  1. Which one do you wear?
  2. So your saying it's warm enough to shovel the sidewalk, but falls short when running wide open down the lake?
  3. Trying to avoid the "M" word... But what's everyone wearing as face/neck protection from the cold and wind? Looking for something warm, and vented to prevent lense fogging. Anyone try the Fish Monkey Yeti? Thanks!
  4. I'll be picking up the lowrider during black friday. I've heard great things about the Expert but I just bought an engagement ring, so I'm pinching pennies lol.
  5. Yep, the 7'4 H Bucoo is a workhorse for me. I had thought about just getting another one, specifically for frogs, but when I found the lowrider with a shorter handle I decided I'd give it a try.
  6. Thinking about one of these as a frog rod. Mostly for the shorter handle, and because the blank on my 7'4 H Bucoo handles flippin and froggin without breaking a sweat. Thoughts?
  7. I second that. I got to fish in Texas once. It was 43°F raining and blowing. They didn't see to be too fond of those conditions. Guess I'll just have to watch the pros whack on 'em at Texasfest later this week.
  8. That surprises me. The one I have was so stiff in the tip it basically recoiled ?
  9. 1. I tried the same green rod and hated the action. Maybe I got a bad blank but the thing just wouldn't load. You can have mine for the price of shipping! 2. You could throw a frog on a 734, but I'd be hesitant to tangle with a big one in heavy cover. Love that rod for a buzzbait or jig. Can't speak on the 735. 3. Currently frogging with the Falcon BuCoo 7'4 H/F. I think they call it a heavy cover jig rod, but it's handled frog duty for me just fine. Very reasonable price tag ($110) but depending on your location, can be tough to find in store. Also available in a 7'0 H/F.
  10. Sounds like growing pains to me. The good news is learning usually means improving. I'm not saying going into debt on fishing gear will make you a better angler, but fine tuning your angling approach is a process and involves some trial and error. Luckily, info is readily available these days so I always try and research before I buy. I have rods and reels, terminal tackle, lures, lines etc. that collect dust, but when I first purchased them I thought they were the bees knees. I simply outgrew it. Nothing wrong with the stuff, and I try to keep it around to help the next new angler that I run into to help save them a few bucks in their process. Just a side note on the fluorocarbon... If it's a main line on a spinning reel I would stick with smaller diameter. Generally 6-8# for me. Also make sure your knots are tied properly. I nearly swore off the stuff after a series of break offs, but a little practice and experimenting with my knots was the solution to that issue.
  11. Thanks, Mike. That sounds like Lake Erie. She gets nasty in a hurry. Everyone I've known to go out on their own says there's lots of dead water, but it all looks good. I'll try and dig up your guide thread and get the conversation started. Appreciate it. Rob
  12. Good evening! Have a family friend building in the Jupiter area, and an open invite to visit. I'm curious: 1.) Would February offer fish in all phases of the spawn? 2.) Would you suggest a guide for a first timer on the Big O?... If so, any particular service? Much thanks!
  13. Cautiously optimistic that next years college football season will allow us to travel to Stillwater and Norman. Looking for suggestions on a lake to target in central/northeast Oklahoma during the trip. Thanks!
  14. Yep. I'm on the turnpike right now and the car says 45.
  15. Such a simple solution... Thanks.
  16. I'm in western PA. You're probably getting what I had!
  17. Looking for a suggestion for a topwater walking bait. Using the rebel jumping minnow and looking for a similar profile in black and a ghost/translucent color. Suggestions?
  18. Where are you from? First real cold snap came through for me. Caught 20 yesterday, today is bluebird skies and cool air arrived. Still getting bit shallow but they're tight to cover. Trying to belly up to anything holding heat since the shallow water will cool quicker. Could be they moved to deeper water for you. I tend to have success if I can find brush piles in deeper water, near the shallow water this time of year. Any remaining vegetation shallow should hold some fish, but you might want to slow down and down size. Just a few thoughts.
  19. Anyone else ever notice or agree that Skeet Reese looks a lot like Ian Poulter?
  20. Is this stuff any good? And what have you used to compare it to? Thanks!
  21. Strike King Hack Attack? My best guess...
  22. Bottom up... Rage Bug Spinnerbait Frog
  23. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but do yourself a favor and get the brightest color line you can find. I use the PowerPro yellow in 15#. It will help you detect bites you may not feel. Fluoro leader will help to hide it from the fish.
  24. Well, my question was answered that no, I don't need to go and buy a load of "swim jigs" so when you get those rods made up, I'll take 2 of the Shimano (so my reels don't get angry, of course) ?
  25. Please convince me that I need to add swim jigs into my arsenal of tackle. To be more specific, jig head with a weed guard, skirt and plastic trailer. I throw spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, swimbait heads with plastics but no skirt, jointed structure heads, hybrid jigs, etc. These cover different depths and various cover, but I do not throw a true "swim jig". So, what makes a swim jig a must have when I have all of the above options at the ready?
