  2. Thanks for helping out Ernie!
  3. I too have had a lot of trouble fishing jerkbaits. I honestly think that I just don't have the patience to fish them. I can't make myself stand there and let them sit. I just put a bunch of jerkbaits on sale in the flea market for anyone that is interested in them. I hope someone will fish them more than I have.
  4. The face looks a little like him but Ed is much bigger.
  5. Aaron, that first spot he mentioned is that bridge we could see in the distance when we went fishing the first time. You should be able to run your boat back there. There is a channel the whole way back there with buoys marking it that is plenty deep enough for your boat.

I will also take the shots. I too am surprised at the response. We could possibly lose some great members this winter. Kelley from what? The flu?!?! seriously?
  7. congratulations
  8. Here's a link to check out. http://www.virginiagameandfish.com/fishing/stripers-hybrids-fishing/va_aa095302a/ I know kiko does a lot of striper fishing. I'll send him an email to make sure he sees this thread.
  9. Yeah, it looked pretty funny. I'll probably try to see it.

That explains why he is always inviting me to Massachusetts How dare you confuse me with a Masshole?! Plus he is too short for my liking and can't hold is alcohol.... I think he means because Mass. allows gay marriage?

why? aren't they only a serious threat to people with weak immune systems (old people, babies, etc...)
  12. The average size fish question is tough to answer. There aren't a TON of little fish like you would catch in the Rapp closer to River Rd. but the fish are bigger on average. The fish in the pics I posted at the beginning of the thread are my biggest from this area. They range from 16-19". I have seen but been unable to catch a few 2.5-3lb fish and one that I think would have gone 4lbs. The water depth ranges from ankle deep to up to your chest at the deepest. On my trips, I can wade the whole trip without going deeper than my belly button. The deep spots are easy to wade around in shallower water. There are smallmouth, the occasional largemouth, green sunfish, bluegill, some sort of shad/chub that I can't identify but show up in schools by the dozen, catfish, some GIANT carp, and I even caught a small striper once but I wouldn't count on it happening again. I have only been down there a few times this year and haven't done particularly well (although one of three times I was fly fishing for the first time) but I have seen the fish and I know they are there. If it's a tough day then we can head down the road to River Rd. to try our luck there.
  13. We won't be on the Rapp. BTW, guys, please don't post about this spot. You can share it with other members via PM but if you post it in threads other random people can find it through Google without even registering here. BTW, my college roommate is coming up from Ashland to fish with us. me NewAngler Slip Gun Potomac Angler hokifisherman? jam1082 cmatthews6485 NewAngler's friend? Taylor (my college roommate) dang, this is going to be a big trip!
  14. I don't know how you feel about house branded reels, but I was using a Bass Pro Shop Pro Qualifier reel the other day and I was very impressed. It is relatively inexpensive (especially when it goes on sale) and it will cast, flip, and pitch 3/4oz great. It also comes in 7.1:1 ratio. That's my suggestion for a decent, budget minded flipping reel.
  15. if you are willing to spend that much money because you want to have some really, really nice stuff, then go with the Sol and the GLX. If your intention is to get good gear while saving a bit of money, grab a Daiwa Tierra or Shimano Stradic and go with the Legend Tournament or Shimano Cumara.
  16. what kind of weights will you be flipping?

    nah. It's a racket.
  20. How much is it going to cost to replace them with SiC guides as opposed to getting the rod fixed/replaced by St Croix?

  25. For everyone: Rod/Reels: Bring one rod. A medium to medium heavy action rod would be best. Whatever you like to fish your soft plastics on. I will be bringing a spinning rod but whatever you have and like will be fine. Baits: Bring a pocketful of finesse worms, flukes, tubes, and senkos. Bring some wacky rig hooks, some worm hooks, and some shakey head jigs, and regular jigs if you have them. If you have them, bring a couple of topwaters like poppers or walk the dog baits. I use a vest to carry my stuff so I will have plenty of extra goodies if you can't carry everything. An old backpack that you don't mind getting wet will work perfectly. Clothes: The water is still pretty warm so you will be fine with just an old pair of sneakers, swim trunks, and a t-shirt. You might want to bring a change of socks and shoes and clothes for the ride home. For the guys riding with me, try to bring an extra towel to dry off with or sit on. I'll bring some extras just in case. I will also bring a waterproof camera and some pliers.
