  1. Hard pass on the Megabass...not in the budget. My choice is stick with the 6'6" Berkley Lightning Rod Shock or get the Shimano Exage or possibly a 6'10" SLX rod if it's on sale somewhere. I really can't afford much more than the $80 if I chose to buy another rod so looking for deals or stick with the LRS and spend my money on other things is the current dilemma.
  2. What size though? Believe it or not the lure size ratings on the medium LRS and the MH Exage are the same...1/4oz. - 3/4oz.
  3. Okay, so I have a Berkley Lightning Rod Shock 6'6" Medium (and I'm assuming a Fast tip but Berkley doesn't list it on the rod) casting rod that I was thinking of pairing with my Shimano SLX 6.3:1 for a jerkbait setup but for some reason I just can't quite get out of my mind that a better rod would be more beneficial. I see TW has the Shimano Exage on sale for $79.97 plus with the coupon code you get $5 off so it's down to $74.97 and i was looking at the 6'10" MH/F...is it worth it to pull the trigger on that rod or should I take my blinders off and give the LRS rod a chance?
  4. At least they don't talk back...lol.
  5. All I can tell you so far is how dang sexy this setup looks. This rod and reel look made for each other both looks and color scheme wise. The rod looks fantastic, chrome lettering and almost a high definition holographic gray wrap around the blank. The rod looks great and is SUPER lightweight, I mean this rod is light as a feather and feels fantastic in hand with the skeletal grip. Hopefully I'll be able to test both rod and reel soon...stay tuned!!!
  6. I think this is a niche market! I'm sure these are nice boxes but at these prices they are most likely only selling to tournament guys and not weekend warriors and since the weekend warriors make up a much larger percentage of anglers across the country the plain, waterproof and rustrictor boxes will most likely outsell these boxes 2 or even 3 to 1 IMO.

  8. Well, came into a little extra cash this week and wouldn't you know it, was driving past my local tackle shop today and they had sale signs on the lawn and door so i stopped in. Ended up walking out with a new Daiwa Tatula SV 7.3:1 left hand reel and a Daiwa Tatula XT 7ft Medium/Fast casting rod for $254. They had 20% off both the rod and reel so got the reel for $160 (saved $40) and the rod for $80 (saved $20). Can't wait to try them out. would like to get into dock skipping and this setup should help ?.
  9. You sure? Yeah, it'll accept that code but when you get to the checkout it shows that it took "$0.00" off your order...at least that's what it did to mine.
  10. I see where most people recommend starting out skipping with spinning setups and work their way up to casting setups...good advice?
  11. Okay, so I was going to try dock skipping for the first time with my new Curado DC but when I spooled it yesterday I put 65lb. braid on it and mounted it on my Dobyns Fury 735c frog/jig rod...can I still skip docks with this setup? Should I add a 20lb. mono leader?
  12. I've ordered stuff from them before with great success. They're definitely a reputable company in my opinion!
  13. Academy Sports is having a 1 Day Flash Sale, 25% off reels (both spinning and casting)!!! If you're looking to get a new reel this is the day to do it at Academy.
  14. What size spinner blade does a Maracker have? I'm going to make my own with a Booyah Pad Crasher and just wondered what size blade i should use?
  15. How long are your leaders?
  16. Okay, I have the Medium Light/Fast spinning rod and reel. What line would you use? Braid to mono/fluoro leader? I have some Trokar light wire 2/0 drop shot hooks. What size weights for 30ft to 3ft depth? Any help would be appreciated!
  17. Yes, Dobyns said rod was available.
  18. I thought this to be true as well but found out recently that it's not...at least not on everything! I was interested in a certain Dobyn's rod that they were out of stock on. They had a restock date of June 17th so on June 18th I called them and asked if they had gotten any more in and they replied that they hadn't and again, said the restock date is a date given to them by the vendor and not etched in stone. They suggested that I call Dobyn's and see when they would be shipping out their restock orders so I did just that. Come to find out after speaking with Dobyn's TW had never placed a reorder for that rod meaning the re-stock date was a completely made up farce (hard to get a re-stock date if you never placed the re-stock order to begin with). I told the lady I spoke with at Dobyn's about this and that TW suggested I call them to see when the re-stock order would be fulfilled. She said TW does this all the time, pulls re-stock dates out of a hat and posts them on their site then places the blame on the vendor for not shipping their new re-stock order after the date has passed...making the vendor appear to be the one holding up the process when in fact they've never placed one to begin with! Food for thought.
  19. Man, EVERYWHERE has these reels on clearance! I'm thinking Shimano must be about to announce a new replacement model and they're trying to get these off peoples shelves post haste :).
  20. Soooo...if you don't use bug spray and only use your Thermacell sparingly what do you do to keep the bugs away...just yell at them "go away" .
  21. 6th Sense lures are IMO some of the best looking lures on the market! Their paint jobs are 2nd to none (again, my opinion). If I were just starting out with them I'd probably go with the Curve 55 line and from there to the Movement 80x for shallow crakin'.
  22. The only thing that bothers me is looking at the reel seat it looks like your fingers will be holding onto threads...that would be uncomfortable.
