gear ratio ???
so many.... I actually have several others that I didn't list (such as dock skipping rod, plastics in tight quarters rod, etc.) and there are the several muskie rods (though I only use two different gear ratios on all my muskie rods). I know, I have an illness.

One brand for all applications?
I don't think you need one brand for everything. If you have extra income and want to break into technique specific rods, I would recommend you buy what feels good to you. I personally own a lot of G Loomis rods, because I really like how they feel and they seem to be the only company left that offers a full rear grip, which I prefer. The bottom line is buy what feels best to you.

Hmmm...I guess he would be an "Angry Guy"

"Brand Guy"

"Brand Guy"
I've been reading a lot of posts lately where people refer to others based on a brand (e.g., "Shimano Guys" etc.). I never thought of myself as a brand guy, but looking at my arsenal, I have to say I have slowly become a brand guy. I have tried a lot of reels from a ton of different manufactures and I am slowly becoming a "Daiwa Guy." IMO, I really like how Daiwa reels feel and perform. I learned early that I am a "G Loomis Guy" and "Cabelas XML Guy." Both these rods I really enjoy fishing, though admittedly, I haven't tried as many rod brands as I have reel brands. I was wondering what you would label yourself as. Please keep this as to what brand you have trended towards and why you like it and not why you think other peoples choices suck. Note to Mods: If this gets ugly for any reason, please remove.

Cabelas XML Rods
Here is a list of the XML Rods I own and use: C704-2 - I used for Small Swimbaits, Frogs, and Heavy Jigs C704-1 - I use for Carolina Rigs and Pitching in Heavy Cover C702-1 - I use for Tubes, Plastics, and Soft Jerkbaits C702-2 - I use for Weightless Worms and Plastics C703-2 - I use for Crankbaits and Rattle Traps C663X-2 - I use for Jerkbaits and Shallow Crankbaits C663X-2 - I use for Spinnerbaits and Topwater C562-1 - I use for Casting Lures in Tight Areas XCLS704-2A - I use for Shakyheads and Small Jerkbaits XCLS704-2A - I use for Dropshots XCLS705-2A - I use for Lighter Plastics in Heavy Cover XCLS904-2A - I use for Steelhead As you can see, I have a lot of these rods in 2-pieces. I mainly use these rods as my "travel" set (My G Loomis rods are my starting line-up), which is why I mostly have two piece rods. Though, I don't notice a big different in sensitivity between the one piece and the two piece. So, whatever is more convenient for you, I would get. As mentioned above by Jeff H, the only downside could be that they are a little bit tip heavy. I solved this problem with the balance kit (which I highly recommend). If you balance the rod properly, it would actually feel lighter to you even though you added a few ounces to balance it out. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with my XML's. PS Like all the others, I have never paid full price for one, but I have paid more than what they were on sale for recently and I still feel I got a great deal (those who bought them at $39.99 or less got an unbelievable deal)

Help choosing spinning rod and reel
I don't mean to be rude, but I think you will be surprised how small that reel is. I would suggest a 2500 size and if you really like smaller reels, then a 1000 size.

Help choosing spinning rod and reel
One reel that I own 6 of and became the only spinning reel I use is the Pflueger Supreme (I like the 8035 model, but the 8030 would work for your needs as well). I haved used the Pflueger President and Pflueger Trion, which are both excellent reels, but the Supreme really surpasses them both. The Supreme has a highr gear ratio, which I like when keeping up with a charging smallmouth, and is lighter in weight. Again, I am amazed how Pflueger produces such good spinning reels at such a low price.

daiwa icast
It looks ok, but it is no replacement for the Fuego or SOL. I am a big Daiwa fan and was hoping to get a little more from them this year.

PO'd I fell for Megabass...
All I know is if you want to get rid of them, I would be willing to take them off your hands (Smallmouth love those things).

PO'd I fell for Megabass...
Hmmm...I have several Megabass Vision 110's and have caught a lot of fish on them. One lure in particular has well has over 100 smallmouth on it and it is still going strong (though, it is a little beat up). I figure I paid $15 for it (off of eBay) and so far I am at 15 cents a fish. This is a more cost effective lure than a Senko.

Your Favorite Gear Stinks
I think a lot of people on here have a very valuable opinion, but I tend to pay attention to some more than others (for example, when "The Natural" speaks, I usually listen since he has owned it all)

Best Shaky Head Rod
Right now I use a G Loomis BSR852S GLX, which is great for shakyheads. I am looking at getting a G Loomis SHR822S GLX, which is supposed to be made for shakyheads.

Re: Road Warrior
RW does have his personal preferences, as we all do. I think he, along with the other moderators, have done a great job keeping this forum clean, informative, and mainly on task with what the OP wanted.

Carrot Stix are Orange...........snookums
What I don't understand is why so many people take these things personally? I am a big G Loomis fan, but if someone says something negative about G Loomis, I don't get upset. I might make a comment back, but it wouldn't be anything personal. I feel the only people who should take anything personal about what is being said about a brand is someone whose livelihood is based off of that brand (e.g., Carrot Stix Salesman, E21 Employee, etc.). Anyone else who uses the rod, because they like how it feels, shouldn't take anything said personally (nor should anyone get that passionate to harshly trash someone else for buying it). Ok, I am done my mini rant about this thread and several other threads that take on the same tone.

Boyd Duckett Dumps E21
Selling alot of products can't help you when you are replacing alot of already sold ones (though, it can help slow down the bleeding).

Who makes the best jerkbaits?

Icast previews
Last year was GLX crankin' rods, this year GLX frog rods...what a waste. I agree they need a new frog rod, but all of the time and money that went into these two new GLX lines could have went somewhere else. I'm confused G.Loomis. Don't forget the GLX Spinnerbait Rod they came out with last year. Now they need a GLX Swimbait rod to really complete the list. On a serious note, I wish they would come out with a GLX version of their 822S dropshot rod. That might be a little more valuable then a GLX frog rod.

Boyd Duckett Dumps E21
exactly. I can't remember the last time any sports figure walked away from an endorsement deal and made comments of the tone Boyd did here. Not exactly the kind of thing any future sponsor would want to hear and the kind of thing that could bring legal repercussions from E21. He could've walked away quietly, he chose to let folks know his reasons. I suspect his words were chosen wisely. I actually think the opposite would be true. Imagine if Boyd started using Lamiglas rods. People now think that Boyd is more about integrity, principle and quality, therefore people might think that Lamiglas must be good a good if Boyd is using it. I think this could work in Boyd's favor as well as in the favor of any potential sponsor (I am hoping G Loomis picks him up)

G Loomis IMX vs GLX
I agree with you. People say they like how they look, but I do not find split grips all that aesthetically appealing.

Frog Rod: Sensitivity needed
They only reason I see the need for a GLX Frog Rod is to replace that sorry attempt of a frog rod that G Loomis first designed.
