Straight shank flipping hooks
What's a good brand of flipping hooks? im a Gamakatsu fan but have read that the bait keeper on the gammys are awful and slip down. my second favorite hook brand is VMC but I've heard several people say that the bait keeper on them is a little big... so I'm not trying to tear my bait up before I even get it in he water. Dont really have much experience with any other hook brands.... my trebles are either gammys or Mustad and my shakey heads are owner but as far as everything else ( drop shot, wacky, offset worm, and ewg hooks) they are all either Gamakatsu or VMC

Lews tlm1h vs Shimano chronarch mgl
Bank fisherman are always trying cast farther away from the bank and Boat fisherman are always trying to get closer to the bank..... don't worry about distance find a spot and cast parallel to the bank. But to answer your question I purchased 2 Chronarch MGLs a few weeks ago and have put them three there paces and I have nothing bad to say about them possibly the best reel purchase I ever made. And dare I say quite possibly the best overall reel ever made. You get Metanium like performance($400 some reel) And "workhorse" reel durability for a great price. I do like lews also but it seems that the higher end lews reels just feel more fragile and plastic toy feeling to me I own 2 tournament pro g reels and I'm afraid to do anything with them sure they are lightweight but they feel more like toys. Shimano and Daiwa always feel more solid to meill take an extra ounce of weight on my reel if it makes it feel more solid

Looking for a Jig-Spinnerbait-Chatterbait rod
Dobyns does make a outstanding product and there customer service is second to none. I will second the part of calling or emailing Dobyns to get help with what rod will suit you. I emailed them several times to get my arsenal set up and they were very helpful and every email was either Richard or Gary himself. The best part was they were very considerate with my budget they weren't like a salesman looking at me like a dollar sign trying to sell me the ChampionXP or Champion extreme HP line. They helped me find all my rods in he fury line(although I did wind up upgrading my jig rod to the ChampionXP line)

Reel for Flipping/pitching/punching
Looking for a reel for flipping/pitching/ punching. Was thinking maybe one of the concept reels from 13 as they have that 20 some pound drag system and for punching I thought that would be good since it will be in some thick stuff. i don't know tho do you guys use specific reels for these purposes or does it not really matter?

Drop shot vs shakey head
When the bite gets tough which do you throw? Does it depend on situation? Do you consider these techniques interchangeable? Or does each have a time and place? Me personally I can't stand throwing a shakey head I just have 0 confidence in it I have never gotten a fish on a shakey head but if I tie on a drop shot and throw to the exact same spot I was throwing the shakey head I start catching fish

Is there a difference between all the different brands of tungsten weights
I'm going to be making the switch to tungsten worm/flipping weights after fishing with tungsten jigs I'm sold on the whole tungsten thing. is there a difference between all the different companies that make tungsten weights? I see some say 95% tungsten, 97% tungsten etc. are some brands better then others? I would like a brand that the finish on the weight can take a beating the lead weights I use now (bullet weights brand) after a few casts the finish is already chipping

I need to find a "RBA" group (reel buyers anonymous)
What I have most of is the furys and for the money they can't be beat. But my favorite is the ChampionXP I only have 1 champion xp but and it's my jig rod. I figured if I was gonna spend that type of money on a rod might as well spend it on the technique I like to fish the most

I need to find a "RBA" group (reel buyers anonymous)
For me it's Dobyns. They suit me and my style well

I need to find a "RBA" group (reel buyers anonymous)
I was like that with rods also when I was searching for "THE" rod that had sensitivity, light weight, the right action, but at a value price. But thankfully I found the best rod lineup that suits me so now I'm only blowing money on reels

I need to find a "RBA" group (reel buyers anonymous)
I feel the same way. Although the only Daiwa reels around me are the tatulas so I've yet to find a place to get my hands on any of the Zillions or steez reels.... which is probably a good thing for my wallet

I need to find a "RBA" group (reel buyers anonymous)
I just can't help myself every time I go to Cabelas or bass pro I head straight for the reels and get my hands on them. Every time I log onto tackle warehouse I head straight for the reels and look at them. I wind up spending money on reels instead of what I actually intended to buy. I can't be the only person out there like this. I can't be the only one who has more reels then rods to put them on. Whether it's you just loved the way it felt in hand, read awesome reviews, or just couldn't decide between one reel or another so you bought both. Is there anyone else that has a addiction to reels

River fishing for Bass
I was unaware he was fishing inland. I live in MD all I'm use to is tidal rivers going into the bay

River fishing for Bass
The last several tournaments I've fished have been on rivers. And it seems to not matter so much as the bait/lure your using if it's suited for river fish but more of when your fishing. The tides is what controls the fish ive caught fish on everything but topwater so far on the river. Chatterbait and drop shot have been my most productive tho

Having a new pond dug on our farm
It would be fed by a creek it's not just going to be a pond in the middle of a field. We had a pond on the farm a while ago for years that my great grandfather had built back in the 80s that was only 2-3 ft deep but the dam has since washed away. Then it gets into some legal disputes about how the pond lays between 2 properties and the dam is on one property and the owner of that property doesn't care to fix it up etc. long story short it will be less hassle to build another pond solely on our property fed by the same creek

Having a new pond dug on our farm
I'm not a fan of Christmas trees dnr puts them in one of our lakes here and with in a few years there nothing but a pile of sticks. I want something more permanent As a kids the winters were bad but the last 2-3 winters have been very mild except for like a month or month and a half. The last 2 winters it's was in the 60s on Christmas Actually the 2 lakes closest to me one is a max depth of 6 ft and the other is 3-4 they are managed by dnr and they have some good fishing so I don't think they die off at least not a lot

Having a new pond dug on our farm
My grandfather wants to have a new pond dug out on our farm. It's gonna be 1.5-2 acres and we found a place that will stock it, and I looked at videos about placing the pvc pipes down for structure and cover. But how should we plan this pond out? I told him maybe have it 5 ft deep with a section that was 3ft just so the fish had a shallower flat for spawning and to have a transition in depth instead of just having a hole that was all the same depth. what all goes into keeping the pond a healthy place for fish? Aerator? Fertilizer? Feeders? Just trying to get an idea of what all entails to grow some nice bass, bluegill, and catfish

Punching Skirt or no skirt?
A lot of the mats around me are starting to get thick. And I know that they are holding fish cause when they were thinner I would throw a frog over them and they would hammer almost every other cast. so I was looking to get some stuff for punching ( big weights, straight shank flipping hooks, etc.) but I keep seeing and reading about punch skirts and I'm confused I thought the purpose of punching was to keep as compact of profile as possible to slip through cover wouldn't a skirt just make it bulkier and snag up? also what Baits do you recommend for punching? I have sweet beavers and d bombs and brush hogs. Was think of picking up some strike king rage bugs or structure bugs whatever they call them now thanks for the help

Muddy water and lots of grass.
I agree with the no weight for dirty water. I was watching something one time and Edwin Evers said in clear water he wants his bait to fall fast so the fish don't get a real good look at it but in stained and dirty water he wants it to fall slow so the fish have a better chance of seeing it since in dirty water the visibility is so low

Dobyns Drop Shot Rod - Fury 662SF?
I think they added the drop shot technique cause of the length it seems most like to drop shot with longer rods. Also the longer rod with same power and action will be a little more limber then a shorter rod with same specs the shorter rod will seem stiffer (not much). Think about it this way if you take 2 sticks from a tree same thickness and all but one is 1ft long and the other is 3ft long the longer stick will have more and be easier to flex then the shorter one. Which is also why the 661sf is rated for drop shots also. also keep in mind that these are just suggested techniques... use what ever rod you feel comfortable with using some people like different things. Like jig fishing some like a real stiff rod like a veritas other like a little more flex

Chronarch MGL help
Thanks. Yea next month we have a tournament on the pocomoke so being that far south and close to the actual ocean I will probably switch the Chronarchs out with the curados

Chronarch MGL help
Is it just the spool that needs rinsing Also how far does the brackish water of the bay reach into the fresh water of the rivers? Or does it just depend on the body of water
-
Chronarch MGL help
So I had a tournament this weekend and we were fishing the Sassafras river in MD and I didn't realize at one point how close to the Chesapeake bay we were fishing. I have 2 questions: 1 how far does the salt water from a bay normally travel up into a river. 2 how will my Chronarch far with brackish waters if I did get to close to the Chesapeake

Looking For NEW Rod
I would say either Dobyns Fury 704 or St. croix Mojo 6'8" Jig n worm or 7'1" Jig/Baits. The Mojo line has a rod labeled for spinnerbaits but the it's max lure rating is 3/4 oz and me personally I try to stay away from a rods max lure rating just for peace of mind

Braid Color
That sounds an awful lot like Gerald Swindle when he did a video on his favorite fluorocarbon knot "if the fish didn't see the first 100ft that last 1/4 in you trying to trim off ain't gonna hurt" I believe the word your looking for is concealment. To the original poster @Quarry Man I use yellow w/ leader for line watching and green for moving and bottom contact. That fish don't care if it matches your reel cause they can't see your reel. And if your really wanting to impress your fellow fishermen worry about catching the biggest hawg in the lake not being the interior decorator of fishing equipment. And yes red will disappear first in the light spectrum but you have to get down to depths most of us never bass fish in to do so that's more for the cat fishing world where your looking for real deep channels where the big cats live but even then it's pointless cause cats are the least line shy fish out there probably.

Fury 703SF vs Mojo Bass
I own mojos and furys and Champions. The most of which I own is the furys for 2 reasons 1. It will be to much to have all champions ? 2. For the money you can't beat them. I only own 1 spinning rod out of all of my rods and it's a Dobyns Fury 703sf because it just flat out works for all light line/lure applications
