Electric baby bass boat *(Pics added)*
well it sounds like you got a great idea, sense you have the ability to work with the materials you need and seem to know a good amount about it. it sounds like you will be able to build an awsome little boat. my only sujestion would be to make it WIDE. and as stable as possible. so you have a comfortable fishing rig without worries of falling out and flipping it lol. id bet it would fly with a nice motor if you could make somethin like what your saying. i know my 12' runs about the same on my 30lb as my buddys tracker does with his 80lb so my boat with an 80lb would haul ***. i would say somethin with a pointy/sleak front so you dont push thru the water like a john boat does if its not plaining. that would probably make it move a bit better. anyway im gonna follow and see what others say but good luck if you try it maybe you can build me one while your at it lol

so your talkin about completely designing a hull and decks to be made, not turn a previous boat into a bass boat. im thinking no matter what you use to make a bass style boat its goin to be heavy. if you have decks and the luxurys of a bass boat on it. i mean those johns decked out are heavy but compare that to a bass boat they are even heavier. now fiberglass bass boats are even heavier than aluminums so a small fiber boat would probably wind up being heavier than a john decked. i think its just somethin thats gonna have to be delt with if you want decks on a boat. i mean i guess it could be done with really cheapy light material but how would you get it made thats the problem i would guess. if your gonna have a decked boat just get a high lb motor to push or pull it

Decking a jon boat, etc...
i have thought very into making a bass boat from ajoh boat my uncle did it and its really nice. just dont go cheap use the right stuff and take your time. heres some links to some good pictures and a how to if u wanted. ive sense given it up and chosen to go with a bass tracker will cost me just a little more if any for an older one and then ill have a steering wheel and more stability. http://www.myjonboat.com http://www.bassjons.com/mycustompage0025.htm http://userpages.sofnet.com/robertg/boat.htm

sounds like a good idea, theres a few websites that have "johnboat" conversions on there. my uncle converted his 15' john into a bass machine. the only probem with the 10' and 12' johns for decks is they are for the most part extremely thin beamed. i have a 12' and just sitting on the benches is unstable. now if you could get one that was like 50+ inches wide then youd be ok probably, the 14' ones usually come wide or narrow if you can get a wide one then youd be good thats what i was gonna do untill i decided to just buy a bass boat.

Minn Kota vs. MotorGuide
ive always like minn kota more, seems like better build motors to me. i have a minn kota 30lb transom thats works great and a VERY old mag "by minn kota" foot motor and it still is workin and this thing is probably like 25 years old if not more. it sure isnt pretty tho lol. ive used a 40lb motor guide on my buddys tracker, very cheap feeling, ive also had a diehard transom mount thats broke. minn kots seems like the best in my eyes abd many others i think also. i want a 50lb foot minn kota the kind with that monster foot pedal i played with one at sports authority and its so smooth and the big pedal fits good under my size 13 foot

need some tips or a new stradegy for a small lake?
i read through those links. i didnt see to much info in there so im not sure what you were getting at but anyway. heres my usual arsenal: 7" motor oil power worm chartruse spinnerbait white tail inline spinner torpedo jitterbug watermelon fat ika (so far the biggest and best number producer for me there) as far as rocks i havent seen much for rocks in the place, the pads/weeds edge is about 10-13ft and then it drops to about 22ft from there on out im not sure where u got fish sitting at the bottom, i certainly dont fish in the middle at the bottom i usually work the drops and the weed edge.

need some tips or a new stradegy for a small lake?
ok i have a small lake is about 35acres. its a nice small unpressured lake up in North Jersey. its located right smack i the middle of all the larger northern good bass fish lakes. i know theres baitfish to suport the bass sometimes early morning they school and scatter all over the place . the place is 30ft deepest. i always get bass when im there but i havent yet pulled anything oer 2lbs out. my uncle a better fisherman than me has told me about 4 and 5lbers they have pulled from there sometimes a bunch in one night when the bite was on. i dont understand what im doin wrong. ive gone over the topo maps and i know where the drops are. the lake is round and is completely surounded by lilly pads for about 20 feet from shore. about 2/3 of the lake is around 23-30ft deep and 1/3 is about 12-16ft. all of my fish are pretty much up in the weeds, ive had 1 hit from a pickeral on the drop. ive used topwater, worms, ikas and spinnerbaits. all have produced but like i said nuttin over 2lbs. so what can i do. i dont know of any structure or cover out in the deep just seems pretty flat. just the drops and the pads and weeds.

What am I doing wrong?
i was haveing some issues with landing fish with regualar hooks, get some gamakatzus, seriously the last time i went fishing, 5 bass with 5 great hooksets, those hooks are really amazing and REALLY sharp. i think thats all i will ever use. another thing your probably doin sense your new to it which i also did was feel a bite and panic and set the hook out of anxiousnes. what i do now is if i feel a tap or see my line moveing i move my rod down like most said to give the fish slack so he doesnt feel me tugging against him and reel up the slack slow and then wale on him i almost fell out of my boat last time out lol. i think alot say reel up fast and set it quick but ive found i do better taking my time and so far every fish that hit like that has beeen a perfect hookset and landed fish.

alp, thats certainly a nice setup with your deck and all. ive thought of goin that route like i said but i just dont like that style looking boat, no offense ofcourse yours is REALLY nicely done just not my style, i love the fibers and the aluminum seems to be the best bet to getting the closest to what i want and workin best for our NJ conditions. thanks alot for posting the pics much appreciated. when im ready to buy hopefully someone will buy my car soon i will post up the boats im lookin at for advice and hopefully i find somehtin nice
