  2. I agree with you that most largemouth bass are not very picky when it comes to fishing line. I recently caught a +7 pound, 24 inch bass on a 100 pound test mono leader as bycatch while fishing for big snook. I use this heavy line since snook ( especially the big ones) have a sharp gillplate that can easily cut smaller sized lines. Have also caught other bass with very thick mono leaders or wire leaders while targeting other species. Well said
  3. Come to Florida and you will see lots of grassy lakes, ponds, rivers, etc. Many of these lakes are full with hydrilla, sawgrass, cattails, maidencane, lily pads, spatterdock, and other aquatic vegetation. Weedless lures ( such as Texas rigged soft plastics and hollow belly frogs) work very well in these places.
  4. Far enough to catch bass under tree limbs, docks, man made structures, etc
  5. It would be best to buy a digital scale along with a tape measure and always bring it with you on your fishing trips. That way you will know for certain how much a bass weighs.

It would be best to buy a digital scale along with a tape measure and always bring it with you on your fishing trips. That way you will know for certain how much a bass weighs. Most of the 5-5.5 pounders I have caught are somewhere around 20-22" inches in length, the bass you showed in this picture appears to be less than 20" so I would say your bass should be above 3.0 pounds but under 4.5.
  7. Congratulations to Mrs. Roberts for catching a 9 pound, 15 ounce trophy bass from public waters from land. Most men will spend their whole lifetime bass fishing and never catch a bass of this size.
  8. I fish at night often for both freshwater and saltwater species of fish. Have caught some of my biggest bass at night. Well said
  9. Good subject. I cherish every single minute I get to fish and never take it for granted.
  10. I learned another lesson this month. Snook will bite a hollow belly frog just like a bass will and the fight a snook gives on a frog is much more powerful than what a bass can do. I now see myself snook fishing with frogs and it will have to be a very big bass to keep me interested in bass fishing at this moment in time.

  12. Congratulations on your new pb bass
  13. Glad to hear that you got proper treatment and you are taking care of your health. Looking towards to hearing reports of your fishing trips.
  14. Thank you for your report. The bass fishing is on fire in the Everglades right now since the water level is dropping and its every easy to catch +50 bass in 1 day if a person wanted to.
  15. The closest I fish from home is a canal that is less than 200 feet from my house. This canal has very good fishing for largemouth bass, peacock bass, snook, tarpon, and many other fish. I can easily get comfortable and just fish this canal, but I like to travel for fishing. With that said, I often make long drives to reach some awesome spots I have. I also travel out of state to catch fish on my fishing bucket list and will continue doing it( I caught muskies, smallies, palomino trout, etc last year on some of my travels and got other out of state fishing trips coming up this year).

  19. As many cast as I need to throw depending on the conditions. Sometimes I only cast 1-2 times in 1 spot and move on, other times I cast for several hours if I feel I have a good chance at catching a big one.
  20. Yes Sir he's the best of the best when it comes to country music. Second for me would be Garth Brooks and third Shania Twain.
  21. Last month I learned how to effectively wade fish for spotted seatrout from land in South Florida. They like jigs just like snook and bass do, so they are fun to catch.

  23. Almost every canal and lake system in the Miami area is loaded with peacock bass so you should have a good time if you fish there. The Blue Lagoon area can be fished from land and many people catch +5 pounders from land there. Hiring a guide is not needed for peacock bass, they are everywhere and are easy to catch, just like most smallmouth and largemouth bass. The exceptions is catching a trophy peacock bass (+5 pounds is what I consider a trophy peacock bass in South Florida, and anything over 18 inches is a big one) or fishing for peacock bass when the water temperatures drop to the low 60's, and even then you still can catch a big peacock bass when its cold (have done it several times). As for prop baits, they are good lures for peacock bass when they are actively feeding or getting a reaction bite of them when the conditions are right. I like using the heddon tiny torpedo for peacock bass when they are chasing baitfish near the surface and I use 8 pound test mono for it. As for color, anything will work as long as you present the lure well. Make sure to have a good, smooth drag system in your reel since peacock bass are much stronger pound for pound than a largemouth or smallmouth bass of equal size. Even a river smallmouth bass of equal size cannot compare pound for pound to a healthy peacock bass.
