Broke my G.Loomis GLX
The object is to not break the tip and hopefully get your lure back. This method positively works and does so with any kind line, braid is better because of the non stretch factor, but you will have success with mono. It makes no difference what you are hung on, you have a real good chance of success, if one doesn't it's only because they haven't practiced it. Charter boats captains always pull the line not the rod, works the same from shore. I'm talking about in situations when the lure is stuck without a chance of getting it back ie: a heavy jig hook stuck into a piece of wood. Your jiggling thing is fine and all, but like the line plucking technique, it doesn't work all the time so sometimes the bait has to be sacrificed in order to save the rod and as much line as possible.

**UPDATE** VA - smallmouth wade
Potomac Angler, if you are in Mount Vernon I can pick you up on the way. Just PM me your address or the address of wherever you want to meet. One seat left. PS. it's best to just bring one rod. You'll regret it if you have to carry two rods the whole time.

Top Heavy Rods Need Heavier Reel???
Wayne, you are the master of modifications. I have a weight balancing set for my BPS Extreme rod but I didn't know if anyone made any aftermarket products for anything other than the BPS brands.

Broke my G.Loomis GLX
true. I was about 4inches from catching a 3/8oz jig with my nut sack one time. Just hold the rod to the side or even stand sideways and sidestep, just as long as you keep the rod straight by pointing it at the snag.

20# Power Pro
Lily pad stems have breaking strengths of approximately 18lbs. If the fish wrapped you around just a couple stems then the strength of the vegetation was already stronger than your line. That's why most guys fish much heavier braid around pads.

**UPDATE** VA - smallmouth wade
I was thinking something like 2pm-dark? If anyone from up around me needs a ride, I have three seats. (David, you need a ride?) I'll be leaving a little before 1pm.

How much do you think this fish weighed? No scale
it's always hard to tell but I'm thinking around 3.5

yum money hound?
It's designed to be a weedless walk-the-dog style bait like a spook. (That is what it is designed to be, but I haven't used them so I don't know what the actual action is). I've been looking for something like this to walk over matted vegetation.

**UPDATE** VA - smallmouth wade
oh, and there will probably be a soggy trip to Gander Mountain involved, as per my tradition.

**UPDATE** VA - smallmouth wade
I'm planning a wade trip for smallmouth on this Saturday 9/26 in the afternoon/evening near Fredericksburg, VA. The water is still warm enough for swim trunks and old sneakers. Who's down? A word of caution - this wade is easy as far as the terrain (sandy bottom, minimal rocks, no really deep spots) but it does get tiring because of the distance.

Went to sunday morning service at Greentop.
true, but all of those stores are a minimum of 45min-1hr. I want a store that is within 20mins and in a spot where I don't have to plan around traffic (if that is possible at all with all the crazy construction going on right now)

Top Heavy Rods Need Heavier Reel???
So you are adding balance weights to all of your rods? I prefer my balance points to be an inch or two in front of the reel seat. I can usually achieve that without weights. . Wayne, I understand that fingers should feel the vibration before the waves travel to the back of the rod tip but I think the waves travel back and forth through the rod too fast for our fingers to tell the difference between the vibrations on the way from the front to the back or the back to the front. On a hollow piece of graphite like a fishing rod I don't see how it's possible to add anything to any place on the rod without dampening the sensitivity somehow. At least that's how I think of it, like a high speed echo that goes back and forth throughout the rod. Does that even make sense? yes i balance all my rods.the weightless tip makes it easier to feel things because you are not fighting the rod weight. what do you use for balancing them?

2 cast / 4 fish
when I read the title of this thread I thought it said 2 fish, 4 casts and I thought, "ok that's pretty good." But 4 fish on 2 casts is nuts!

Gander in F'Burg. not too far from you. I know, I've been there quite a few times but with traffic, that can take like 2 hours. There's also one in Winchester which is about the same distance. I wish there was a place closer to the beltway.
