  1. Out of the 5-6 mojos that I have handled at work none of them do this. It could be that the Bass Pro employees mishandled, it also possible that St.Croix just made a couple mistakes and that Bass Pro unfortunately received them.
  2. A crankbait rod with a moderate fast action. Really can't stand the true moderate action I have. And also an all purpose MHF rod at the same time
  3. With those weights probably medium. I would look at St.Croix LTB or Avid X.
  4. Have never used a scheels rod but have their warranty is excellent. With that being said, I heard that they were going to quit doing the no questions asked replacements (not sure if they actually have stopped doing that. I would not be surprised if they did stop that program though. If you buy their $200 rod and break it in a car door I don't think it should be replaced for free. Best to contact your local scheels. If you ever make it over to Waterloo, Hanks has that program with St.Croix rods. If you break and its your fault, walk into the store and for 60-70 bucks you walk out with a new rod that day provided they have it in store.
  5. Mostly Whitetail for me as well. Late season which runs till Jan. 10 here in Iowa and then bow hunting the rut. Do some pheasant too but not as much as we used to. Between fishing, deer hunting, and golf Im pretty much full on the schedule with school too!
  6. You could split the difference and get the new president xt. Basically a lighter version of the president. But where I work, the president is the best selling reel in the store by far. A great reel for 60$
  7. I mainly fish for walleyes and have used a 6'0" rod up until last year. Last year I got a 6'10" rod and much prefer the length of it to the 6'0" rod. If I am pitching jigs (which I do fairly often) it makes it nice. It also helps maneuver around the motor when I am in the back of the boat and helps control fish at the boat. I will never go back too shorter rods for my walleye fishing.
  8. You can use that rod for jigs and such it just will not be ideal. Using braid will help cover up the moderate-fast action if used for jigs. I just ordered that rod from my local tackle shop and plan on using it for jigs although not primarily for jigs.
  9. I have a 7'0" MHF E6X. While a like the rod, I am not reaching for it as my first choice. The sensitivity did surprise me but something about the rod just seems off a little..can't really put my finger on it. That being said I cannot recommend the rod but I also cannot not recommend the rod if that makes any sense??
  10. It will have a bigger impact than the line probably. You are using the rod essentially like a whip and if the the rod doesn't load like it will not with a 1/32oz jig then you are not getting the restoring force of the rod to impact the cast. This is all considering if you are using like a medium powered rod. A light rod is probably okay. Oh, and if you get a big bite on a 1/32oz jig the line is not going to be a liable as the jig coming out of the mouth.
  11. I just placed an order that exact rod. 7' MH Mod-fast for the exact same applications. Should be good for that.
  12. Yeah it should make a significant distance provided you are using an UL rod.
  13. On the blank by where the description is of the rod is, it should have told you SCII or SCIII if it was SCII it was the older model and if it said SCIII it was newer model. And in the 2017 St.Croix catalog all the mojos are at least $130. Now, I went to st.croix's website and it showed mojos for $120, but when I went to the 2017 catalog via their website, I saw $130 for mojos.
  14. I have the bass angler (i think) guidewear and it is awesome. Not getting wet in that stuff...
  15. I prefer braid with no leader unless around rocks. If you are fishing rocks then I you could add a leader or just go with flouro/yo-zuri. I also like braid for cranks because you can literally feel everything and Im not too worried about the lack of stretch on a spinning rod with trebles.
  16. Are you sure they changed the president? I know they released the XT but didn't think they also changed the president? I think the only reel they "upgraded" was the patriarch with the patriarch in the process.
  17. I realize you didn't ask about a moderate rod, But unless you are specifically throwing cranks stay away from the moderate! (I think you will, just an observation) I just ordered a mojo bass 7" MHMF rod. I am hoping it is closer to fast than moderate however. I happen to think a ML would be better for you than a medium...but its your choice.
  18. I only say that because I am a college student...otherwise no such blasphemy would be spoken
  19. Well I am partial to St.Croix rods because the place I work sells a lot of them and I can get good deals on them. If I had to buy most of my rods at retail I would probably stick with St.Croix and Dobyns. Haven't used a dobyns but curiosity is killing the cat. Reels: I am slowly turning into a Lew's guy. Had a revo s gen 3 and hated it. It got replaced with a Lews. Want to try a Daiwa Tatula type R and a Curado 70 but have no reason to buy any more reels.
  20. I use a St.Croix Avid UL. I would recommend the St.Croix panfish series if you want an awesome crappie rod!
  21. 7'0"+ and something MHF if St.Croix or Abu, if any other brand something HF. St.Croix and Abu tend to run a little heavier; ie a st.croix medium is gonna fish a little heavier than a Loomis or Dobyns medium. At least that is the generally accepted rule of thumb and I have found that to be true.
  22. I would like to know also. Just curious, do not have any "harsh feelings" for this comment...
  23. For a frog rod you dont need anything sensitive so I would look at the Bass X, however if you are looking for multi-purpose then I would go with the new mojo. My mojo is being ordered
  24. Suffix Nanobraid has been better for me than nanofil. Only tired it on spinning though.
  25. Are you sure you didn't have the older model mojo? The new mojos are 130$ and I think the bass x rods top out at 100$ but I could be wrong.
