Line Weight for Lipless Cranks
Okay, so would my setup with my Dobyn's be adequate? I know the Sunline is 17lb but it's a thin diameter line. I would be throwing mostly 1/2oz. with an occasional 3/4oz.

Line Weight for Lipless Cranks
What do you guys typically use for lipless cranks? I was originally thinking of using my squarebill setup of a 7ft. medium/moderate Veritas Winch 2.0 and a Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1 with 12lb. Seaguar Abrazx but now I'm leaning more toward my Dobyn's Fury 734C which right now has a 7.3:1 Curado I spooled with 17lb. Sunline Armilo Defier on it but I'm wondering if I should use heavier fluorocarbon like maybe a 15lb. or more instead?

KVD moving to Lew's
Look, KVD is a pro athlete...period! As such they are allowed to become "free agents" after their current contracts are up...that's all this is, KVD was a free agent and Lews made him the best offer so he signed on with them. No different than an NFL player who's been with one team for many years becoming a free agent and signing with another team for more money. It's a business move for both parties involved, nothing more or less. I honestly don't understand all the bruhaha over this...this should have been a 1 or 2 page thread...4 pages...sheez . I like KVD, I think he's a good guy and I'm happy he's doing what is best for him and his family. As for Lews, they make a quality product and to say anything else is just silly. Pretty much all of the big name reel manufacturer's make good reels nowadays (just like in snowmobiles...I have owned Ski-doo's, Arctic Cat's, Yamaha's and Polaris...they all make good sleds). I'm sure there will be some cool new KVD Lews products coming out and it'll be fun to see them...not sure I'll buy them but it's always nice to see sweet new products!!!

What size line would you use for crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwater?

Best crankbait for fishing lay downs?
Another good one would be the Booyah Flex 2. It's made with an injected foam process that makes it super tough and it has the buoyancy of a balsa bait so it should be fast on the rise after deflecting off obstacles which I think would be handy in timber.

What's the fun in that? I think you are bait monkey prejudice!!!

Spook One Knocker
How do you like this bait? I have other spooks, Super jr., Zara, Super but didn't have any One Knocker's so when I was on vacation up in Canada this past weekend I visited a SAIL store (their version of Dick's Sporting Goods but bigger) and picked up 3 in Bone, Ghost Minnow and Foxy Mama colors. I figure Fall topwater will be in full swing very soon and give the fish something they haven't hear a lot of to take out their aggression on .

Best crankbait for fishing lay downs?
I think they would both work...the bass will be up shallow gorging before winter so i think the Movement 80x would be killer!

4 baits for fall
1.) Jig w/trailer 2.) Topwater (too many to list just one so I'll just use the category) 3.) Crankbait (both lipless and squarebill) 4.) Jerkbait

Best crankbait for fishing lay downs?
Movement 80X! Shallow running crank (1 - 3ft.) but has a unique wide wobble and big bill to deflect off brush, rocks etc. It's reasonably priced at $8.99 and the 6th Sense paint jobs are as good as Mega Bass IMO.

Best walking bait? Rover vs. Vixen?
Get some of both ?! Seriously, they sound different so having 1 of each wouldn't be a bad idea.

The latest sale thread
Amazon is selling Lew's Mach Crush casting reels for $101...that's almost a $60 savings!!!

Ozark Trail lures
I 100% agree with this. IMO that would be money better spent than messing around with Ozark Trail lures but that's just me.

Ozark Trail lures
True but if the bait has inferior components and a split ring breaks or a hook bends out or the bait breaks (i.e.-cracks a bill, takes on water etc.) you won't be catching the fish either!

Boat Won't Start
He certainly helped me...literally saved my Fall fishing season. I couldn't have done it without him. He even gave me his personal phone number so i could call him and he walked me through the process of wiring up the push button starter...super nice and very patient, even with a wiring neophyte like me!!!

Decent, cheap rubber boot
I just bought me a pair of these and got them today. They seem perfect for what I want and that's to keep me dry when launching the boat in early Spring or the Fall when the water is too chilly to be wading in with exposed skin. I tried them on and they fit perfect...can't wait to use em' .

Ozark Trail lures
It's up to you buddy, it's your time and your money ;). If I were you I'd stick with the H2O baits, they are the best "house brand" baits out there and come with quality VMC hooks to begin with plus they are cheap...can't get much better bang for the buck with H2O baits. Whatever you do, good luck and tight lines!!!

Ozark Trail lures
I wouldn't bother, I've heard terrible quality components so once you upgrade them to quality components you're at the price point of much better made lures to begin with!

Lipless Crankbaits
Has anyone tried the River2Sea Ruckus? Thoughts?

Boat Won't Start
Yup, had the muffs on and the hose hooked up!

Boat Won't Start
Thanks to Keith I was able to wire in a push button starter and get my boat running again!!! She had a hard time starting since it had only been run once back in the beginning of June so it still had fogging oil in the carbs but it finally started up and ran strong for 15 minutes in the driveway (that gunk leaked out the exhaust but you'll have that from a motor that hasn't run hardly at all since last Fall). Hoping to go out next weekend for the Fall bite here in New England .

LV 500 Doubles Up!!
That's just awesome! I finally broke down and bought a few myself after resisting for almost the entire summer but finally I got 1 Ghost Minnow, 1 Gold Shiner and 1 Mad Craw .

Setting Up Curado DC
I used to do this for every different lure I'd tie on I'd adjust the spool tension knob until I got a slow drop and it gently touched down on the ground with no overrun. Then somebody said that's the wrong way and you should just set the tension knob until there's a slight side to side play and leave it regardless of the bait being used and just use your thumb for added braking.

Setting Up Curado DC
Isn't this limiting the reels performance though? I understand what you're saying and I used to do this when first learning casting reels but I thought it sort of retards the performance and to get maximum performance you need to adjust until barely a little play in the spool?

Shimano SLX quality
For $99 you're not going to find a better reel than the SLX! I have two and they are nothing but quality...typical Shimano. I also have a couple of Tatula's CT Type-R and SV...both are excellent reels as well but they do have a larger profile than the SLX but I don't mind as it's just different not necessarily better or worse. The SLX is also VERY compact so it's easily palmable. I had a Lew's Tournament Pro before and liked it as well but for the money I'd go with the SLX, just my opinion. Something I like too is that Shimano and Daiwa own there manufacturing plants and oversee every aspect of their rods and reels being built and quality control is top priority...all of the other reel makers farm their manufacturing out (Lew's is actually made by a Korean company called Doyo). This isn't to say that Abu, Lews, Quantum etc. don't have good reels too but...I just like the thought of Daiwa and Shimano having such control over the quality of their products!
