  1. Got a BPS magazine in the mail today about the spring classic. Looks like a lot of their lower-budget rods and reels are on sale. $50 for the Bps pro qualifier doesn't sound bad to me and $30 for a Berkley lightning rod doesn't either. I hear they're both good for the money, in case somebody is looking And a lot of baits are marked down and it looks like terminal tackle and monofilament line is 25-50% off or more too. Not really seeing anything that is a killer deal from the looks of the magazine but there are probably some deals if you really look in the store
  2. Just wondering how early in advance you rig up your plastics before a trip. On the water or a couple days before? Also, is it any harm if I rig up 1 - 2 days prior to a trip and store the rods in my garage? Will the scents affect how the baits work or will they lose their action if they sit a while out of the bag?
  3. If I had to start with 10 and branch out: 1. Bag of 5'' Yum dingers in watermelon/red flake because they work everywhere 2. Bag of Berkley bottom hoppers in Junebug because you can fish it faster than a weightless dinger (with a 1/8 oz. weight on the bottom hopper) 3. 6" zoom lizards in black grape Or green pumpkin because they're versatile (hop it for finicky fish and swim it for active ones) 4. 1/8 oz. blue fox vibrax in gold or silver because it will catch fish anywhere (bass, trout, panfish, etc) 5. Crappie jigs, 1/16 or 1/8 oz. in white because it will catch fish anywhere 6. KVD 2.5 in sexy shad or bluegill (natural bream?) because it's tough to beat this in a pond with a lot of rocks 7. Bomber square a (or other small squarebill ) in sexy shad because it might get bit when the 2.5 won't 8. 3/16 oz pond magic or mini king spinnerbait in white because it fishes better than the squarebills around weeds and snags 9. Rebel Pop r or magnum Pop R in black/silver back because it's hard to beat on a summer evening 10. Bill Lewis rat l trap, 1/4 oz, in the classic chrome and blue back because it can work when the other hardbaits wont as you can probably tell, I fish a ponds and small lakes. These lures let me cover the top, middle, and bottom really well
  4. 4'' or 5'' senko on t-rig. Toss it into any "cubbies" you can along the bank or right around structure
  5. This Interesting idea, cgolf. Please keep us posted with your results
  6. Looks like Sportsman's guide has GYCB senkos on sale for 4.89 a bag. not sure about color or size but maybe this will help somebody out
  7. I like the 1/16 oz popper on a fly rod. Good for bluegill and perch
  8. Plano Guide series can hold 6 - 7 boxes (3600) and built like a tank. Plus made in America
  9. This. Learned the hard way with my fly rod
  10. For me: 1. My dad and/or grandpa. I'm really fortunate that I still have both and they're still fishing. But I'd trade the world to go catch some crappie or bass in a farm pond with them. Best thing in the world in my opinion. 2. My old 6' ML Daiwa combo. It was a door prize that somebody won and gave me a long time ago. It's still my favorite setup (new reel though) and I have the slimy and blood-stained cork on it to prove it 3. Simple: SLOW DOWN
  11. Knowing what you've learned about bass fishing for however long you've been doing it, please answer these questions (all hypothetical, no right/wrong answer): 1. Who is the one person you would take fishing with you or take again (alive or past)? 2. What's 1 rod/reel setup you would start with (around $150)? 3. What's 1 piece of advice you'd give yourself?
  12. When I go canoeing, I take a Cabelas bag that holds 4 3500 boxes, about 8 bags of plastics, a small box for finesse stuff, a small box for more hardbaits, and all my fishing tools. i might take a lunch bag or something too, but I rarely bring any other tackle unless I'm fly fishing too
  13. Small hook (real small, like size 10 or so) and a chunk of night crawler, grub, bread, or other bait. Rig with a little weight and put it under a bobber and you're set Small hook (real small, like size 10 or so) and a chunk of night crawler, grub, bread, or other bait. Rig with a little weight and put it under a bobber and you're set
  14. Zoom lil critter on light t rig
  15. Live bluegills work well in my lakes for bass, catfish, and freshwater stripers
  16. Is it very easy to cast? I ask because I have difficulty cast little 'pond magic' spinnerbaits (1/8 oz) on my 6'6'' M/MF, even with a 3'' grub trailer
  17. Cool. Do you mind telling me wht you used for the finish? A buddy of mine sometimes uses gunstock finish and his projects end pretty good looking with it
  18. I've had the same issue, though very inconsistently. I've found that it happens when I use lighter braid (20 - 30) and I whipping the rod hard and choppy for a series of casts (getting sloppy basically). I think that it is, in my experience, a problem in my technique. Once it starts happening, I start slowing down and taking more fluid casts and the problem stops.
  19. Beautiful. How long did it take you ?
  20. 1. Squarebill on rip rap 2. 4" senko on a t rig 3. Popper (rebel is my favorite) 4. Lizard or brush hog on t rig 5. 4 3/4" or 6" straight tail worm on light t rig or shakyhead
  21. Can I ask where these kits are at? I'd like to take a look
  22. If you have to have something: 6 foot MH/F spinning combo, spoiled with 15 - 20 pound mono or 30 - 50 pound braid throw anything from senkos to brush hogs to frogs into that cover
  23. I like the cheap spinnerbaits from cabelas and gander mountain (like $1.69 each). I have one from cabelas that is one of my favorites But I like bargain-bin spinnerbaits too. I have a 1/8 oz. bomber bushwhacker that I've gotten more fish om than any of my other spinnerbaits. Paid $1.39 for it last summer
