  1. I had that happen today with my new pointer. I had just cast it without adjusting the brakes and was picking out a backlash. Once I had finished picking it out I moved about an inch foreward and a bass came up and swallowed it. I guess that he was just sitting there admiring the american shad paint job when dinner started to swim away. ;D
  2. 6lb P-line/6lb Vanish(both Shallow and Deep) 1/0 Extra Wide Gap(Both you never know when you will come across a brushpile in either.) 3/8oz (Deep) 1/4oz (Shallow) in the thinnest style avaliable, because it helps avoid snags My favorite lure of all time is the 6" Roboworm in Margarita Mutilator III. I go through 4-5 bags of these a month. Just texas rig them on the hook, or you can use them on a shakey head, but thats off topic.
  3. Yeah, I will be taking it down to Florida tomorrow to give it a real workout. I have been trying to get a DD down there for a while now, and I have some private lakes that I will try it in to get a better estimate of its total stregnths and weaknesses.
  4. I posted my unofficial review about a week ago http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199231829 this is my experiance with the ASR series, and all I can say is WOW. My next rod is already in the mail and should be here within the week.
  5. not to mention a nice shade of blue. But overall I would go with the president, and if Muddy reads this he will stand behind it 100% when I say that it is one amazing piece of hardware that will last you for years and years
  6. I would go and talk to them about sponsorships more than fishing, because they have obviously made it in the fishing world. They know more about the ins and outs of being sponsored and what they are looking for in an angler more than most people
  7. Bass may be fun to have, but in most states they are illegal, so be careful or go with an oscar because they act a lot like bass
  8. To quote Takehiro Omori "Just fish more, thats the only way to tell a fish is a fish and a log is a log"
  9. By far the best bait that I have found for grass carp that you can see is a Jitterbug. Grass carp love cicadas which is what a jitterbug looks like.
  10. I agree with microptus, if you buy one then you will love it. You hear people talk about boron shattering, but then again, all rods could explode if they get too cold. And so far I have seen no signs of brittleness in my midas.
  11. You have to be careful though, at 90 bucks you cant have just one ;D. After the first time fishing with mine I came back home and ordered another one I liked it so much.
  12. I had ordered the Pflueger Summit and the Rod at the same time, I got the reel but not the rod so I called and found out that the owner inspects each rod before he sends them out, and while he was checking mine he found that one of the guides was messed up so he held it back and ordered a new one from All Star. But the reel was double packaged with bubble wrap inbetween the two boxes. The rod came in a UPS triangle tube that was taped to death with about four layers of packing tape, and inside the box the rod was supported with cardboard support. The only thing is that they can choose to send it UPS or USPS, and that it takes 2-5 days to process the order. And dont worry about the 3 Day Select or UPS Ground option, if you check UPS's website it says that it takes the same amount of time to ship.
  13. www.all-americanoutdoors.com They have some great deals on rods and reels. I got a Pflueger Summit from there for 140 bucks, as opposed to BPS who has it for 160.
  14. I just got back from my second field test of the ASR series rod (6'9" Extra Fast Medium) from All Star, and I have to say, for 90 bucks this is one amazing rod. It has all of the sensitivity of the higher priced All Star Platinum, H&H HX4, and the Browning Midas. The entire rod is a deep green with a nice gloss finish, alconite guides, and a universal hook keeper. The 6'9" is listed as a topwater/spoon, and while it has a soft tip that is perfect for topwaters I decided to really test it and I put everything from 1/2oz spinnerbaits, 1/4oz bitsy bug jigs, DT 4-6, and texas rigs. While it was a little soft for a spinnerbait rod, and I lost some fish because of a poor hookset. It made a great finesse jig rod, crankbait rod and even a light texas rig rod, and I can easily see this rod a shakey head, drop shot, or jerkbait rod. Overall I would give it a 9.0 with its only real downfalls were that it is hard to do a two hand cast with a split grip, and that it would be better classed as a Moderate/Fast action. But speaking on behalf of the entire ASR series I love the one that I have and have already ordered my next one, a 6'10" spinning rod coming next week.
  15. I have a Supreme and would reccomend it over every other spnning reel that I have tried. It is light, fast, and has the smoothest drag that I have ever seen on a spinning reel.
  16. Albino Fluke Texas Rig- its just fun to fish aroung people who dont really know how to fish and are amazed at how you know the fish are biting without a bobber
  17. I just got my supreme last week and have broken it in already, and IMHO I think that it is the best spinning reel for the money. I have tried the high end shakespere (40$), and lower end shimano (40-50$) and some pinnacles, but the Supreme has smoother drag, lighter weight, and better overall casting and line twist control than all of them. I find that almost all Pfluegers are great for the cost.
  18. yes. Have you ever missed threading a guide after breaking off and tied a carolina rig before noticing (I missed the line guide on the REEL once )
  19. It may look pleasant there when I took it but just a few hours before it was pouring down rain and will start again in a few hours and is not supposed to stop till Sunday, but I was glad for my few hours of nice weather in between
  20. If only I had the money for the patriarch, and I haven't tried the asaro yet.
  21. Just 3 - Pflueger Trion - Pflueger Supreme - Pflueger Summit
  22. I would take a serious look at the top 3 Pflueger reels, the Summit, Supreme, or the Patriarch. I have not used the Patriarch, but my Summit and Supreme are amazing reels for the price and they feel great on every rod that I have from the Midas, All Star Platinum, H&H HX4, Bass Pro, and Rapala rods.
  23. Pflueger Summit Pflueger Supreme (Spinning) All Star Rod ASR 6'10" Spinning (Still in Mail) :'( All Star Rod ASR 6'9" Casting (Still in Mail) :'( 150 dollars worth of rapalas, jigs, and line The Office season 3 Call of Duty 4 (Xbox is still in my dorm) :'( oh and socks

  25. Went out today with one of my christmas presents, a Pflueger Supreme. It was around 50 degrees with wind blowing to the east at around 5-10 mph. The water was muddy and cold but I decided to try anyway. I started with a texas rig yammy Kreature, and after about 20min without a bite I decided to try a spinnerbait and on the first cast one swirled on it right as I went to pull it out of the water. So I figured that they might be active, but not wanting something with too much flash so I tied on a shallow no7 shad rap and started seining the few stumps in the pond with it. After a few casts near the stumps I realized that the shad rap acting funny, and after looking at it I figured out that the knot placement on the tie determines how the lure runs. After cinching the knot to the top of the tie, giving it a wider wobble I made one cast back by the stumps cranked it down two turns and BAM this one hit, I know that its not big but it broke in my new Supreme.
