  1. I didnt like the body of the Chronarch ci4. I tried to like this frame but the way i palm my reels, its sharp lines didn't feel good in my hand. After fishing several times I got rid of my chronarch CI4. Same with the Chronarch MGL, since it has the same body. Other than the that, the reels preformed great. Cast smooth and retreived quitely. I still have two core 50's and two aldebaran mg7. Great reels that I'll probably never part with.
  2. The 3000 size has the T knob. The 2500 size has the small paddle knob. I have both sizes. I prefer the T knob myself.
  3. Of those three reels, i would chose the new steez tw. Probably the A model because it will balance better with the hvy action rod. I have owned all three you mentioned and the only one i kept is the conquest. But, like you, i only use it for slower presentations. The metanium should also be another option to consider. Actually, i prefer magnesium reels for my bottom contact rods. To me, they just feel more sensitive.
  4. Sweet. Let us know how that xtasy compares to other high end rods in that price range.
  5. Amazon will mainly offer lower paying jobs. But like most companies it will have to have a support group, therefore creating more jobs. It's a ripple effect. At the end of the day, a low paying job is better than no job.
  6. Calcutta 100D is my chatterbait reel. Can also double as a spinnerbait reel.
  7. I believe all the Calcuttas and Conquest are saltwater proof. In fact, that is where those reels originated from. Many people use them for saltwater fishing.
  8. Also, some reels are more sensitive to too much line on the spool. My Lews are more prone to backlash if I over fill them, as oppose to my shimanos.
  9. I consider polarized glasses part of my arsenal, like I would my rod and reels. I don't leave the dock without them. I have turned to boat around to go back and get them from the truck. Also, I have found that cheaper glasses work just as well as the more expensive ones. Just keep them clean and scratch free.
  10. It is not a high end rod, so I would not spend too much money on the reel. A Shimano Sedona or sahara in the 2500 size would be a good choice, since its a med/hvy rod.
  11. When you say catfish, that is a broad range. You have anything from small bullheads to large flatheads and blue cats. I am going to assume you are probably targeting mid size fish in the 2 to 10 lbs range. Most people target channel cats, which would fall into that size range. For a reel, if u want to stick to spinning then u should get a shimano baitrunner. They are very good reels and u can fish just about any technique with them. For a rod, if you are going to use a bass type rod, a med/hvy or hvy action would be a good choice. A rod from 7 to 8 feet length would serve your purpose. I prefer inshore rods myself. They are designed to fish many techniques that may be similar to catfishing techniques. They are light and sensitive enough, yet can handle heavier weights and fish.
  12. My question to the original post is how often are you using this braid and what pound test? Also where you store your rods and reels? All these factors should make a big difference.
  13. That's a largemouth. Spotted bass of that size is usually much more slim. Plus spotted bass will have a rough patch on the tongue.
  14. From what I've seen, they can get about double that size and trout fisherman regularly catch them on flies. They do make great bait for bass and catfish though.
  15. I've had both reels. Both are great reels. The Lews is a little smoother out of the box. The Chronarch, once broken in is very smooth also. To me, the Lews palms better because of the SLP design. The decision is up to you.
  16. Thats an adult golden shiner. I use to catch them all the time in the pond behind my parent's house when I was younger. Usually caught them on live worms while fishing for bluegills and red ears. They usually travel in schools so if you caught one, you would end up catching several more. Most times, golden shiners get introduced into new waters after people fish and have "minnows" left over. They end up pouring the leftover bait into the water.
  17. There are several charters that leave out of Murrells inlet. Just look them up when u get there. I'm sure u will get on some fish.
  18. I have tried all kinds of different bearings in my reels. Bocas, ZPI, hedgehog, and some others. My conclusion: Stick with the stock bearings. Unless the bearings are bad or rough, then there's really no need to replace them. A good cleaning and light weight oil can make a world of difference. I really can't tell a difference between my reels with aftermarket bearings and the stock ones. Both feel about the same.
  19. Don't forget about the 12 Aldebaran BFS and 15 aldebaran BFS limited. Both have a flatter palm side which is easier for small hands to grasp. Not to mention, both are very nice reels.
  20. I only have the 50 size in my regular Calcuttas. I usually only put mono on them since i use them for slower reaction style lures. I use big game and p-line most of the time on them. Anywhere from 8 to 15 pounds.
  21. Many shimano parts are interchangeable. I have a ct 50gt that had a bad AR bearing. During cold weather it would slip bad, playing out several feet of line. I had an old broken E5 laying around and guess what the AR bearings are the same size. I swapped the AR bearings out and haven't had a problem since then. Also, its not uncommon for some shimano reels to have a little back play in the spool. Some do seem a little worst than others though.
  22. Korea is not JDM. JDM is from japan
  23. Yep. That's a mudpuppy. A adult one at that. Hellbenders don't have the external gills. Also hellbenders normally live in cold water streams and rivers. Waterdogs are the common name for the larval stage of the Tiger salamander. A totally different species on its own. They normally max out around 6 to 7 inches long. In the larvae stage they look a lot like a mudpuppy.
  24. I have fished it a few times before. There are some nice quality bass in that lake. Many five to seven pounders.
  25. I have noticed on some reels (usually smaller reels) that the swept handle will get in the way when i hold the reel to make a cast. Then i have to adjust the handle before i can make a cast.
