  1. Yeah, I was really glad when Bactine came along…
  2. I haven’t waded much in streams or small rivers, but waded the st Johns many times. As long as you dont put fish on a stringer , you’ll be ok. I went alone a lot , Which I wouldn’t do now… More people drown here surf fishing. I nearly did when I was a teen. The fish weren’t biting , so I waded out to neck deep water to cast. Got swept off my feet by a sudden undertow, and suddenly was fighting for my life. I had never heard of relaxing and going with it until you were out of it. I swam against it , with one hand still clutching my rod. I did go somewhat sideways, which got me to the edge of it and I escaped. I went and sat on the beach for awhile and pondered how close it was… One guy nearly drowned when he got stuck in a coastal mud flat and the tide came in . He just had his nose out of the water when someone saw him and rescued him at the last minute…
  3. I fished what looks like that exact worm one day for LM. Didnt catch any but The action on that worm and visibility is ridiculous. Im not convinced I wont catch fish on it when I try again. ( I know it’s a sm thread- this is my weak attempt to be relevant on here ?)
  4. Right. I know who they are and have spoken to them once or twice on the road but they weren’t very friendly. I am going with the police or animal control options if it continues. Had a quiet night last night for a change. Maybe the dog has laryngitis from the consistent barking.
  5. Strangely enough, the dog isn’t barking tonite for the first time in weeks. Maybe someone got fed up enough…?
  6. Same here. I tend to have a temper so I avoid confrontation. When I did it the old way it rarely worked for me or the other party involved. But I also hate involving the police who have a lot more important things to do…Maybe when I get fed up enough. I’ll check into the suggestions . Thanks.
  7. All the dogs are on their own property though. They aren’t roaming free or I would have done something. I like dogs, just get tired of them incessantly barking. I dont blame the dogs, just the selfish owners… I didn’t even bring that that up. Ive got more dogs around the lake than ever before. Sometimes I can slip by and they dont hear me. But they usually do.
  8. One of my nieghbors shot another nieghbors dog 6 times a few years ago. The dog had swum over and got up in his yard. When he tried to make the dog leave , the dog nipped him in the chin. So he went in, got his 22 , and opened fire. The dog lived somehow, only to die of cancer a year later. The dog owners insurance co. paid the shooter 65,000 because he was fixing to sue. Only in America… It could have gotten much uglier. The dog owner is a big hunter from Alabama, and the shooter is a retired marine and New York city police officer. I am still suprised the dog owner let it go. He eventually moved directly because he wanted to keep his dogs and didnt want them being shot or him being sued. The new nieghbors there are the same ones that always let their dogs out when I go out… ?
  9. Do you mean one lake or Florida waters in general? I am a one-dimensional fisherman and just fair at that , and caught maybe 200 bass this year. ( It has been an off year) Florida has some of the best bass fishing in the world.
  10. At the risk of sounding like a whiner, Ive got an annoying problem. I need to vent a little. As many of you know, I live on a small lake. Just recently someone down the lake got a dog . It’s probably 400 feet away . The dog apparently is put out at night because the dog barks starting at nightfall , and continues on throughout the night. He only stops to catch his breath for a few seconds once in awhile , then continues .The first time I heard him I thought he was in my backyard! Sound really carries on the water! I cant understand how someone wouldn’t care about their dog or nieghbors to this extent. Also , nearly every time I go out back to cast a little, my neighbor across the canal lets his 3 dogs out and they run toward me barking as if they’ve never seen me before.( This is the 5th year of that now.) It’s like they are sitting there watching for me to come out so they can let the dogs out to annoy me. Im not a police caller over every little thing , and really dont want to get into with the nieghbors either. All I want is some peace and quiet!? Thank you for allowing me to vent…
  11. Now it looks we’re going to have to play a better and better LSU team. We should have beat them the last 2 years while we had a better chance.
  12. Tennessee was the best team we beat this year.
  13. Well, we got Billy Napier. The Ragin’ Cajuns loved him, so we’ll see. Geaux Gators! At least we beat FSU , so the season wasnt a total bust lol.
  14. What loot? I went fishing ! My goal is to stay as far as possible from stores on black friday, and especially dentists ! At least insurance takes some of the “bite” out of the dentist bill. Maybe there ought to be tackle insurance. At least I might be able to get some of the cost of it covered, lol !
  15. Shiners are like Filet mignon to a bass. We always launched at Kenwood landing on the north shore. It’s more central on the lake too.
  16. A Light batter mix is delicious . How else could I fry them without them burning up??
  17. Another thing we did was drive around with a Q beam spotlighting stuff, including humans. Usually it would scare the crap out of people, ( Im not proud of this). One friend had bought a horn that played animal sounds ( and Dixie of course). We would pull up behind a overweight person, and he would play the cow horn…. Mooooooo!! Sometimes he would play the panther scream and that would always get quite a reaction! It’s really miraculous we didnt get shot for those kind of things we did, especially where we lived. At least we didnt go around shooting cats with a bb gun like some other friends did. No sense in trying to justify stupid though…
  18. We didnt do that… We made up for it with things like the post below…
  19. My mom was like that to some degree, growing up in Rural NC. She knew how to do most anything food - wise the old way. After her and dad moved here and he had a good job with the railroad, she quit a lot of the old ways and would just go buy it at the store. Except fish. That stayed the same .
  20. my fish / game freezer is down to about 1/4 full. Trying to eat it all up because it’s getting old. The older stuff gets under the newer , even though I try to flip it once a year. I have never had a problem with catching fish to eat around here. If that wasn’t enough, a customer gave me a big bag of rainbow trout he had caught somewhere in the mountains. He said they caught so many it was coming out his ears and he was sick of eating it. Im sure that wont ever be a problem for me !
  21. Yeah, I dont understand it either. That’s never been a problem until I got the lightning rod. It also doesn’t have a good feel with the reel. ( Shimano Nasci 3500) It feels unbalanced .
  22. Nice rod, but it’s about 150.00 out of my price range, lol. It’s over 20 years old , so all the specs are worn off.
  23. I would never advocate hanging fish on a stringer off a boat or your belt, after seeing a alligator snapping turtle bite a big bream in half . It was on a stringer on a friends belt. That’s the closest I’ve ever seen to someone walking on water! And the turtle was coming for seconds, lol. At least dont do it down south! I wouldn’t do it in saltwater either ( sharks, crabs, bluefish)
  24. Live well or ice chest. I clean em’ later and they’re fine…
