  1. just an update we have now had 3 days in a row with 30* temps (90*f) so the water is likely back up to the high 60's low 70's
  2. i do the same as Bluebasser run a bladed jig or a spinnerbait along the edge of the mat to find the active fish that are on the edge then go to froging and punching
  3. last time i checked the water temp which was last Sunday it varied between 67-64 i was still getting largemouth on a frog up shallow so don't be afraid of topwater. I would be throwing a fair amount of lipless cranks, chatterbaits and some jigs if the temp raises throughout the day i would be throwing topwater when the sun is highest. where are you going exactly?
  4. the only time i target anything else is before bass opens up here
  5. quite true for up here, the northern lakes are normally surrounded with trees so in the fall when they loose most of their leaves some end up in the lake. The decaying leaves give the water it's colour much like tea as you said. I don't really consider those lakes clear but they do have some decent visibility, in saying that most of my big fish have come on black and blue baits so that should say something.
  6. any z man craw would float too
  7. baby paca craw it floats up because of the air chamber
  8. normally 1-2 days a week i try to take advantage of the limited season we have up here so i branch into pike in the spring to get out as early as possible, though i do take at least a week of in the summer or fall to spend at the cottage by myself and fish as much as humanly possible
  9. i do both it just depends on where i am, i've started targeting pike at a small quarry lake near my house so mainly just one rod with a rapala glidin rap, a pearch swimbait or a 3/4oz res up north at my home lake i am in the boat and normally have at least 6 rods in the boat with me i leave just about everything in there tackle wise so i grab the rods i want and go
  10. pm me your address and i can send you some stuff
  11. fish those big baits you got from the mtb, throw a squarebill around the rip rap banks and drag a jig
  12. i throw most of my swimbaits on a dobyns fury 806sb mainly hudds and bigger glides, for my lighter glide baits i use a bass pro bionic blade 7'6" h/mf it has a 1-4oz rating which is actually pretty good for the price point ($89.99 CAD/$79.99 USD). I have stuck a few fish on it on treble hooked baits as well as a savage gear 3d trout so it does have some nice power too. dont be afraid of trying a different brand there are tons of good rod makers
  13. i've heard of people using them for a drop shot
  14. it's just my opinion i know they will be okay for longer but i tend to worry more the longer i have them out of the water
  15. how long can you hold your breath? generally that's what i use as a rule of thumb
  16. stay away from spiderwire i have had more break offs because of that than cheap 8 lb mono if you want a decent braid for a good price pick up some daiwa j-braid x4 i haven't had any issues with it all year on 2 different setups
  17. i would say my favourite is this picture this was a nice fish that helped me build a ton of confidence in a jig it was a hard day but i was dragging a jig in 20' of water and she inhaled it
  18. i've had something similar happen while throwing a rattling arashi 5 then switching to a kvd 2.5 silent. It made the whole silent vs rattles in a crankbait debate pop up in my head and re-think if my water was clear or stained
  19. what is your budget for this reel?
  20. they're not too big just throw them trust me
  21. i've had a bass pro graphite series for about 3 years now and it's held up to 1.5oz punching and pitching
  22. okay guys im looking to redo my v hull aluminum boat this winter, i plan on running 3 things on board, a 12v 1100gph bilge, a helix 5 g2 gps and either a minn kota traxxis 45 or a traxxis 55. my question for everyone here is what do you think the best setup would be battery wise? I'm completely in the dark I don't really know what would be needed. I know the draw on the helix 5 is 600mA so if someone could point me in the right direction or at least give me a hand figuring it out i would be quite grateful
