  1. No thats not the Varius at all **Wink**Wink**Nod**Nod** ;D
  2. I would like to actually catch fish on a rattle trap, I have like 7-8 of them but have never caught anything on them. Other than that it will be the same.
  3. If you look at the backgrounds of the SM/LM pics you will see that like 75% of the LM are in wood cover and 75% of the SM are in weeds. Dont know if that is of any meaning or not, its just interesting.
  4. Does anybody know where in SC there are any places to catch smallmouth from shore or from a kayak? Anywhere close to Columbia would be nice.
  5. I would like a 7-8lb largemouth (Florida here I come) To actually catch a Smallmouth Life: A 15+ Largemouth A 6+ Smallmouth A 5+ Spot
  6. I do perfectally fine with Berkley Vanish, I know that lots of people dont like it because they say that it breaks at the knot. As for the P-line Flurocarbon it feels the same to me as the Vanish. As with all the Fluro that I fish with the only problem that I have had with it was it breaking at teh knot, but that is easily fixed by wetting the line before you cinch the knot down. But for me Vanish is the best because it only costs 10 bucks
  7. How light is light 4lb test or 10lb Moderate would be better for 4-6lb test because it is more forgiving, and the fish would not break your line Fast would be better for 8-10lb because you can fish bigger lures that need more hook-setting power
  8. BASS did some research last lear during the tournaments where they tagged some caught fish and tracked them. Strangely most of the time the bass would go back to where they were caught from. Unless it is from somewhere farther than 5-10 mi then I guess that they would probably just find somewhere to live there.
  9. That nice feeling that you get when you tell your partner "theres one" and set the hook into a lunker stump. The snap of your partners dropshot rig breaking the sound barrier, and his line, and almost needing new underwear after realizing how close it came to you. And the Best of all: Knowing that you could have won the tournament if only you had that LC pointer in another color.
  10. X2 and at only 50 bucks you can have some money left over for the bait monkey

Im going to say that a 80 ft cast with a soft plastic should take about 5min to retrieve. And with a jig about 8-10min. In other words, if you fall asleep retrieving it your probably moving it slow enough ;D
  12. What is your preferred spending limit? because as spinning reels go you can pay almost anything for one, but you could get a nice one for around 30-40 bucks.
  13. Lots of depthfinders all have different ways of displaying the bottom, so I would just idle over some shallow water where you know what the bottom is so that you know what that type of bottom looks like. And the line under the main contour is usually just bedrock or mud

In a situation like that I would either use a dropshot or a small #9 or #11 Floating Rapala in silver and just swim it as slow as it will swim.
  15. You can have chlorine in the water and it not be harmful unless you drink it, but it will kill anything in the water. Think swimming pools, you put chlorine tablets in it to kill bacteria.
  16. Makes me feel cold just looking at those pics. Those are some nice looking trout BTW and it reminds me that it has been years since I caught a trout. Oh and I think that we should see some more pics of the reel in the first pic there. ;D
  17. Well I hope that you get your creek back, even though I know that it will take a few years. For what it helps the pond in my avatar was poisoned 2 years ago, but it has been restocked and although they are not too big now they are all alive and healthy. I wish you and your creek the best.
  18. Dont let the names trick you. Almost any soft plastic can be effictively drop shotted. If its plastic and you can catch bass with it, then it will work on a drop shot.
  19. Well first off you need a more sensitive rod for plastics than for crankbaits. And sorry, but that USUALLY, but not necisarily, means spending a min. of 50 bucks. My first decent rod and reel that was sensitive enough for plastics was a 40$ Abu Conolon Premier spinning rod(7' M) and a 50$ Pflueger President spinning reel. Not saying that you have to have that, but it is a good price range for a start. Line- I prefer Flurocarbon for all my rods but it is expensive and a lot of people still like monofilament. As for where, anywhere that a crankbait would get snagged is where you can fish a worm. I would reccomend a 7" Green Pumpkin or Junebug worm Texas rigged with a Extra Wide Gap hook and a 1/4 - 3/8oz bullet weight for a start. Just cast near the brush, weeds, etc and slowly start to move your rod from pointing almost straight at the worm to a little less than straight up. Bites will range all the way from a sharp tug to your line moving off to the side. As you fish them you will come to understand better what is a fish and what is not. I think that this covers almost everything, and remember it will come with time and practice so dont give up.
  20. At the very least, be glad that you had a trophy bass creek, and I would be going after the city. Chlorine is extremely dangerous and is classified as a hazardous material, there should have been no way that the city let it get released like that.
  21. At least you could go around and find or plant some brushpiles for when spawning season comes
  22. What or where is Blues Creek :-?
  23. I really like it because I can slow down and concentrate better once I have a limit, also I have noticed that most often the coanglers that have fished in the same weekend series as me oftentimes dont bring in more than 3-4 fish anyways. PS: Which ones are you fishing in SC, because I might be fishing some too this year
  24. I have not tried the gambler weights, but I like tungsten for its sensitivity and compact size but you have to be willing to pay the price (literally) and you have to be willing to lose a few. As a compromise you could go with steel weights which are cheap, dont pollute the environment, and have near the same sensitivity as tungsten at the expense of size. As for pegging weights toothpicks in the weights pinch and weaken the line, so I usually go with a rubber band tied on to the line it, gives the a little wiggle room for the weight so there is not as much leverage for the fish to throw the hook and is easily avaliable and adjustable.
  25. If it is the rhino that I am thinking of (Wally World 20$) I would not worry about trying to replace it. The shipping or maintence alone would cost more than the rod itself.
