Hey reel experts out there a quick question. Last weekend i was ripping grass with Spro Aruku Shad 5/8oz lipless crankbait and a 7:1:1 gear ratio Basspro PQ reel for about 6 hours. Toward the end of the day I noticed the reel started acting funny once the bait was pulling hard getting close to the boat. Basically it makes a loud noise and it feels like if i Turn the reel handle once theres some tension its almost like it skips over the fact that theres tension and keeps reeling. Does anyone know what im talking about?" Almost like the drag is skipping or something. Its very hard to explain exactly what its doing but thats sort of an idea. Its like if I cant reel anymore because of the tension, the tension breaks and the handle turns anyway. Anyone know what this could be?

A lot of it just depends on the mood of the fish and the water temp, but for the most part chatterbaits are best on a straight retrieve and the erratic action and speed of the lure is what causes the strike. You can fish it like a jig but if your in a high pressure situation and the fish gets too good a look at it he aint gonna bite If its going by super fast he has only a split second to strike or not to strike and this in my opinion is where the bait really shines

Do you actually own a PQ? Or are you planning on getting one and already looking into a 3rd party drag option? I own 7 pro qualifiers and personally never had a problem with the drag. In fact, they are pretty smooth compared to other popular reels ive tried.

You really cant go wrong with white, even under murky conditions, the fish can still feel and see it. White is probably your best bet under heavy pressure situations also when everyone else is throwing black etc
