Dark Rainbow is my favorite all time slammer color. Don't fixate on color though. Pick something you have confidence in and fish it, that's about the best answer I can give.

Don O is about as OG in the swimbait scene as you're going to find. I also don't know that you'll find ANYONE with as extensive a swimbait collection as he has. If he doesn't have it, they didnt make it.

I held one a month or so ago and I gotta say the colors were impressive. Definitely a cool bait from what I saw.

I might pick one up to try. The finish doesn't seem durable from the few outings I've seen reported.

Also, I agree that the likelihood of catching that fish again is very slim. I GUARANTEE that the chance of catching it again is ZERO if you kil it. I'd rather have some odds than none.

I don't know that I'd release it for anything other than the personal satisfaction of doing so. I figure a Northern LMB that has grown to 10+lbs deserves to live out the rest of her days where she started. She was kind enough to let me take her pic, I'd feel bad killing it.

I'm not killing a state record fish if I can help it. I'll get it on a scale, take pics like I normally do and then release it. I'd rather keep my spot low key than simply have my name in a book. Those who know me and what I do will recognize and appreciate the fish, that's what would count to me.
