  1. If casting distance is important and you are not running into a lot of snags, I would recommend suffix nanobraid or berkley nanofil. These are kind of pricey lines but they do not need to be changed like mono and you can also use a lot of cheap backing to minimize the amount of the good line you use. Nothing will out cast these two lines!!
  2. The Abu Veracity is on sale for $69.99. Pretty nice rod for that price point.
  3. To me the rods don't feel very similar when playing around with them in the store. I think the avid x is a much more refined rod, but others may think differently. I cannot say exactly why I think that, they just seem like completely different rods.
  4. Personally I don't think you want to go with a moderate rod, especially if you are fishing grubs jigs like many smallmouth people do. A 7'0" MF action would be my choice.
  5. I guess mine isnt too blasphemous but I just bought an Avid X medium fast for crankin'. I just cant do the moderate action rods...
  6. I mean 30 is going to be better for walleye and bass, but will not be as good for the cats and steelhead. All this is IMO of course.
  7. 35 will be fine for everything. But you dont see a size 35 for walleye too often (usually 30). However it will work just fine.
  8. Pretty much. However the avid x seems like a much more refined rod than avid when I mess around with them.
  9. I dont think the $70 is worth the jump from the mojo to the avid but to the avid X then its more debatable.
  10. Hey guys, Thanks for the info!!
  11. The rod has not been stored bent for a long period of time nor been exposed to excessive heat. Perhaps it was due to St. Croix and I was just not diligent enough when I received the rod. I will see what Croix has to say I guess.
  12. Well I threw out the MHMF just because of the crankbaits. If they were going to be the main lure on this rod, then I would go with the MHMF. Now if you do decide to go this route, the braid will help cover up the more moderate action and make it fish a little faster.
  13. Well I think it was storing it in the rod cover or always having something tied on and hooked up to the keeper. However, there was never any tension. Yeah. Mine is a ML spinnging rod. 6'10"...so I dont think its the weight.
  14. Yeah, that would be a good all around rod, or if you are planning on using braid you could go with the spinnerbait rod like Robert stated above. Edit: And I think that would be a great starter rod and reel!
  15. So I am hoping somebody can give me some advice. I have a 2016 Legend Elite and I noticed this past week that it is slightly bent in the upper end of the rod. This is caused by me and not by st.croix. Anyway, a person I trust told me I could I could hang it by the tip to straighten it out. Will this work? Could it damage the rod? I don't think the rod being bent will effect its performance, its just paranoia thing. Any advice is much appreciated!
  16. I will shortly be ordering a 7'1" MHF Mojo bass and a 7'0" MF Avid X. The avid x is going to have a BB1 on it and I will sometime get a Curado for the mojo bass...but it will remain reel less for awhile.
  17. Honestly, Im not really sure. I got it late last fall...But it sure feels like it should be fun!
  18. Here are the two rods I have up at school with me. On top is a 6'2" avid with a lews tourney pro and on the bottom is one of walleye, crappie, and finese rods. A 6'6" Light Poison Adrena with a 1000 CI4+. Just about everything is opened up around here and then tonight we got snow and cold...bring on the spring!
  19. Im not really sure but you may want to say which models you are comparing (avid, premier, etc.) just so people can chime in easier. And perhaps do the same with dobyns
  20. Well I will give you my experience. I have a custom made Loomis walleye rod on an IMX blank and do not care for it at all. I like my St.Croix's much better. With that being said, you are probably looking at the new IMX's and I haven't seen or fished one of those.
  21. Not sure why it is sideways, but this from the morning we were leaving LOTW in August 2016. Love this pic. Lots of awesome pictures in this thread!
  22. An avid UL with a Ci4+ is tough to beat in the UL department. Wouldnt get rid of mine for anything.
  23. Well I said extreme and meant Elite, DOH. But I always love comparing rods! haha Isn't the mlxf just an awesome rod??
  24. Well, I have the 610mlfx legend extreme (2016) and my dad has the 6'3"mlfx LTB and he likes LTB better because of the split grip. I don't think it would be a huge difference in sensitivity. From what I remember when I used his rod briefly, there was not much difference other than I like the longer rod!
  25. Another advantage of the gore fiber is that it doesn't absord water like braid can, therefore it will not freeze for the walleye guys that are fishing when its cold. Just something that I've heard. Please correct me if I am mistaken!
