  1. I usually retie after breaking off a $25 Megabass Vision
  2. Great reel. If one wants to save $20, the Bass Pro Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 and Lew's Tour MB have exact same specs. One is white the other is black.
  3. On two recent fishing trips I outfished my buddy's Rip-stop with a Megabass vision 110. The next trip the Rip-stop outfished the Vision 110.
  4. Ask ten anglers a rod or technique question and you get ten different answers. What works for me may not work for you. I feel that one should ask what do you like/dislike about your rod and how do you fish it. A rod I have and really like is the St Croix Mojo 7'1" medium fast (plastics) rod. I just like 7' jerkbait rod over a shorter one and I want a fast tip action to work the jerkbait. I have thrown jerkbaits on the ABU Garcia Winch medium/moderate rod, but it's a little more limber than I like.
  5. Amen brother. With six Saturdays and one Sunday a week and 365 vacation days a year there are plenty of good days to fish. About the only good thing being old.
  6. Don't know about MM Pro, but have a buddy with a medium moderate Ghost cranking rod. It is moderate, pretty close to an ABU Winch 7' medium. I would imagine the MM Pro is close to same.
  7. 90 is only size I use.
  8. I use a flurocarbon leader and 20lb braid. Usually I am using 8lb fluro leader and I want the braid diameter to be close to the leader diameter. 20lb PowerPro is 8lb mono/fluro diameter. much easier to tie similar size lines.
  9. 12' boat, 55 ft-lb trolling motor, bow mounted. Yes this is normal. A 55 lb motor can easily handle a 17' aluminum bass boat. Also if the motor shaft is not in the center of the motor (if you have a 55 lb Minn Kota it's not) the side to side movement of the motor under high power is hard to control.
  10. Just make one out of plywood, seal with polyester resin and carpet.
  11. My late father and his buddies use to camp on a lake 6 to 8 months a year, leaving their boats in the water. Everyone of their lower units pitted over the years. that Skeeter is too nice of a boat to leave in the water unless it was on a lift. However it's your boat, so do as you wish.
  12. I really like the Phenix M1 7'2" Heavy extra fast.
  13. With affordable and new fisherman the key words I would buy an Academy Sports H2O Ethos 7' MH rod $59.99 and an Academy Sports H2O Mettle reel $59.99. Yes you can get a better rod and reel but not for under $120. IMO it is just as good of a rig as my $100 reels and rods.
  14. H2O Ethos 7' Heavy fast. Not as good as my Phenix, but not far behind. IMO best rod for the money on the planet.
  15. $100 Rods Veritas 2.0 Winch are great cranking rods. Veritas 2.0 are too stiff for me.* St Croix Mojo pretty good rods at a hair over $100.* Really good $100 rod is the *** *** Black. I have the old split handle one. New are solid cork handle, but still really light.* 7'6" Berkley Shock is a good low cost Alabama Rig rod* For the money it's hard to beat the Academy H2O Ethos (Especially when on Rod Riot sale)* Personally don't care for the stainless guide inserts on the Duckett Ghosts, but that's me. Rod feels great in hand. Just held today a $100 Lew's. Really light and balanced. Impressive Can't comment on the Dobyn"s fury or Powell Inferno. Wish I could. * Rods I own and fish with.
  16. I have Phoenix, *** ***, Garcia Veritas, St Croix Mojo rods and without a doubt in my mind the best rod under $75 are the Academy Sports H2O Ethos rods. Berkley Shock and Lightning rods (I have both) are not even close to the Ethos.
  17. Braid and leader. I do have one spin rig loaded with 8lb P-Line Floroclear. Throws great. Never liked straight floro and spinning.
  18. This. I have a 1988 Questar with 6'8" rod box. I drilled 3 1 1/2" holes in the end of the rod box. Rod sleeves and my 7'-7"6" rods slide easily into the rod box. Not sure about the Ranger, but my Questar did not leak any water into the rod box.
  19. Chrysler outboards owned Bayliner boats, which Mercury bought for the boats and the motors came along with the deal. Mercury replaced the Chrysler lower units with their own which are thru prop exhaust and electronic ignitions, Chryslers were not and rebadged the engines as Force. They were a lower price alternative. The motors weren't bad and I had several friends. As a matter of fact the first outboard I bought was a new 1973 20HP Chrysler and was a great motor. My dad had a 1974 45HP Chrysler on a stick steer 14' GM aluminum and he fished over 200 days a year and skied my sons for 14 years and never even changed the water pump. I owned a 105HP on a '77 Ranger 175 and was a good motor. My dad's best buddy and camping partner had a 150HP 5 cylinder force and fished over 200 days a year. The people I know who knock Chrysler/Force never owned one.
