I can get this rod from a local guy for about $100. It's in excellent condition (or so he says). I've looked it up and it appears this is a 7ft. Heavy/Fast rod with a lure rating of 1/4oz. - 3/4oz. My question to anybody who has this particular rod is how do you like it? Is it a technique specific rod or a versatile rod that can be used for multiple techniques? Does it fish to it's rating? Is $125 (or less if i can haggle him down) a good price for this rod in the condition he says it's in? I've always wanted a G Loomis rod but they've always been way beyond my price range and this is the first one that I could conceivably afford.

Not really sure, will probably be a utility reel used for a little bit of everything until i decide a specific technique for it. I have my frog/topwater reel in a Daiwa Tatula CT Type-R (8.1:1), I have my all-everything reel in a new Shimano Curado DC (7.4:1), my older all-everything reel a Shimano Curado I (7.3:1) and my new crankbait reel a Daiwa Fuego CT (6.3:1). Maybe I could use the SLX (or Lew's) as a finesse reel on a Medium rod.

I actually kind of do...lol. I know some people think it's too gaudy but I don't think that bothers me as much.

Who ya' got and why? I'm trying to finish updating my reel arsenal and this is an interesting decision. The SLX is holding steady at about $99 while I can get the Tournament MB off eBay for just $5 more at $104.95. The SLX version I'd want is the 6.3:1 while the Lews is 6.8:1.

You are 100% correct about the PM's, blocking a name/web site etc. on the main boards is fine but a PM is just that...a private message between 2 members and what's said between those 2 members is private and therefore the name filters should not be in effect...totally agree about that!!!

Read the rules, they're only like 84 pages, shouldn't take that long . As the mods and Glenn are fond of saying, if you don't like the rules you are free to leave this site and go find another message board. I personally think the rules and regs are overboard but I enjoy this site so I try my best to abide by them even if sometimes it's REALLY hard too .

The thing is I trust them, they don't push products, they just give honest opinions on rods/equipment they use. take that for what it's worth. They like many different rods, reels etc. so I personally don't think they're pushing one brand over the other but that's just my take!

Mine are all 5/16oz., figured I'd take the middle-ground :).

Call Dobyns Rod Store...I literally just spoke to them yesterday and they have a refurbished Fury 705CB for $80 shipped to your door. The guy at Dobyns said it looked almost new and it comes with the same warranty as a new rod. You can't beat that deal!

Just picked up a couple of these (Bone and Loon), do these fish just like every other WP...straight retrieve, vary the speed?

I think that may unfortunately be the case. Their past couple of years 12 Days of Christmas sale has become mostly a sale of the slow moving stuff they want to clear out before the new year. It's a shame but as you said there are MANY more options than TW available online!!!

Guess it's just an in-store deal, not online.

I just want to say that Mike @Siebert Outdoors makes some of the best looking jigs around. Check out the new batch of finesse Sniper jigs I just received from him today...they look sweet!!! Thanks a lot Mike and thanks for helping me come up with almost identical looking jigs to the two custom ones I wanted.

I have a 6'6" Medium Lightning Rod Shock from the last generation (with the split cork grips). I think I might look for a little bit better rod though.

Yup, found it! Looks like the best deals will be on the Strike King Red Eyed Shad lipless and all of the new 2019 Berkley topwater baits.

I've spoken to Bo several times and he seems like a really great guy, can't imagine how him and Glenn got sideways. Seems Glenn is a rules man, he likes lot's of them and he's gotten sideways with more than a few vendors out there...too bad, maybe if he relaxed a bit he could work things out better with potential site vendors. That's just my opinion, I've never spoken to Glenn personally so I don't really know him but I have Bo and like I said he seemed like a salt-of-the-earth type of guy that wouldn't knowingly violate rules. Just my .02!

I'm wondering what hook size you guys use with these? My order hasn't come yet but I got some Owner #1 twistlocks for them but now I'm wondering if i should have gotten bigger?
