy, that is one of my all time favorite spots to fish. I am like an hour or so away though, so the water level gamble really kills my desire to go there more often.

Phenix or Loomis?
I have a Phenix Recon 2 BFS rod and I really like everything about it, other then the reel seat. It cramps my hand after an hour or three. But the rod fishes well, though the 1/16oz lower limit is a little optimistic, though 1/8oz casts just fine. The sweep spot seems to be around 1/4oz total lure weight. I think I like it enough that I am going to have a custom rod built on the same blank, but with a different reel seat. I have also thought about having a spinning rod build on one as well.

Maryland's Who's who!
Did some pond hopping today, caught bass everywhere I went but they were all small. All came from pitching plastics to pads or under docks. Did have a close call in the morning; Might need to start wearing a cup. Also caught a big old bullfrog;
