  1. Looking for a new drop shot rod and have never had a St. Croix so I'm looking at the Triumph 7ft. Medium Light/Fast spinning rod, anybody have anything to say about it good or bad?
  2. eBay is cheaping out by pushing this eBay bucks crap...a lot of people don't care for this as they don't buy enough to make it useful! Come on eBay...bring back the 20% off site-wide coupon codes!!!
  3. Okay, probably another silly question but is it fine to install an anchor lock and deploy the anchor on the same side as which the bow mounted trolling motor is facing (i.e. - trolling motor as shown in the attached document is going left to right with prop hanging over edge on the right). In the document I attached I'm showing the place of the anchor lock which is hypothetical as I haven't installed it yet, the previous boat owner used to deploy the anchor on the opposite side (left side of boat) below the trolling motor but there isn't any room for the anchor lock on that side. I don't like drilling holes in my boat so I want to make sure I install this thing in the correct location. Thanks in advance for any help answering my inane ramblings . Boat.docx
  4. Yup, already have the 3/8" 100ft. braided anchor line. If the chain isn't necessary for my boat I'll just attach the rope directly to the anchor...would make using the Scotty Anchor Lock more simple.
  5. Does a small aluminum fishing boat (16.5 ft.) need an anchor chain? I bought one for my new 15lb. tri-fluted river anchor but I'm going to get one of those Scotty anchor locks so it's easier to deploy and pull up the anchor so that even my wife could do it and whenever you see those in pictures it never shows an anchor chain, just the anchor line attached direct to the anchor. Of course if a chain is necessary I'd do it and just pull up until the chain comes to the anchor lock and lift the anchor into the boat.
  6. What is the necessary amount of drag you should have for froggin'? I've seen some guys use reels with 11-12lbs. and I've seen some guys use reels with 15 - 20lbs. of drag. It stands to reason if you latch on to a big girl around 6 or 7lbs. and you're dragging almost that amount of slop/pads etc. with her that you'd want a higher amount of drag on your reel. What's your take?
  7. Yup, if you try to force people to do something instead of giving them options they tend to resist and take their business elsewhere, i know i do ?.
  8. And that was limited to certain items...not sitewide. I know MANY people are seriously annoyed with how bad eBay's sales have been this year. I know, they want to push their new "eBay Bucks" program but dang, give your customers a choice. Some people would rather just have that 15, 20, 25, 30% off sitewide coupon. They are definitely pi@$ing a lot of people off with this no coupon code B.S.
  9. Call Dobyn's Rods and speak to their customer service rep...they have lot's of refurbished (either gently used or new with minor defect) Fury and Colt rods (maybe other models as well) they just haven't had time to put on their web site for sale...$85 shipped for Fury and $65 shipped for Colt. I know I just got my Fury 735C a week ago and it looks brand new, carry's the same warranty as one of their new rods as well!
  10. I plan on getting the braided rope (not the plastic twisted kind...that kills my hands) and in fact some even say they're double-braided. I just changed from a 10lb. mushroom anchor (which I think are almost useless as they don't really catch on anything to hold you in position) to a 15lb. tri-fluted river anchor.
  11. I have a 16.5 ft. aluminum v-hull fishing boat, what size/thickness anchor line should i use? I'm looking at 3/8" and 1/2" and most places the 1/2" is more than double the price of the 3/8"...if it's justified I'd go 1/2" but if for my size boat the 3/8" would work just fine I would like to save some money.
  12. For the money you can't beat a Dobyns Fury 735C IMO. If you call Dobyns directly they even have like-new refurbs for $85 shipped. You just can't beat that but again it's just my opinion and I'm on a budget, if money is no object I'm sure there are much better rods out there.
  13. I love my Fury 734C. Of course I don't have the money for the Sierra series so maybe that's partially why I like my Fury so much but overall I just think it's hard to beat for $120 (it's even harder to beat when you get an almost new refurb direct from Dobyn's for $85).
  14. Go to their web site dobynsrods.com, either call them or email them. They have lots refurbs they just haven't had time to put on the web site yet
  15. What reel would be good paired up with a Medium casting rod for jerkbaits? I was thinking of using either my Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1 or my Shimano SLX 6.3:1...or should I use a higher speed reel?
  16. Would a Z-man Hula Stick have the same action?
  17. Okay, I've heard how great this sometimes overlooked bait is but as with a Yamamoto baits it isn't cheap and again as with all Yamamoto baits it probably isn't very durable. Is there another bait out there with the same fishing characteristics that is more durable? Or should I just suck it up and buy a couple packs of the Ika?
  18. I'm looking at this rod in the 7'6" Heavy/Fast... https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-graphite-series-muskie-casting-rod I know it says Muskie rod but I know some people use it for a budget swim bait rod as it says it can handle baits in the 2oz. - 10oz. range. Get this for $50 and a Daiwa Fuego CT for $75 and you should be set...at least this would give you a taste of fishing these bigger baits to see if you want to do it a lot and then you could upgrade at that point.
  19. The Daiwa is a good one but I'd also recommend a Shimano SLX.
  20. oh, i think you have to give them your email and sign up for their newsletter. Might be a 1 shot deal too, like on your 1st order.
  21. I just set up my new finesse rod & reel with 20lb Power Pro in moss green with an 8lb Maxima Ultra Green leader.

  23. Okay, we have all had a fish break off at the boat before and as heartbreaking as it is how many of us would or actually have done what this guy does...https://www.facebook.com/uniladmag/videos/420892278710260/. I'm not sure if i could think AND react fast enough but kudos to this dude, he did us Bass brother's proud .
  24. that's a sale price...no need to sign up for a news letter but you can and get 20% off any order over $100...not sure if you could stack that with this sale though but you could call them and ask...they're super nice to deal with!
