  1. like a complete idiot i left 4 of my best rigs out on my porch after my last outing and then we had a huge (for NC) snow storm and my rods and reels got completely covered in ice and snow. they have since thawed but i'm wondering if there is any damage to the rods or reels from this?? is there anything i need to do before using them again? please help. thanks, Josh
  2. I own a johnny morris signature series spinning rod and i really like it. I own a glx, st. croix's at every level from premier to elite, carrot stix and a cumara so i have tried lots of different rods. the signature series does give you great performance for the price. I would consider it a fantastic choice. the sensitivity is really good and it is very light. in my opinion you wouldn't be disappointed with a johnny morris rod. good luck!
  3. in my opinion it's not worth it. I tried lots of different rods (st. croix premier, avid, legend tourney, legend elite, shimano crucial and a couple others) before finally biting the bullet and buying a glx bsr803. quite simply - it's just not head and shoulders above the other rods out there at the top end. i'm not even sure it's above them at all. definitely a great rod but as far as i'm concerned not worth the extra money. if you really want one, i'll sell you mine.
  4. my local dick's sporting goods has the pflueger supreme spinning reel on clearance for $69.99. is this a great deal? am i missing something?
  5. i'm use almost the same rod as previously mentioned except mine's the spinning version. st. croix avid as66mf. it performs great on any working bait. i also use my spinnerbait rod for throwing buzzbaits.
  6. I'd be interested in hearing more about that. :-? me too - you have a bad history or something?
  7. i didn't get but - i gave my buddy a 6'8" Cumara MF with a stradic 2500fh. we're going out today at 2 so he can try it out!!
  8. How about the Cumara? they are built for bottom bouncing. you can get them for around 130 plus shipping on ebay.
  9. threads like this one prove the old sayin "different strokes for different folks". i started buying higher end gear becuase of this forum and i chose the shimano route originally so my first really nice spinning reel was a stradic 2500fh. after i had a couple of those i just had to try a pflueger supreme 8035 becuase some of the folks here kept preaching that they preferred them over the shimanos. well - compared to my stradics i thought the supreme sucked!!! i really loved the way it looked but it just didn't fish great. that is completely just my opinion - i know that the reel doesn't actually suck but i just thought the stradics were sooo much better. smoother and casts better. i actually gave it to my brother in law/fishing partner. Anyway - thanks for letting me share.
  10. i'm interested to see the answer to this question also. I need to clean and lube all of my spinning reels too.
  11. WOW!! some sweet setups here!
  12. this forum made me go from having 2 cheap combos to this... Casting: Revo STX St. Croix Legend Elite 7' MF Texas Rig Revo STX St. Croix Legend Tourney 6'6" MF several uses Pflueger Summit St. Croix Legend Tourney 6'6" MHF Jig & Pig Shimano Curado 100D St. Croix Avid 6'6" MHF Cranks Pflueger President St. Croix Premier 7' MF Spinnerbaits Spinning: Shimano Stradic 2500FI GLoomis BSR803 GLX Senkos Shimano Stradic 2500FH Shimano Cumara 6'8" MF Senkos Shimano Stradic 2500FH St. Croix Avid 6'6" MHF Shakey Head Shimano Stradic 2500FH St. Croix Avid 6'6" MF Topwater Abu Garcia Cardinal 104 Johnny Morris Sig Series 6'8" MHF anything else Thanks Bass Resource!!! :) :'(
  13. I just got a new cumara spinning rod for senkos and i need some reel suggestions. i currently have 4 stradics on my other spinning outfits (3 2500fh's and 1 2500fi) they are on loomis bsr 803, 2 st. croix avids and a johnny morris signature series rod. i'm thinking about taking one of the fh stradics and putting it on the cumara so that would leave me with the johnny morris rod needing a reel. thoughts??
  14. i think you are going to LOVE the avid!! i have a few and they were also my first "high end" rod. i've since bought a couple legend tourney's, one legend elite and a g loomis glx. after fishing all of them, in my opinion the avid is the absolue best bang for your buck rod out there. once you start spending more to get to those other rods you are spending ALOT more money for a very little bit better rod. enjoy it!!
  15. I just picked up this exact same rod for $79!!! Haven't fished it yet but am looking forward to it.
  16. I'm heading to dallas on saturday the 27th and have all day saturday to go fishing weather permitting - my questions are: 1. Where is a good lake to fish close by? 2. Does anyone know of a good guide service locally? 3. Are there any bass boat rentals at any marinas? Thanks in advance - I can't wait!!
  17. you left out the st. croix avid - in my opinion the best value out there
  18. That's exactly how I feel. Well said!
  19. Well - I've been reading about these amazing G Loomis GLX's for so long now that I finally broke down and bought one. A BSR803 GLX for my soft plastics. I paried it up with a stradic 2500 fh and headed out last night. A little background for you on my other rods so you'll know what i'm comparing to...i have 2 avid spinning rods one in medium fast and 1 in mh fast. i also own one a carrot stix spinning rod, 1 st. croix elite casting and 2 st. croix tournament casting rods. (among many others that aren't worth listing) from what i've read (and i've read everything I could find) the glx's were supposed to be "on another level" when it came to sensitivity so I had very high expectations. The rod didn't knock my socks off when i got it out on the water. now don't get me wrong - it is superbly built, super light, feels great in my hand and handled all the fish i managed to trick into biting (including a 3 1/2 pounder) but TO ME it wasn't sooo much better than even the avids when it came to sensitivity. I don't want to get anyone stirred up on here cause i know we have some very loyal and serious fans, but i just wanted to post my impressions of the vaunted GLX. Now the real questions: am i happy with my purchase - absolutely will i keep the rod? - definitely Would i buy more GLX's - Nope - unless i got them at an unbelieveable deal ($200 or less) Josh
  20. Yeah, it was a poor attempt at sarcasm. I re-read it and said "this doesn't make sense." Here I'll try this, Yo-zuri is really great line. I caught a 30lb Flathead with 10lb test. I was really surprised that it only had some nicks in it and was able to land the large fish. I recommend yo-zuri line for a lot of applications and, based on this experience I can say that yo-zuri will probably exceed your expectations as well. here's the real sarcasm ;D
  21. I bought the Stradic 2500 FI. Anybody have one? how do you like em?
  22. Just got a loomis spinning rod that i plan to use for plastics. I'm thinking about: Stradic Symetre Pflueger Supreme Daiwa Sol What would be your choice?
  23. i prefer a medium power for my plastics and i don't really fish heavy cover - i understand that loomis has a lighter tip than other manufacturers...what does everyone think of the 2 power loomis instead of the 3 power?
